Well this is embarassing because Tetsuya Nomura's all into being "fashionable" (note the FFXIII Versus contract with that expensive suit company) and people who live in Japan don't wear shimamura outside of their own homes.

It's an embarrassment for the character designer, because he can't come up with his own shit, instead hs bases his designs off existing ones.

Alodia, Kaname, Huangshan, the Tuxedo Team, Adella. They've all been seen live and they still look awesome.
I think the objection here is that Square Enix appears to have taken the cheap route and bought a bunch of clothes then sketched them rather than taking the time to create an original ensemble.
You know nothing about character design, putting crazy shit as much as you can on to
a design doesn't mean good design, this is a
simple, yet cute design that appeals to many.
It doesnt have to have layers and layers of
clothing with confusing etchings on to them
to look cool. imo, it would look overkill and
unappealing.
