They'll be back harder, bitter, nastier, stronger. I can guarantee you that.

First, the "Snuck in the back door" move fueled anger that's being used by the "Tea Baggers" now in the health care debate. Second, it did hurt donations for funding. Some people even used it to lobby against science funding. Third, it's amazing there's been no vandalism, but a lot of places have increased security accounting for it. It's even used by the "Home Schooler" people, even though those people usually are "Jack Chick" style fundies who reject science.

There are plenty of 'cautionary tales' not to do stuff like that. One time a whole town labored for a month or so in the UK to shovel dirt on their town's "Mountain" shortly after an "Official surveyor" said it was slightly too short.

IMO, it would have been far better if they kept Pluto, named the next one "Xena" then just said "Icy asteroid nearly as big as Pluto" for the rest of them...

I mean, what's next: Should we call earth "Sol 3" like it was Star Wars? And then consider even "Sol" mythological and just make a number that starts in a spiral pattern from the chaotic soup in the milky way, so it's a number in the billions then a dash-3?
