Funimation’s English release of top pantsu anime Strike Witches is all but here, with the DVD due at the end of the month. To commemorate the occasion, Funimation and Sankaku Complex are offering users the chance to get some free copies of the DVD.
The latest trailer once again shows off their deft handling of the linguistic minefield inherent in the different meanings of “pants” (and yes it does have subtitles and it is claimed to be completely uncensored):

I've submitted my entry......All thats left is to wait for the reply. :3
to think SanCom & Funimation teaming up....... :3
I'm proud of Funimation. They really do know what they're doing here.
You ARE being sarcastic. Right???
I just hope they keep it up.. Vampire Bund is going to be published by them too..
i pre-ordered it from rightstuf.. turns out i got it by this past friday. not only that but turns out it completely messed up my bank account and now im sitting in a negative zone. *shakes fists* and i thought it was supposed to be available by the 30th.
I have to say out of all the dubs I have tried to watch (excluding the bigger company dubs) this is one of the top for voice acting.
Already Preordered via amazon a long time ago, but I'll enter anyway.
CANADANE HAS APPROVED
Lots of overreaction here... The dub sounds ok to me.
exactly, but they should give us a preview of ep.7
It will NEVER be as good as StrikeSubs' special uncensored version of Ep 7.
I don't care for the dubs, they usually suck - but as long as they keep decent subs, I will support anime in North America.
So if FUMI are reading these comments, don't alter the subs to fit western culture.
I already have my copy, so it's kind of a moot point for me. Great show by the way. I'm glad I waited for the DVD release to watch it.
So many dub haters -_-
Get over yourselves and realize there are actually good dubs out there, and funimation is responsible for a decent amount of them.
I don't think they realize the demand for dubs really is huge....
although the trailer really doesn't do the show justice, I'm looking forward to the release. Watched the first two dubbed episodes and they didn't do a bad job.
I'm sorry to disagree. Strongly. They did their usual butcher job. The voice acting is mis-cast and mis-directed. Whoever does Mio Sakimoto voice doesn't seem to have bothered to watch the show she is voicing. Yoshika comes off like a whiny little baby, when in fact, it is established from the first time we see her that she is headstrong, single-minded, etc. In fact, none of the characterizations are as strong or accurate as they should be. The dialogue lacks the humor of the original as well.
Funimations' typical hack job of script buggery. Stupid, senseless changes to the dialogue. Funimation seems fond "interpreting" rather than "translating". I hear a lot of you complain about fansubbers, but the WORST fansub beats anything out of this studio by miles.
Yeah, yeah,... "a lot of people like dubs"... fine.
For me, it's like chewing aluminum foil.
God help us if they get their fucking hands on K-ON!
i have a feeling that motak96 is a troll for funimation. ho
Been waiting for this. The dub isn't bad I'll probably check it out as some of the characters I really like the English voices for.
is it a bird?...of course not you dumbass lol
Glad this got over the USA, with an English track too. I would expect ADV (if they were still around) to license it, but Funi grabbing it was surprising.
And the package is great. Especially the back, that lady had too much fun making it. She even included the girls stats. So a lot of detail went into licensing this...
I will be picking up a copy.
That and I like the English cast for it, got some of my favs.
This show sucked ass. The plot never moves forward, pust the same shit from beginning to end. oh, and a second letter from her 'dead' father. Fucking stupid.
the dubbing really fails
well this sick
Thought to self - Why couldn't they have considered wearing armour? Y'know, so one rogue bullet couldn't kill them off?
Oh, wait, I remembered - They're the main characters in a loli series.
I'm sorry to disagree, strongly. FUNimation did their usual butcher job. The voice acting is mis-cast and mis-directed. Whoever does Mio Sakimoto voice doesn't seem to have bothered to watch the show. Yoshika comes off like a whiny little baby, when in fact, it is established from the first time we see her that she is headstrong, single-minded, etc. In fact, none of the characterizations are as strong or accurate as they should be. The dialogue lacks the humor of the original as well. Funimation seems to assume we are all stupid, and need help with the hard words, and concepts.
Here are just two examples that set my teeth on edge:
I'll bet Sakimoto-san knows the difference between a HEDGEHOG and a PORCUPINE, and why the reference to the Neuroi ship as a hedgehog makes sense and the translated "porcupine" does not.
Episode two…. the narrator's voice, like all the secondary vocal acting on this show, is simply unappealing. Annoying really. And that particular opening narration is SO poorly written.
Also in epi 2… we're back from the OP… long camera shot of fleet…. In the original, we hear distant alarms and the muffled voice of the flight deck chief over the intercom. In the American version you have loud screaming and unnecessary "military-speak" babble…. Funimation's idea of "realism" I assume.
Again, I cannot emphasize enough how absolutely DREADFUL the voice acting in this series is. And it is clear that most of the problem is in the voice director(s). I still cannot get over how mis-cast Sakimoto is.
OH! And how could I forget the fact that they changed Perrine's unrequited love of the Major to "brown-noseing" Can't be saying nuthin positive about no queers, huh? Again, typical.
Funimations' usual hack job of script buggery. Stupid, senseless changes to the dialogue. Funimation seems fond "interpreting" rather than "translating". I hear a lot of you complain about fansubbers, but the WORST fansub beats anything out of this studio by miles.

"God help us if they get their fucking hands on K-ON!"
- exactly, God help us :)
I HATE Funimation dubs; Love their subs.
Hey guys, who didn't write NGE into "What are your top 4 anime series of all time?", so we can forward your names to 2ch, they'll know what to do :) only joking
This is on my to buy list along with FMA: Brotherhood.
Just used your "more at the official site" link (without the ";") and got
http://www.navarre.com/funimation/
Went to Funi site directly and selected Strike witches from their titles. Got exactly the same result.
Funi haets you if you're not a wank yankee...
Wow, this dub is horrible. The voices are completely devoid of the characteristics they have in the original.
Here's a tip, STOP SMOKING CRACK WHILE WATCHING ANIME
If people don't like the dubs, you can just watch it subtitled. The magic of dvd's these days and the best part of funimation is that most of the time, including this time, they have dual audio unlike 4kids or nelvana releases. Dub haters have no reason to complain anymore and just do so for the sake of complaining like their words have some kind of importance anymore.
I like dubs, I just don't like bad dubs. If I were to purchase products with bad dubs because I can always watch the Japanese audio with subtitles then what incentive does the company, in this case Funimation, have to produce good dubs? Only purchasing titles with high quality dubs provides a financial incentive for companies to ensure that dubbed releases are of high quality, and without that incentive the companies will continue to produce low quality dubs.
Of coarse, the people who hate *all* dubs should shut up and stop complaining, however, your comment makes it sound like you think bad dubs are acceptable because the Japanese audio with subtitles are there as an alternative, which is ridiculous.
I think most people would agree, at least from whats shown in the preview here, the strike witches dub seems to be fairly low on the quality scale.
No shit, I'm sure most people know full well that most Anime DVD/Blue-Ray releases are Dual Audio, but that's not the point. The point is that when they Dub Anime around these parts they usually fuck it up, the actors don't seem to give off the same kind of emotion as their Japanese counterparts.
Plus for those of us who've seen the original the choice of VA is an issue (well for me and my friends anyway, I'm assuming others feel the same), I mean they never even try to get people who sound like the original cast, I remember when I saw the dub of Gundam 00 some of the VAs would have been better playing other characters.
Not to mention that we only got about a dozen pro VAs here in the states and they're in EVERYTHING games, anime, commercials; and most have very little variance in there vocal range. Take Steven Blum for instance, ever since I saw Cowboy Bebop I've heard Spike everywhere. Hell my friend was playing Syphon Filter and said he voiced like 5-7 characters from random guards to a main villain.
Strike Witches
Another example of cancer killing anime
Go back to watching your "mature" anime, Narutard.
HA! Retard!
man im getting shivers listening to those dubs
Bleh, the English dub of Strike Witches was just cheesy. Funimation always has that side to them, where they ruin good animes. Yes FMA was Good, but lately.. all the new animes that funimation have grabbed a hold of just turn out super cheesy.
I don't know what you mean, I've been more than content with all the Funimation dubs I've heard lately. Shuffle, Gunslinger Girl, Black Cat, Baccano, all good. This Strike Witches dub however... the voices themselves are fine and dandy but their inflections are just all terrible, this was the fault of the ADR director I think.
me want to fap!
I already got it 3 days ago! MWAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!
How?!
I guess you preordered as well,eh?
No it was just at the store I went to so I bought it.. that happens sometimes..
Now that you mention it, I did happen to see it at Best Buy two days ago. Completely forgot about that.
Hey, free stuff is free stuff.
DVD, ha! Is that like VHS? We want blu-ray!
EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeevery time a dub-available release gets out, the anti-dubs people(I am REALLY tempted to use the word weaboo here, but while not all of them are, most of them definitely are. Just a question of whether or not they admit it) are the FIRST to highlight their opinion. Sure, it's a free Internet, but don't blame anyone else when others look down upon them and fire back opinions of their own that clash with these anti-dubs mob, because 'free' also appeals to those who don't share the same opinion as you, WEABOO! *ah, I slipped my fingers!*
Listen to that shit first before you go right out and say "Dub sucks WTF!" I don't care if you have to torrent it or watch it off some generous Spaniard who is seeding on Targa, just watch 'em first.
Oh, and news flash: The Japanese have their own share of bad acting. You might not give a shit because you don't understand Japanese, but admitting to not know Japanese only renders your opinions even much less credible.
I've seen some great VA casting/dubs (Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic!), and some bad ones, as well.
Keep in mind that part of the problem with dubs is not the directors'/VAs' fault. The dub has to match the mouth movements, and the timing of the mouth open/mouth closed movements is animated to match the original language.
There are bad Japanese dubs... Most English dubbed anime even now though, makes old kung-fu movies look like masterpieces. You have to take it on a case by case basis...
The non-word "weeaboo" though... wow, has it come a long way. From gibberish in a comic, to a wordfilter for wapanese, now meaning anything from Japanophile to fanboy. If it keeps this trajectory it will soon mean otaku too, to more than it already does, and maybe it'll even encompass any kind of asian fandom. It used to be reserved for the narutard types who would insert Japanese words into their sentences and act like Japanese wannabes, usually with bad misconceptions about what real Japan is like. Now it's just a word used by trolls and otaku to cuss each other out, haha
Dubs do suck.
The American voice actors just do such a half-assed job, and most of the time the character's voice doesn't even fit.
E.g. Tsukimiya Ayu from Kanon.
Dubs are awesome, they're one of the reasons why anime companies overseas are still making money.. dub anime is also in more demand than sub anime like it or not..
Dubs only suck if you, well, hate dubs. I happen to love dubs, and think that most of them are just as good (and sometimes better) as their japanese counterparts.
Some of those Actors are Canada if you don't believe me go and ask Scott McNeil.
People with narrow-minded mentality such as this always ticks me off. Oh well, not that it's affecting my paycheck or anything.
In any case, weaboos still should NOT complain because of the dual-audio availability to satisfy the weaboo within you. Even with the extra cost of casting English VAs, anime DVDs in general still cost less in US than in Japan itself. But you still had to outright say whatever you think to make people think more highly of you as some sort of a cultured prophet.
The anime is there for you to watch. Settle the hell down and shut the hell up.
The original voicetrack still being available doesn't change the fact that the dub isn't exactly perfect.
I've heard considerably worse stuff before, but in general the performance of western (be it American, European (I'm German myself and have to deal with dozens of earcancer dubs over here as well)) or whatever is abysmal. They completely fail at portraying as wide a range of emotion as the Japanese ones seem to do quite easily, so they tend to seem quite fake.
It's not just that, though. Often the editing/mixing is horrid, too. I mean, look at the trailer above. They basically talk to each other like they're standing in a small room together. The original dub had them barking orders loudly, but at accordingly lower volume. It sorta gave me the feeling that the voice actors aren't allowed to yell in the recording studio. Which is weird.
Canada, American, they're still half-assed, sound wrong and suck!
holy crap 30 y/o dubbing loli characters ( ´_ゝ`)
How old do you think the Japanese seiyuu are?
Blatant ignorance or just extreme bias @ 30-year-old loli voices.
In which case, would make him all the more pathetic.
Hey wait.... PEDOBEAR DETECTED! OH SHI-...!!!
I think he was expecting real lolis behind the scenes. Haha.
I've decided to give it a shot and try to win it myself. Hope I can still win it, despite being in Britain though!
I'll admit, their FMA dubs weren't bad at all. The best dub ever is still Cowboy bebop though.
The Cowboy Bebop dub hands down beats the original. And the Samurai Champloo dub.
I hate dubs, but I can appreciate a good dub. That trailer....was abysmal.
Dubs? Wazzat? ^_^
I prefer subtitles to dubbing. I always feel like dubs dumbs down the context somewhat, and the voice acting doesn't quite have me convinced all the time.
Dunno, must be something the Queen of England says to a new knight, perhaps?
COMMANDER! PERMISSION TO MISPRONOUNCE JAPANESE NAMES?!
GRANTED!! -.-
LOL, so unbelievably true. please funimation, quit taking japanese animes and dubbing them, you manage to ruin every single last one you touch.
Plus english voice actors fail in general.
Well, it doesn't hurt if it's Dual Audio with Subs.
That's what it is. Dual Audio with subs according to Amazon.
Every anime release hear in the States has either dual audio w/ subs, or Japanese audio w/ subs only.
Are anime DVDs still released without Dual-Audio and subs? I'm pretty sure I haven't seen one for at least a decade.
Actually, I can definitely confirm that, as Funimation sent me my copy 1 week ago(I preordered, therefore I got it early for some reason). It is most definitely NOT censored, and the Japanese track is still intact.
Thank God, I just watched a clip on the Funimation sight and the Dub is Horrible. I only watched about 30 seconds before I had to shut it off....
Yoshika's voice was like nails on a chalkboard and Lynette sounded like she belonged in a porn vid....
God Awful; but then again I guess it would be hard to take the show seriously if you were a voice actor....
sankaku sellin' out pimpin poorly localized jokes! hooray for the marketing goldmine of weaboo!
U mad?
"implying that localizing isn't poor itself"
*Sigh* We need to get a life. Including me.
Hey, Funanimation is the best dubbing company in the US. Long live their FMA dubs! :D
4Kids and Nelvana are childish shit tho.
Hm. This is quite a way to garner some attention for the release. Nothing goes over as well as free stuff.
Such a stupid anime.
No you.
So who is the stupid Ano here?
First one
It manage to get a second season considering Gonzo is having buisness issues.
erm I kind of don't understand if I can take part if I'm in Europe not USA
Feel free to. You don't need to be logged in either, in case anyone is wondering about that.
