The worst video game of 2009 has been all but decided, with 2ch’s 2009 “Kusoge of the Year” award being handed down to a title so buggy as to barely be playable, in fact possessing even more bugs than were present in the PC original.
The sure winner (or possibly loser) of the award, 戦極姫～戦乱に舞う乙女達～ / Sengoku Hime -Senran ni Mau Otome-tachi-,” is a substantially remade PS2 port of an adult game for the PC, a title with such notoriously bad art that it became somewhat infamous.
As the award is given only to console titles, the atrocious PC original, as well as several other dire titles, are spared from competition.
Complaints centre on the amount of game-breaking bugs introduced into the game despite it having had “a fee-paying alpha-test” with the PC release.
The game is summed up as “replacing all the ero they took out with new bugs.”
The characters do however exhibit a significant improvement in character design, being now only mediocre instead of atrocious:

Other awful games of 2009 cited barely compare to this, mostly being obscure titles unworthy of mention, with the worst of Japan’s gaming industry easily shielding any undeserving top sellers from inclusion.
With the possible exception of Nippon Ichi’s “Let’s 全力ヒッチハイク!!!!!!!!! / Let’s Full Power Hitchhike!!!!!!!!!,” a title evidently intent on redefining Wii quality:

OK, I lost it, so I can't even pretend this is marginally acceptable.
The remake does not look horrific, just cobbled together, like someone created a base model and one guy said 'hey, lets give her a SWORD!' and copy/paste photoshopped one in, then another said, 'well now she needs ARMOR' and so on.
Just a patchwork of one bad idea after another...

personally, all I can comment on is this art, and I have to say that for an eroge, it's got some pretty cool and sexy character designs and outfits, just going off looks... in that aspect, I think they succeded in one place where the old game failed.
Art doesn't suck in general, it just looks like they had several different people making the art, some of them sucked, some of them sucked sometimes.
The outcome is pretty ugly, but I do agree some of them don't look bad at all.
And well, some female characters look ok, ALL male characters look retarded, like they were added by someone with downs after the game was "ready"

Even Umineko looks miles better than the PC version... go on vndb and look it up, and check the screenshots out. They're hilariously bad.
Umineko is meant as a music novel so the visual quality wasn't too hype either.
I gotta say the mediocre design was at least normal to the eyes, unlike the PC version that just wants to make you puke.
I can't put a word in Sengoku hime... I am completely floored by that Hitchike crap... Kay, that's a game for kids, but still the worst I've seen.
No actually i didn't think it was the worst i've seen, I would say Tsukihimes art is alot worse than this if we're going purely by art standards, but Tsukihime makes up for it marginally with the plot, I haven't played this so i couldn't speak for this, though obviously nothing mind blowing if it's general stuff.
Tsukihime was a doujin game so bad artwork is to be expected. Once the remake comes out it will most likely have F/HA quality art or better.

The PS2 ver. I have do not display such a problem.
So far as I'm concerned, my game has not crashed or breakdown yet. Just the loading time took me about 1 1/2 min's longer than usual.
