It's unfortunate that Warhammer Online has so few population in the lower tiers beyond T1. T4 is a riot as ever though. Gotta love the regular violence that breaks out.

However, Warhammer Online has very little to offer beyond RvR (which they do very well). One ends up having nothing to do beyond restocking on potions and other supplies during the offpeak hours.

However, WoW is something like a 'city that never sleeps'. You will always have something to do even during offpeak hours. Not to mention it has everything. It's a generalist game, and so far, it has helped WoW out alot.

Blizzard = former Games Workshop employees who got fired/left for trying to be creative thus they established Blizzard and created a better franchise imo. So technically some of Blizzard developed Warhammer back then.

I was trying to say the games on this list are all the huge MMO botter games. There are so many programs that run the game for the players that the players don't even have to be home for their characters to play. Its the same tools the gold sellers use in all online MMOs but most of these long time players all use them too. So its no wonder that the biggest games that allow automated players - scripted players computer controlled - to endlessly run through quests and mount up faction money and quest rewards would top this list. All of the above I do not play because of all the botters in them and I will not sign on to a new game that has proven the GMs will not put blocks into stop them.

Just for the record, MMOs don't usually have amazing PS3 graphics because they want as many people playing as possible. If it had the system requirements of Crysis, it wouldn't make enough money because not enough people would subscribe. However, practically anyone who has a computer today can play games with minimum requirements like WoW's.

Better graphics would be nice, yes, but graphics can be too good for MMOs.

"...Fastest selling PC Game of all time."

To put that into perspective for Japan:

"Yo Square Enix, I'm really happy for you, I'm going to let you finish, but Wrath of the Lich King was the FASTEST SELLING PC GAME OF ALL TIME!. OF ALL TIME!!!"

I don't really care about graphics or shit, I usually play Tremulous, a FPS wich is ugly as hell. Although, I have also played WoW and I found it pretty entertaining, BUT I hated to hit 80. So I made 10 chars with different classes and hit 70> with all of them, then quit WoW.

BTW I also enjoyed the auction house, I always loved that kind of things(selling/scaming, speculating with prices, etc). Also, I love exploration.

WoW is more than raiding 24/7. I used to play it <2h and had a lot of fun.

I think I'll play it again when Cataclysm hits, because It's going to change low level zones and stuff - more ways to leveling :D.

OH, I played it for about a year, I also quit because of its really expensive price.

Japaneese would rather play a shitty mmo made in japan than playing WOW. Same goes with video games in general.

Japanese likes to play MMO with anime-esque looks and are grind-fests instead of an MMO that offers things you can do with and against other people as soon as possible.

Given the choice of the level 80 cap of WoW which you can reach within about three months or the 'Jump straight to PVP even at level 1' of WAR or the 'Level up to max in a week and go kill someone' of Guild Wars or even the 'Be involved in all sorts of scoundrelly as soon as you log in' of EVE Online, they will still choose to grind out in their grindfest MMO, just because of the anime looks.

I liked it at the beginning, horde side, first to clear MC and BWL on our server. I think they ruined it when they gave alliance shamens and horde pallys, and especially with blood elves. I like my horde to be a bunch of ugly monsters.

i prefer to play MMOs that arent a grindfest chore. yeah , i know every MMO is a grindfest, but some are better than others in that regard. as for WoW it looks like all the other stereotypical medival games. not much in the way of character creation and every person looks fugly. muscly men must be warriors and few delicate women must be clerics. ugh. and i dont see why people opt to be human in game life either. i dont mean full furry and i don't mean human like things like dwarves or elves either, but it would be nice to do more costomization, even unnatural hair colors. Then again a lot of socially awkward pathetic people play WoW so it's what they hope to be, no?

In WoW, I really hate the human look. I always choose to play Undead because I get to be skinny (which fits the rogue-ish look), pale (which makes my character unsettling to look at) and has CLAWS! And cannibalize! And Will of the Forsaken! And the ability to remain underwater for long periods of time! Yes! Now I can ambush anyone anywhere, even underwater, I can just relentlessly chase after warlocks and I look creepy what with all those black leather armor and the exposed bones!

Oh god, I love being undead.

I played WoW for quite a long time, quit more than a year ago. It was quite fun and enjoyable experience if you have the right company to play with, and when compared to other MMOs it's simply the best bang for your buck. No other MMO I played comes even close to the amount of spit and polish WoW has.

But then again, it's not really about WoW as much as it's about Blizzard. Every game they made was a huge success and personally I look forward to StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3.

It's the Blizzard brand. They always polish their games until they shine so bright you need to wear sunglasses to even glance at them.

But of course, like all games, too much playing can burn you out, bore you or whatever. Happens to me. I stopped finding WoW interesting (especially the PVP, which has turned into a controlled environment thing instead of part of the greater world) after three years of playing and quit.

But I must say, a lot of the hate comments directed at WoW are kinda funny. But this is Sankaku, and most of you lot would rather masturbate while pretending to date a DS girl. I don't think the WoW crowd would have anything kind to say about you either :)

WOW is the best of paid MMORPGS thanks to it's casual gamer-friendly mechanics, as opposed to total suckage that is FFXI which features 18-hour boss. WOW can be played 2 hours daily so it wouldn't ruin your life with those grinding thing, WOW also has a bonus for resting.

    for many reason
ffxi is a old mmorpg that you need play 16 hours everyday if you want "good experience"

wow is easy to play but hard to dominate

I would love to start playing WoW but I know I'll get addicted to it.

If they're going to say that celebrities play this game then they should say how much they play it. When I hear that people like Jessica Simpson and Jenna Jameson play this I assume that they only played this for a few hours and then either forgot about it or just lost interest in it.

"It took a mere 150 developers to..."
But how long did it take them to make all those things and how experienced were the developers? Just stating it like that makes it sound as if it's something any group of amateur developers could do in a short period of time.

"I would love to start playing WoW but I know I'll get addicted to it."
WoW is not addictive unless you make it to the endgame content. For every addicted player, you can be damn sure there are hundreds who don't make it to level 20, which is where the trail ends.

"If they're going to say that celebrities play this game then they should say how much they play it. When I hear that people like Jessica Simpson and Jenna Jameson play this I assume that they only played this for a few hours and then either forgot about it or just lost interest in it."
The celeb thing is, for the most part, pure marketing.
Wait, did you just say Jana Jameson? I grew up with her... eeeh... fine educational programs. Somehow, I just can't imagine her sitting in front of a PC and playing WoW. Although, I can imagine her in "other" ways.

"But how long did it take them to make all those things and how experienced were the developers? Just stating it like that makes it sound as if it's something any group of amateur developers could do in a short period of time."
Blizzard is famous for making only the highest qualities of games, and WoW is no exception. It does what it's supposed to (keep players hooked) better then the rest of the market combined. How can you call them "amateurs"?

    Comment by H-Ero
    05:34 25/02/2010 # ! Neutral (0)

I know the developers at Blizzard aren't amateurs. It's just that the "a mere 150 developers" comment gives off the impression that making the game was easy which would cause amateur developers and people that are interested in getting into game design to think that they could make a game with the same quality as WoW without realizing how much time, effort, and skill would be required.

    Comment by Anonymous
    12:01 25/02/2010 # ! Neutral (0)

150 veteran developers will forever beat the 1000 inexperienced developers in creating the quality game. Really, it depends on just how good those developers are. Highly experienced game developers provided with sufficient numbers will forever be better than a legion of inexperienced developers. It also works out in alot of other things in real life too.

When it comes to software development, adding more people to a project doesn't magically reduce production speed or increase quality.

It's like filming a movie - having more people than you need just adds unnecessary overhead to the entire production.

Took them 4 to 5 years, with them scrapping an entire graphical engine part way during development.

Would've taken even longer, but Vivendi got antsy in the end and one of their VPs announced that the game would be out with X-mas, and that became the reality, even though it could've used a couple more months of smoothing.

Plus, it would've given them a better indication of the coming storm of subscriptions that they were going to get. They counted on some 250k in users, they hit the million mark far quicker than they thought even remotely possible.

The generalized idea that only fugly basement dwellers would play WoW is based upon nothing but your superficial view on mmorpgs. It's a good game in a way, sure enough, the game has been deteriorating, and I would've continued playing if I was still playing it with my friends. I had loads of fun playing WoW, socially and with the game itself. It's such a simplistic game with good functionality and approachability, disregarding repetative factors because in the end, you're not playing the game for those. I've quit for 5 months by now and I still have a lot of happy memories.
