Dengeki once again compiles a ranking of the best anime of the fall 2009 season, along with a comparison of how highly anticipated these titles were.
How the season’s most anticpated anime were looking forward to prior to their actual airing:
1. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
2. Darker Than Black II
3. Inuyasha Finale
4. Fairytale
5. Seitokai no Ichizon
6. Tegamibachi
7. 11eyes
8. Nyankoi!
9. Seiken no Blacksmith
10. Kobato
The most well received anime of fall 2009 actually ranked thusly:
1. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
2. Nyankoi!
3. Darker Than Black II
4. Sora no Otoshimono
5. Full Metal Alchemist
6. Kimi ni Todoke
7. Dragonball KAI
8. Seitokai no Ichizon
9. Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Once again it seems fan expectations are an appalling indication of just which titles turn out to be any good, with but 4 titles remaining in the ranking, an even worse performance than with the summer anime.
At least this time the number one title was maintained, although with it being Biribiri it would be rather embarrassing had they been incorrect.

Kind of sad to see the huge fetish for biribir in the massively overrated To Aru Kagaku no Railgun continues. Darker than black II might have been disappointing compared to the original series, but it was still way better than To Aru Kagaku no "plot" Railgun.

Anime isn't just about character, it's about the story too, the world where the character lives, the people that surrounds them, their struggle and con flicts, their victories and tribulations. based on real life, these are the stories that came from what man may call the last frontier: the human imagination.....
I didn't watch To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. It wasn't relevant to my interests.

I've watched both Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun.

The fact that Yawn Koi is even on the final list shows just how stupid we really are, let alone that it somehow made #2. There were actually quite a few honestly good anime in 2009 but aside from Sunred's miraculous appearance this reads like a laundry list of mediocrity.
No kidding, where's Birdy? That was one hell of a great second season. Or what about Bakemonogatari, didn't it even break sales records or something?

LMAO, Biribiri probably doesn't even realize what she just did.
She must be kept away from the sea at all cost as not only is she fatal to other swimmers, she poses a serious threat to all marine wildlife within the vicinity. (Well, maybe besides electric eels)
That said, she would be useful when it comes to fishing, just toss her off the fishing boat and tonnes of fresh sashimi will come floating to the surface.

I dont think Index was anywhere near as popular as Railgun. While Biribiri is my favourite character, I wish there was some screentime for the index characters, especially Kaori.

She is just a generic character and most of the watchers just want to see her doing whatever the studio want and they call it "character development".
Mikoto failed me this season.
Umineko actually ranked? That's pretty sad. The anime was bland at the best of times, and an utter abomination to the sound novel at the worst of times.
Not everyone watching it played the sound novel (I'd argue it's likely most folks watching it were newbs or only seen the anime of Higurashi), and to them it was their first exposure to Ryuukishi07's brilliance with this title, which still shines through in spite of its numerous shortcomings. I've noticed the series ranked really well mostly with people who hadn't played it nor were influenced by the complaining fans or spoilers from the original. It just shows that lots of fans complaining doesn't necessarily reflect number of actual viewers (cough Geass cough). Besides, despite what you say, at the best of times, it had some of the most awesome voice acting ever.
It's not even that bad
Most people got into R07th due to the anime, those who played it whined about how things were cut. It's the same for Fate and for Tsukihime, and Tsukihime got the worst since people seem to deny it even exist.
In other words, everything is fine when you don't know there's something wrong or missing.

I actually dropped that series because I found it boring. The first episode was pretty good because I found the references entertaining, but it kind of went downhill from there.

The way everything came together in the end was great. I'd be very disappointed if it isn't continued. It said it wouldn't be, but you can't really believe that.

Nyankoi was really good till ep. 6. After that, it turned to your usual moeblob harem thing.
I mean it. What the fuck was that twin-magical-tsundere(which also comes with the twintails of course)-goth-loli-miko-girl-charging-power-with-Pocky anyways... Not every good make a whole now, does it?
Also, Sora no Otoshimono was the greatest suprise of the season; really enjoyed it. It was well.. made with love.
Well in Nyankoi the breasts usually stayed in the enjoyable scale, in Sora no Otoshimono only the fans of gigantic breasts could enjoy fully, though there was an obligatory DFC.

In their defense, the Fall 2009 season seemed to have a lot of shows that you would not have expected much from before watching.
Sora no Otoshimono being a prime example. Don't know why Umineko did not make the first list, I thought it was fairly anticipated for?

The difference was that NyanKoi was comedy with girls. Not fanservice with comedy.
NyanKoi certainly was a lot better than anybody thought by seeing the trailer. Nothing special but very enjoyable, funny and relaxing.

but rather than starting off strong and declining in quality, it started off shitty and got much better near the end, so people including me have a good impression of it
I mostly agree with this other than railgun at number 1, sod knows why so many bash the new FMA, people need to realise the original was mostly fillers.
