The Japanese government has announced that by its calculations the Japanese anime industry suffered some 240 billion yen in “lost” sales due to Chinese piracy and counterfeiting. The Japanese government indicates it intends to press China to crack down.
The figure, announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, refers to products, such as DVDs or anime merchandising, subjected to physical piracy and counterfeiting in the PRC.
The ministry arrived at the figure with the aid of a Japanese think-tank who conducted surveys of Chinese buying habits, extrapolating from the results an estimated national figure.
Amongst their findings was that only 20% of Chinese anime fans refrained from buying merchandise they knew to be illegitimate.
The ministry’s intellectual property section expresses its intent to request action be taken, but given China’s record on respecting intellectual property rights, or any other kind of rights, few would hold out much hope of them doing anything.
Whilst the methodology used to arrive at the figure might be suspect, few could doubt that vast amounts of fake anime products originate in China, and that the Chinese government does little to prevent such activity. Many would also suspect it tacitly encourages such activity.
Indeed, with fake goods also being exported in huge quantities and with plagiarism also a major problem, the real figure may be substantially higher.

oh its china again o_o
Yes they are. And, after clicking the "a major problem" link, I just discovered that I own a bootleg Miku nendroid.
Indeed, China can fake everything, can rips-off anything, can copy all the things with fake price and fake quality.
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/01/11/fake-miku-vs-real-miku/
Now that's a good fake.
Surely if China can copy wholesale cars such as BMW, Honda and Toyota, then they can make some good figure copies...
Fakes are everywhere, specially in places where people wouldn't be able to afford the "real thing".
I've been a long fan of anime ever since I was a child, but there's no way I could afford an item imported from Japan when i was like, 8.
"hey mom, get me this 100$ figure I want"
She'd laugh at me and talk reason to me.
I should have known $15 was too good to be true.
I was saved by that post few months back when i want to buy that Miku. Thank you Sankaku.
Made in China...Haaah~
can't wait for the "エイプリルフール!"
china ftw
funny how every company complains that China pirates there stuff, and then keeps all their manufacturing there.
I got a fake Nagato Bunny Girl figure from EBay, I was skeptical but at the time I hadn't bought many anime figures, especially through such shady dealings as Chinese and Hong Kong EBay stores.
But, it was a valuable lesson and I haven't been fooled again. At least the figure looked okay too, I guess :)
Must suck (mentally) to know you have a bootleg miku....but ah well.
Yeah that figure is one of the worst ones for bootlegs, I got one too, but paid like $44.00 for it from what I thought was a good seller but it was an obvious fake, luckily they refunded my money. I guess the "L" figures from Death Note are mostly fakes too.
Guess we'll need to go Japan for the real goods
Maybe all those Toyota Prius cars which are experiencing "sudden run-away" in the U.S. are China fakes, too.
and i'm very sure none of you download fansubs.
Fuck China, it's about time Japan Took out the Gundams and took over the world.
It's like I can hear the QUARITY Saber's thoughts when I saw it. "Lol wut, wth am I?"
The face says it all.
The sad truth is that Vendors sale these products at Conventions to unsuspecting consumers at the same price.
let the buyer beware
FUCK YOU CHINA!
JUST FUCK YOU!
I just love it when you China-haters rage like that. You may laugh at the supposed "low quality" products, but i get a hard-on with the knowledge that China is overtaking Japan's GDP, and the sight of Toyota's president bowing and apologising for their deadly defects.
Also, not a China resident here. Just being a Malaysian Chinese who is proud of his cultural heritage and motherland.
Your country makes shit products. They also take away jobs by offering labor and products of dirt cheap. They're like the rest of the world's Mexicans.
So, tell me Malaysian Chinese, if there is a conflict between China and Malaysia, who are you going to fight for?
malaysia has no identity, its pretty much another territory of china
FUCK YOU AND YOUR FAKE VAGOO TOO, YOU DAMN TRAP!!! YOU MUST BE A CHINESE OR SOMETHING FOR FOOLING ME WITH FAKE GOODS LIKE THAT!!!
The problem is that I'd buy real products, except they're soo much more expensive due to shipping etc. A Rin nendoroid costs aroudn 250 rmb here but only 150 rmb in Japan because of Tax and shipping.
Also, how many of you download fansubs?
They aren't our sponsor. As I understand it their "Asia" versions are just legitimate but slightly lower priced Japanese versions.
You have a source for them shipping fake figures?
So...China steals stuff and people start saying the chinese are thieves.
Then I guess black people are murderes, white people are racists, koreans are idiots, japanese are horny racists, russians are all men, germans are jew haters and so on
u know, u got the horny racist Japs right, for some of them
chinese products is marketed to poor otakus
Oh no, not this China thing again! And poor Saber, she is a victim of a Chinese piracy.
If the Japanese would translate their websites in English, make it easier for foreigners to buy, and wouldn't sell so many limited items, I wouldn't have to buy my anime goodies from Chinese websites that do offer all those things.
whatever they're translated or not, japanese sites don't ship overseas anyway
Oh.. thanks actually. this case is rly bad. esp. whenyou spend a lot on the figure.
and this ain't no pirated cd, this one hurts a lot more than that.
hahahah yea XD,...[uff thanks god that argentina empresaryes dont like anime :S]
Wonder if they ever heard of QUALITY difference..
Even Pyramid Head wouldn't touch that sh*t...
I remember that Saber...
I still LOL every time I see that derp-face.
She should appear as the next boss in the next Silent Hill game...That face would fit right in~
How the hell are people satisfied with chinese quality though???
Its stupidly obvious that the second one is a fake...
Most chinese fakes don't look that bad.. if you wanna see them go to ebay.. they all look real good but are made with cheap crap they'll fall apart under their own weight in 3 months (i know i bought one by accident.. only cost 20 cents though..)
Among the few things China CAN'T fake; an orgasm
saber looks deformed OAO
She's auditioning for the next Silent Hill boss monster...
isn't everything made in china?...
Why does anyone give a shit if China pirates anime?
With the internet and torrents, the piracy of anime is worldwide.
2.5B Yen is a drop in the bucket compared to what they're losing to p2p programs like Winny.
which reminds me that most of anime goodies sold here in Sarkoland are actually 'made in China/Taiwan', using fanarts for posters and stuffs (instead of official arts), or anime/characters names being intentionally misspelled as if they were thinking that would protect them from lawsuits...
Funny thing is that when in Taiwan ppl warned me to watch out for bootlegged figures from Hong Kong/China. But I usually avoid the whole mess by directly buying from the source.
Btw, is direct shipping from Japan that costly?
i don't know about yours but in my country, direct shipment from japan is cheaper than buying the same thing locally.
Same thing here. I saved like 50 bucks ordering from Japan than buying it from store locally. But it all depends on where you live.
