  You misunderstood. I was not saying his assessment on the nature of today’s JRPGs was incorrect, I was merely stating that his opinion is utterly worthless and that he is in no position to tell Japan what they need and don’t need to knock off. If I want sophisticated gameplay and don’t care about pretty girls, I play Risen or X3 (Germanfag here). JRPGs are just fine as they are.

  I’m also a Japanese student and I have to agree on the 18 month part, maybe even less if you could put more time in it. If you learn for about 2 hours a day and try to immerse yourself with japanese music and anime and such for about 5 days a week, you’ll learn it in just a little over a year.   Hmm. I don’t think anyone should have a problem with optional stripping of its characters, but I think it’s a little overboard to make your characters stronger through this method. It may turn off some people, and when those same people meet up with a friend, they’ll be asked “So why aren’t the girls in their underwear yet?”

  Britfag here, I second this opinion. I play JRPGs all the time, not just localized ones (Japanese fluent) and I can say that he is correct about the stupid moe and loli blob slapping over them, instead of focusing on the gameplay/battle system and plot.
