Sora no Woto Ideal vs Actuality

From the spectacular art of Kishida Mel to the moe blobs of K-ON!, observers can’t help but notice something of a gap between ideal and actuality in the case of Sora no Woto…

The original illustration of the character looks so much better than the anime version.
.... refer back to phailness of valkyria chronicles... the anime was horrid, the world isnt always fair, the game was awesome though, own it in japanese and love it to death
but i dono, it just looks different, but i believe it may have potential
They just dropped the original (and superior) design in favor of possibly more $ to them. This is how they think:
K-On = big ca$h
so
K-On moe blob style = big ca$h,
thus
Any other anime + moe blob style = big ca$h.
But tbh I don't think that the same style would fit every anime in the world, especially not here.
Fail, custumer will bored
Fail, customer will bored
Yeah, too bad, but you're right. Just check, where was the K-ON!, and where is now. Was good for a moment, but forgettable. It doesn't count anymore to make a good, evergreen animu, just moe shit for the big ca$h.
Also, totally agree with HyperKnuckles.
This is an anime about blowjobs in army while K-On is more about handjobs in highschool. Totally different!
Looks like another perfect product for the idiot masses. I'm proud to have gotten sick of K-On two episodes in
looks like another comment from another person amongst another kind of idiot masses.
absolute fail, sir! i've seen hundreds of comments like yours from your idiot comrades who feel somewhat smarter by getting sick of what other idiots are getting sick at.
@darkrockslizer:
especially not here? previews said this anime is about the life of 5 girls inside a fortress who plays music together (as it has been hinted in the title). yeah, the info regarding this anime isn't very detailed yet so far. so... isn't it a little too soon to judge the art style? well, i assume that you are not the kind of person who loves or hates just everything in relation with k-on!
EroMango, the Valkyria Chronicles anime did NOT suck, you moron! Just because the game is better does not mean the anime is bad! It was really good!
if game is better, why then have an anime?
I actually enjoyed VC, though I will admit the original art is quite a bit better (but then only a huge budget permits such art to be properly transferred to an anime)
Eromanga the anime was just fine really. I mean, we all know the longer books/visual novels are usually superior to their shorter anime counterparts, but it doesn't automatically make the anime "crap"
I don't think you realize that blobtastic animation is automatically equated to crap. Noticed how haruhi's second season was rendered in blob like animation style.
Notice how many complaints of severe quality decline there are. Now notice how every anime that has ever used this animation style has been cutting corners. Now notice why we're accusing the animation style of being crap.
It's the way they cut corners which pisses people off. Anime used to be something I could defend as an artistic medium for animation, but when it does this, I have nothing to say for it.
Pretty much this, 12:03 Anonymous.
Lack of budget means lack of full-scale and variety of animators, directors, art and concept design etc. This effectively causes corner-cutting due to lack of necessary high-level (or depending on how you see it, low-level if we're talking depth) talents to design and in turn, animate.
And with the known concept of unpaid animator internships, you think it'll do much in terms of quality assurance? I believe the current economy limits and/or crushes whatever motivation potential animators have from the start and may contribute to the recent CUALITY (sic).
And then with lack of budget, means lack of RoI (Return of Investment) due to reduced quality, people keeping to TV releases and not DVD sales with RAWS, subs etc on the release, worse economy, low successful family creation rates, reduced birth rate, potential limited to the aged to produce the same things repeatedly repackaged...
Simply put: Something has to break this endless loop; no matter what, no matter how. This is the only thing which will save the industry as a whole.
So then, what is the cause for the decline? Current economic conditions?
I see what you mean when low budget = low quality, but this isn't necessarily the case. Shaft does seem pretty good stuff despite the budget they had, for example, Bakemonogatari.
Although... I wish they'd do different marketing strategies instead of trying to solely rely on DVD sales
When I said budget, I am not limiting my statement to the animation process itself.
no,no,no, please not another moe blob
Man, I hate you K-On!! (but I luv u Mio <3 )
my thoughts were the same. another moe blob
Not Mio, Yui or Ritsu. Also, I find the art style nice and all, but only for moe anime, not something like this.
This is a moe anime, even featuring blowj*bs.
First picture I saw, I saw Mugi.
Then I saw two candidates for After School Tea Time.
Said Hi to Mio.
Saw Nadoka on my way to fill her city with Shrimp...
'sigh'
Also the eyecolor is wrong... Everything becomes a K-ON! clone now.
Ah boo fucking hoo. Cry some more!
Animation is serious business, fool.
/thread
There's no more to say about that Nishieda = awesome, Kyoani = Kyoani.
i know origonal is more moe
There's really no difference other than the embellishments, if every anime or animation in general was done at the highest quality then the costs would skyrocket why do you think early animation in the 80's was crappy? Aside from lack of computer help. The first comic stripes were printed in black and white.
No offense but if no one gets it then they are about retarded, and this Sankaku Complex article is kind of retarded too. This is really news?
@ 女中 あゆ
``Also the eyecolor is wrong... Everything becomes a K-ON! clone now.`´
Fail, since when a clone is made by the same creator!!!¿?, guess it is just a familiar to k-on art-style nothin more/less. so you fail in calling this cloned.
I like the idea. I mean anime about music and military?
Great. Give me this now.
But when I see this pictures I only can say. Oh no another K-On clon.
Ok. Pictures look nice but I only see that they are K-On alike.
I hope for good anime series but I know that they serve us only more moe...
Its by the same studio, naturally the style would be quite the same. Compare Gundam Seed with its earlier work of the same studio, like Fafner, scryed, the similarities is even greater.
As long as the storyline sticks to the (good)original work, and the animation is decent, I have no complaints.
Mugi, what happened to your eyebrows? Noooooooo
Flamethrower accident?
I like the K-ON style, no idea what your problem is, it's really well done proportional.
I bet you fap to animated girls, faggot.
and you'r willing to choke on dick if you dont? wait... i think you already do choke on dick
who doesn't? ^^
2D > 3D
Ya know, compared to some of the stuff out there, K-ON's artistic style isn't so bad.
It's worlds better than the whole One-piece/ Bleach/ CLAMP trinity of leggy distortion, which work much better in the original manga.
K-ON's crime was in it's lackluster depth, and not in it's distinctive, yet still comprehensible style. If this series actually has a plot, it could be good.
Oh please. One reason One Piece is popular worldwide is because of its art direction (accuracy to the manga being another); The author knows his series is bizarre and doesn't hold back in making surreal designs.
On the other hand, K-ON was specifically created as a cute.. No, moeblob fetish which instantly killed any interest for the casual anime watcher. It turns to outright perplexity and frustration to see how candy-coated shit catches on at all.
One Piece is shit.
fck you
calm down, some people like one piece, some like what K-on has to offer. Its matter of tastes thats all. There is no point in arguing about which is better or worse.
One Piece is one piece of shit I can do without.
One Piece is one piece of shit I can't do without.
One Piece is one piece of the world's shit still worth giving a damn about.
But it is just not fitting compared to the original style of this series, it makes the characters just look different...
Yeah I don't know about you guys but I'm getting tired of seeing this art style.
The original art is quite unique and, at the very least, detailed.
But the K-on ripoff art is (in my and seemingly many others' opinions) bland and visually uninteresting.
No.
K-ON virus is spreading... now everything looks like K-ON…
actually everything now will draw like K-ON
and people's minds will become deranged due to the amount of K-ON styled art then real life will look like K-ON
The blue hair character remind me of Zange-chan of Kannagi...
Probably because the character designer is the same.
What's next? A moe Gundam series?
I can picture it already... The main villain will be a girl wearing a mask, only when she takes it off, she'll act cute and stuff...
I can only wonder when will this flood finally cease.
Wait I thought that was already the case....
Maybe you would play Metroid then have 'him' to remove the mask to reveal a girl?
Except it's a healthy strongheaded one with a body strong enough to break a man's pelvis by snusnu.
Ah yes till now there's only one Female MC in gundam.
Sadly, she never make it into anime and stuck in manga
moe Gundam? I thought we had Macross for that already.
Which is why I didn't mention Macross...
Hmmm... Can the Gundam Seed series be considered moe? I mean... Lacus was way too moe-ish for my tastes...
inb4 silly animu elitism about art.
I'm gonna say you were in after...
What's wrong with anime style?
I think it's good
KOn-efied.
So K-ONification == instant sucess? Well, at least it has a meganekk....em, I mean: WHY?!?!?!?!?
Sure this make absolutely no sense, art direction shouldn't be the thing that determine an anime's worth..but it can also be taken that way:
What i can't get is why K-ONification=instant fail...i mean really,the style is good,and this one might have a decent plot,so what's wrong?!
moe attract otaku, and a good plot attract.....the rest.
if the anime has both why complain?
oh i get it! because it's not like in the 80's ..*is shot*
*calls the ambulance* Nope, you ain't dying on me yet.
I do not think of it as instant fail, but if you take quality art and scrap it in order to cater a bunch of mindless K-On obsessed otaku, that is juat plain wrong. I for one do NOT enjoy cookiecutter anime like the one they try to sell us recently. Do not get me wrong, I do enjoy cute (moe if you will) characters as long as the moe factor only COMPLEMENTS the whole experience, but the moment the moe factor takes over and is THE main selling point of an anime, I'm through. And yes, once it gets this far the plot is usually utter crap.
I got into anime because of its diversity and I personally believe "K-Onification" aka catering to people who just want the same thing over and over again is killing diversity that makes anime stand out from other media.
I wasn't implying that you personally take the "K-Onification" as instant fail,i was referring to the crap-ton of post already bashing the anime for it's choice of art direction.
"I got into anime because of its diversity and I personally believe "K-Onification" aka catering to people who just want the same thing over and over again is killing diversity that makes anime stand out from other media."
I completely agree on that point, while i don't hate k-on-ish art i still think it is somewhat killing the identity of the anime that it is used in.
just looking at the top pics then the anime version is enough to think that the only thing that remained from the original is the hair style of the girls.
(but i didn't read the manga so i wouldn't know how the style really is so i can be taken seriously there i guess)
Unfortunately, while i hate that,i can't blame them for wanting to make money.
especially because the fanboys/otaku are the majority targeted, selling something that they are sure that will please them mean that they'll rack up money no matter how the show is.
Fact is:people that want diversity in anime today aren't "needed" by the anime industry.
we just sometimes find something that pleases us,but in very rare case has been made with the non-otaku public in mind.
There are big name (i think..?) that aren't especially aimed at otaku (or rather i hope..),but it still is insignificant in comparison of the "moe" wave.
It will die out in due time,or so i hope.
But i still think people shouldn't throw away something that might be good at the first sight of a "K-Onification" or other similar style.
....can i die yet?
Agreed - let's wait and see what they'll do with Sora no Woto, but just in case, I'm not flying high. Though, I'm hoping that change comes sooner rather than later before any additional damage is done - not only to the industry, but to the reputation of animegoers around the globe.
I just thought you wanted to live to see the day anime gets reincarnated and not get shot by someone who still lives in the past. Thanks Anon and goodbye.
Anon fails, and cannot understand the long-term damage done to the industry. They're playing a pyramid game and I shall watch them suffer for their sins.
This just seems a little more unfortunate to me. K-On was a decent series, but am I the only one who sees this as another clue to the downward spiral that the anime industry is going through? "That anime series did well, so let's copy parts of it in order to raise our appeal and ratings." It's almost like the industry is raising otaku who follow one thing until it becomes stale. Almost like locusts who feed on one particular type of thing until it dies and we move on to the next.
What happened to originality? What happened to having multiple genre of anime in a season so diverse that it allowed you to pick what type of thing you liked instead of force-feeding you the dregs of what a successful anime left behind?
It kind of feeling like the glory days are long gone and left behind.
Yea this sadens me. I really like K-on. But I'm starting to hate it because its success is killing the industry. Yea it was nice, but come on, I don't need too see it in every damn series.
Bazookah?
This moe blob shit is becoming a trend and it's pissing me off.
Yuck.
Give me the original illustration.
My good, all of KyoAni shit looks like K-On... that's gay; and lazy.
Fuck off. Enjoy watching Naruto, faggot.
Yeah because we all know there aren't any anime out there besides k-on and naruto. Seriously idiot I'd prefer anime studios like madhouse.
KyoAni is not affiliated with the production of this anime in any way.
So the disease is spreading to other studios :S worse than I though...
Don't know whats the difference. They both look incredibly cute to me.
I stoped watching Seiken No Blacksmith cuz of that.
The too much different style from character on manga.
Another K-Onification victim :(
*sorry about my poor english
Huh what? I dont get this post at all. All I see is a bunch of pretty pictures of K-On girls that do cosplay.
The illustration id awesome!
The anime is the K-On level type of awesome!~
Bah! Fans of manga have always complained about style changes in anime adaptations since the jurassic. This is nothign new, this has nothing to do with the "moe fad" or anything. Fans complain, they always do.
This. 100 times this.
Can I take her home with me? Both versions?
Cute is precious, either way.
I wonder if they drink tea and eat cake instead of showing up for their front-line assignment
Anyone who doesn't like moe art can fuck off back to your Naruto and Bleach shit. If you don't like K-on style art that's fine, but let the rest enjoy it.
But this isn't K-ON! so it shouldn't look that way. It justs looks like a trace and the characters nothing like how they look in the original work.
Let it look like whatever they want it to look like. You didn't make it, so leave it the fuck alone.
I am sure the manga artist didn't draw it the way he did to make it become totally different looking as anime.
People complain about china tracing styles but if it happens in japan it is great?
Yeah. Too bad there is no manga or novel of this title yet. This is an anime original production. So the art in the anime, for all intents and purpose, is actually the definitive form.
You are about to cross some fucking lines, muthafucka!
I actually like both styles, honestly.
If I were to differ styles, then it should be in versus with an ugly one. Comparisons between these two is pretty tough since I both like the styles.
I'm not seeing the problem here. Kyoani's art is cute. That was all K-on had going for it but this will likely be really good. Kyoani has a knack for presentation.
Although in a world where everyone without exception is cute enough to die for, it really fucks with your standards. Imagine if everyone in RL was hot - what the fuck would that be like...
This is why anime needs old men and women to balance shit out. The contrast is good for you. Maybe the occasional fat girl or crooked nose person too. Just for contrast.
UN!
SHOU!
SAN!
SHIMAI!
Go watch some Kaiji, it'll balance out your moeified vision.
At least it isn't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo7Cp3GsyxQ
What ever, a fail is a fail, at least there is something to learn from it.
Moe blob pantsu loli rape industry's decline. Oppai paipan prostitute.
I am so front page poster material.
Oh man. Here's my opinion on this:
I thought K-On! was cute. Sure, it wasn't a classic and won't be on my list of favorite anime, but I thought it was an entertaining slice of life.
The thing that is bothering me is that people are saying, "Ooh, look at how successful it was! MOE CLONES!!!" and are starting to reproduce the same image in hopes of making a bigger profit. K-On!'s style was adorable and fitting...for that anime. It seems to me like the style is almost identical to K-On!'s, I can't even spot any differences. Okay, maybe they wanted to evoke a "I liked K-On!, so maybe I'll like this anime too!" feeling. Well, they could use elements of K-On!'s style and give it their own flair. But honestly, I don't see anything original in their style, which bothers me.
Regardless of what I think of the art, I saw a preview for the anime and the premise seems interesting! Hopefully it won't be uber moe. It seems much more dramatic and plot-based than K-On! I'm eagerly waiting for when this comes out~
winner
It seems much more dramatic and plot-based than K-On!
"more" implies that K-On actually had a plot.
K-On has a plot?!
Still, I will give it a try, out of curiosity.
They all just look like Yui cosplaying as other characters to me.
KyoAni's degrading art is killing potential good anime.
too much K-ON will make you sick sir :gg:
Isn't Bad at All
This is being made by A-1 Pictures. They did Kannagi before K-ON! So they're just using their own style.
Bad animator art is bad. That`s all.
I do feel sorry for the original artist, I mean s/he's the same one who did those awesome Roronoa's character designs but... wow, so many complains. I guess anime is really all about character designs,eh? Now why didn't I see this same amount on the new Kyou No Go No Ni series.. I wouldn't mind it though as long as I can see a simple but nice quality of animation just like Kannagi.
Oh well, continue embracing Megane Mugi-chan....
I ended up dropping Kyou no Go no Ni TV due to the shit-tier animation quality...
Such a disappointment. I'd only seen the OVAs a couple months before the TV version came out, so it just made the quality drop that much worse.
I guess people forgot completely that technically this style could be attributed to Kannagi first. Though I have to say, at least there were not direct character design ripoffs from Kannagi to K-On...
It really is stretching it just a bit to say K-on is having such an influence on the recent drawing trends that are seen in shows lately. What I've noticed is that this particular style was already apparent before K-on was even animated, like in episode three of Clannad after story you'll notice a style that is extremely similar especially the facial expressions. Its not such a big deal that A-1 Pictures would use similar character model types that are seen in Kyoani's shows since character designers aren't exclusive to just a single studio, its not just a "Kyoani style" either its just "a style". A-1 also used character models in Kannagi that were similar to some of Kyoani's shows as well.
True story.
Still, her expression is spot on for Mugi.
Ultimatly though, we are dealing with an art style. Anime has had it's share of artistic trends throughout the years.
The Crux is: Will the genre continue to be a medium for innovation and artistry, or will it deteriorate with ever weakening clones and parodies?
quite seriously though..since they is the last time you see manga or game art- translate neatly into anime..most of time there is some changes in art, some major some not so major...should just get used to it.
What the shit the original arte is too way better.
You have to keep in mind, the original art is a high quality promo. The anime can't hold up to these standards. It's the same reason why Serah Farron's promo pictures are superior to actual gameplay.
I liked K-On's style in K-On.
Not in a different show with beautiful concept design beforehand.
THEIR FACES ARE SO FLAT OH GOD
Amazing how the term "moe blob" has taken off lately. New genre name in the making?
Unfortunately, just like the terms "hentai" and "lolicon", the term "moe" has faced quite a lot of changes in term of misinterpreted meaning through out the ages.
1st: The essence of cuteness in anime & manga
2nd: A genre/theme of anime/manga about cute girls
3rd: Any anime with cute (big eyed) girls in it
4th: Any anime that have a similar art style as K-on.
Well, I guess I'll check it out.
It looks too suspiciously like K ON! but people are overreacting a little, the original style from novels and manga rarely translates perfectly into anime and in this case its not like if it was that great to begin with.
It definitely loses points for originality though. The lack of it.
Influence I could see, but that's... a clone of K-on.
Just as Evangelion made all the mecha shows into emo angst with biomechs in the late 90s, K-on is turning anything with humans into K-On... wow, and it's not even KyoAni.
Atsuko Nakajima would have slam-dunked it... she knows good character design.
another anime K-Onized
The first image is more moe in my opinion.
I am disappointed.
hope they have some quality plot...
moeblob tripe
Wha
i'd prefer the original design...
Little Busters BETTER not have this art style.
wait wait wait guys... hold yer horses! why does everyone complain about the character design already? we have yet to know what this sora no woto is going to be about. from limited reviews out there, i found out that this anime is likely to be about music too. if so, then the art style is going to fit well, no?
i mean, sora no woto surely won't be anything like Gundam or GitS or Code Geass or Death Note or anything out there where moeblob style absolutely won't fit in.
moeblob shit only fits with the shit in your heart Anon.
I'm going to read the manga and boycott the anime.
Well... apparently there is no manga. Well that makes it worse.
*sigh* the Anime seems good despite the blobified art. I'll watch this lovely poisoned flick.
I've become disgusted with moe-blob Otaku.
