As much as 2D might be prettier and more admirable in an artistic sense, the problem is that 2D has always been and will always be limited to a visual medium. Look, but don't touch.

Someone who marries a 2D wife won't ever get to actually hold her, beyond the pale imitation of slapping her likeness on a body pillow.

So as art, 2D wins. You can't get that kind of attention to detail in a photograph. There's no absolute control over every aspect of the composition.

As something to lust after, 3D wins. If I lust after the cute girl who works at my local coffee shop, there's a chance I could one day actually do something more about it than masturbate furiously on my own to her likeness, which is something 2D will never be able to claim.
