K-ON!! Airs On An Incredible 28 TV Stations

k-on-yui-stair-fall-by-ufu.jpg

The eagerly anticipated second season of K-ON! has been announced to be broadcast on a staggering 28 Japanese television stations, more than triple the average number for an anime series.

Normally the number of stations a new series will be aired on isn’t especially noteworthy, but in this case the sheer size of the new K-ON!!’s broadcast stations makes for an exception:

k-on_second_season_broadcast_channels.jpg

For comparison,  reasonably popular series airing this season are Sora no Woto with 4 stations, Dance in the Vampire Bund with 6, Omamori Himari with 7,  and Hidamari Sketch Hoshimittsu with only 3.

The first series of K-ON! only aired on 9 stations, so this huge jump in the number of networks airing the show should prove testament to just how hotly awaited the continuation of the Keion-bu’s story is.

Indeed, stores in Akiba right now are still bedecked with all sorts of banners and posters commemorating the 2nd season announcement (the other current big otaku celebratory events being for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and Haruhi no Shoushitsu), so this new reveal only stirs the red-hot embers of otaku excitement even more.

I'm not a fan of moe anime, but K-ON! was able to beat me.
The girls aim for all the weak points, and their formation is perfect. It's impossible to avoid their attack, and even if you're some weirdo and the main cast didn't do anything for you, the supporting cast is also solid and fills all the spots.
And even though they're all standard archetypes at first glance, a lot of originality in their personalities can be found, so they're not just clones of previous moe characters.
It's a guilty pleasure to watch this, but a pleasure after all. In terms of moe anime, this is king. Its beauty it's in it's characters and soft lighthearted humor(I truly laughed at some spots, and it's hard for a show to make me do that, I usually never laugh alone). It doesn't have any story, but well, you can't have it all, and it's just 12 eps.
tl;dr: the show is fun and well done, go watch it.

I normally avoid that smacks of moe like the plague, but really enjoy K-ON!, largely because it is very, very funny. And, honestly, it's not *that* moe, when all is said and done - certainly no more so than Bamboo Blade, another slice-of-life high-school "harem show" with no "plot" to speak of. And, hell, it's got as much - if not more - plot than Sayonara, Zestubou Sensei... or a lot of older, classic anime franchises like You're Under Arrest or Oh My Goddess, to name just two.

Taishou Baseball Girls, now... that's probably a moeblob, if ever there was one. But even that's got a plot, and some brutally funny moments, like the nighttime fight in one of the later episodes.

    07:00 21/02/2010 # ! Neutral (0)

You can pretty much blame the complete collapse of the American anime market for that one. Full Metal Panic was never a particularly top-selling franchise in Japan, but was much more popular in the English-speaking world. When the market collapsed, publishers like Kadokawa and Pony Canyon had Kyoto Animation produce more shows that would sell well in Japan -- hence things like Lucky Star, and K-On, and so on. So it's not "stalling" on anyone's part -- it's a business decision.

Yeah, the dropping of Tokyopop's novels is the biggest hit imo; novels > animation.

I didn't mention it in the article, but yes, of course these channels are not all accessible from any one broadcast area in Japan.

The list merely referred to the stations premiering the show right away or soon after the show's debut, as opposed to picking up the rights to broadcast the series months after it has aired as often happens.

Actually, these channels are even exclusive to different regions of Japan.
The 28 channels you listed form ONE network: JNN/TBS.

The reason I found Haruhi entertaining was the narrator being the main character in truth, completely random wtf twists, and the fact that the story doesn't even revolve around Haruhi that much...

Seeing Haruhi with that weird quasibucktooth look that KyoAni switched to for kon made me not even watch was after or what ended the endless 8.

    Comment by Artefact

No. It is written in Japanese not Chinese.

Chuugoku is a region of Japan. The 国 ("koku") refers to the old states/regions of Japan, like 四国. Similarly, there is 九州, etc.

It will be obvious from context which is meant, or the distinction will be written out explicitly as 中国地方 ("chihou" - "region"), etc.

it's always some complaint. I remember when there were people saying that please twins sucked because it took the whole series to reach the conclusion (the definition of a plot). K-on doesn't revolve around a continuous plot like that. It's actually a better example of the slice of life genre. There is no conclusion in life so the plots are just day to day events.

I can't see why there are so few that can take K-on as it is. It's about highschool girls hanging out and playing music. For better or worse, that's it-oh my god who is Busu-Kawaii and what is wrong with her face?!

Sorry for the cold blanket. I think K-ON!! comes out too fast.

Given that the 12 episode (in fact, it's 10 1/2. Ep 11 and half of ep 12 were fillers) anime uses up all the material in the manga then (about the full 2 volumes of manga), I dun see how the second season gets enough materials. With the available materials only enough to run for 6 ep, it is likely that the S2 will be another Bleah or Narutard.

Please dun say things like, "The author will come out with the story faster". It takes 10 months for a single Tankoubon of K-ON! to come out, (The last volume, Volume 3 came out in Dec 2009. I anticipate the next volume coming out in Oct 2010) with the current serialization at the middle of volume 4, I really can't see how the author can come out with something so fast.

as a marketing sucsses in selling the anime. It would be better if they waited a little longer and releassed it when the manga has more story to it.And sometimes if you wait a little, people have more money to buy this anime, but not all.

Just making up stuff, could actually destroy the value of this anime if it doesn't follow the manga, rarely it happens that an anime is better if it didn't follow the manga. But certailny it does happen sometimes that an anime is better then the manga. Also having a different story in an anime then a manga, can make you want to buy the manga more. Thus why we sometimes get ruined animes if they didn't follow the manga. All a marketing issue.

"Mainstream is Ghibli stuff and anime with actual storylines."

Not all mainstream anime have storylines though and not all non-mainstream anime are without storylines.

In no way did I say that all non mainstream anime are without storylines.

Don't throw in your own readings and throw it off as other's. Read twice before reply.

c'mon guys, lets be sincere: k-on is kicking ass right now, even thou many dont like it so much...its undeniable...

perhaps not the most incredible plot ever but then again as some1 said b4, everything kyoani touches turns to gold...

i myself love k-on and the so hated moe crap it contains, not coz its moe in itself but coz the characters are funny and all...

sometimes we just have to turn off our brains and enjoy the show as it is...

Understood. And I can "turn off my brain", and enjoy stuff like K-ON, but sometimes I think its a bad thing that "brain-off" moe is so much more popular than animes with an actual story. I mean hell...Haruhi has it's share of moe, but still had an interesting story. K-ON -only- has moe.

    Well, whatever...

But K-On! is also slice of life, where story mostly consists of characters doing everyday stuff or mundane things happening. It doesn't need a story like Haruhi's because it's a different genre.

yeah, i know what you mean..its not like moe can take over plot well written but then again, marketing is all about delivering what ppl seek, even if that ppl isnt so well acknowlaged about it
