I might be a somewhat hardcore fan of the Metroid series and thus a bit biased, but the fact that Mario, Pikachu and Sonic is in top 10 on a coolest game characters list while Samus Aran is not is incomprehensible to me.

Yes, Snake is number 1! I am quite pleased by this. The fact that Cloud is so high, combined with the fact that Amaterasu made the list at all, are just cherries atop my sundae at this point.
