K-ON!’s second favourite moe blob Yui Hirasawa celebrated her birthday on the 27th of November, or rather her legion of otaku followers celebrated it for her, complete with cake…

For some otaku it is apparently not an occasion for celebration:

    Psssst. It's called, "counterfeiting currency".

    You don't need 'leet engraving skills to do this, any more.

    Note, humans can survive with 2 meals a day, even one meals a day. Second note accompanying an anons comment, ramen IS dirt cheap, ranging at around 8 bucks for a box of 30 or so. now, going by the assumption that you have two meals a day, and only ramen, with 8 bucks you can eat for a month. If you have some money left over (which is unlikely, but just in case), invest in some vitamins or something. so in the end, 8x12=96, with around hundred dollars, you an live for an year.

    I think someone mixed up the term Otaku with Hikikomori.... Reason you see some of thoswe flahy otaku rooms are most likely due to the fact they are lonesome, unattractive men with rather decent paying jobs.. just not enough to attract the opposite sex.

    Or maybe they just think 2D >>> 3D and invest the money otherwise spent on a real gf on 2D materials.

    One will probably spend more on a real girlfriend than how much an otaku spends on his anime goods anyways.

    A distinctive characteristic of humans is the ability to move beyond what they can see and actually IMAGINE as well as communicate in symbols, with the latter being available for things that are not just language.

    If you don't like society's "program" (9-to-5 job, wife, kids, a mortgage, bowling on Friday nights, etc.), then don't sign up.

    While I was harassed (okay, revise that to "bullied") for being different as a kid, I don't get any flack for not joining "the program".

    Here are your keys to sanity:
    (1) If the people criticizing you are jerks and assholes, why would you respect their opinion? You wouldn't - therefore, you feel no pressure from them, despite what they may say.

    (2) Just because you respect someone doesn't mean they're always right. If they're wrong about something, they're wrong - that's all there is to it.

    Knowing they are wrong doesn't remove the pressure, but it gives you strength.

    My dad gave six-year-old-me a bucketload of criticism at the breakfast table one morning for wearing a bracelet ("Why are you wearing a bracelet? Do you want to be a girl?" etc...).

    Why was I wearing that? Because a female friend (vs "girlfriend") had given it to me, and that made it important to me. I knew from his attitude that any explanation would be rejected and/or ridiculed, so I kept my mouth shut and blew off what he was saying. I knew he was wrong, which made it possible for me to blow off what he was saying (though he made me very uncomfortable).

    Comment by Anonymous

    I disagree, saying nothing is just as wrong. I can't symphatize with you because I have never been bulliedb but if you let people step all over you then they will step on you. It's amazing how much good people will put up with so much abuse just to have some peace. However good people doing nothing is how bullies thrive. Bullies at my school (if there were any) ignored me not because I had herculean strenght but because they know I'm not afraid of them and that the'd have to kill me to make me obey them.

    You know, I remember when I feel in love with Sakura from Cardcaptors, the difference is, I was 10.

    And I never went as far as buying a cake. If japanese don't like their women, then perhaps suicide is the answer? I think we should just put the otaku down, it's for the best.

    Otaku people still work. It's the hikkikomori or NEETs that dont. Consumerism is a good thing economically speaking. As long as they don't rob people to buy otaku stuff I say it's alright.

    Except for the fact that drug abuse doesn't contribute to the economy, it contributes to criminal elements in society. You can't compare buying anime dvds to buying cocaine.

    What's with all the hate for hikikomoris and NEETs? They already opted not to associate themselves with society, yet you still pick on them. They have not done anything to harm you or the society you belong to, but you insist on putting them down.

    Unlike you, they are making a huge contribution on the success and continuity of the Japanese animation industry. That same industry which you weeaboos are continuously leeching off.

    You are just as primitive as femanazis are.

    Comment by Anonymous
    16:18 28/11/2009 # ! Bad (-0.1)

    Why the hate, you ask?

    It's because their own lives are so miserable, and their own personalities so twisted that the only way they can elevate their own opinion of themselves is by putting down other people.

    Kinda like what happened to Jews, gays, and Roms in Germany during WWII, and what happened to Japanese and Germans in the USA during WWII.

    "Those good-for-nothings! Get 'em guys!" (And after we mob them, let's take all their shit for good measure.)

    These days, in the U.S., at least, the politically-correct groups to hate are:
    * Smokers
    * Meat-eaters
    * SUV-owners
    * Nike

    Oh I'm sorry, I actually buy anime merchandise from a proxy but I'm not helping the industry because I'm not celebrating fictional characters birthdays and other stupid similar crap?

    Your an idiot, I'm as primitive as feminazis? I may complain about stupid people doing stupid things, so long as it hurts no one, I wont do anything about it.

    But I wont tip toe around it like people do with religion and ignore the fact that it's unhealthy, and IT IS.

    Imaginary relationships, this is acceptable as a child but as an adult? This is a mental issue that needs to be confronted and not just ignored.

    Oh but of course being being NEET isn't leeching? I'm sorry but if this is anime's target audience then it needs to be fixed.

    Some otaku are just fucking creepy.

    "Okay."
    (Each sets down their knife or DVD)

    You're on Sankaku Complex, all of you hypocrites saying how weird this is.

    Celebrating birthdays and holidays with specifically championed 2d girls (aka waifus) has been going on for years and years. True otaku already spend thousands on anime merchandise; what's the harm in getting like a little $10 cake or something to show how much you care about your waifu? This kind of stuff shows up on 2ch all the time.

    If you seriously don't get that people do this kind of stuff just for fun and to post online (or even fake-compete to see who treats their waifu the best), then you truly lack the understanding of otaku culture that I'd assume would be pre-requisite here, and have the all-clear to GTFO normalfags. You are not welcome here not because you are "normal", but because you refuse to even attempt to understand abnormal people, and yet think that running with the majority opinion is always the best idea. It's not, rather it's sheer idiocy and ignorance at its peak.

    seriously what is WRONG with celebrating an anime character's birthday??

    it's like people celebrating their anniversaries, they're all intangible things, and celebrating the anime character is more a symbol for celebrating the hard work/ good ideas/ effort put in to make the character that we all like!

    anyway, it's just putting a cake/snacks in front of a character's picture and taking a photograph, HOW BAD IS THAT?

    i'd do it and then EAT the cake i boughtXD no waste, little effort and NO BIG DEAL.

    haters shouldn't purposely come all the way here just to post belittling remarks, don't you feel bad for yourselves spreading the negativity that's growing in your heart? :) nvm, its okay we forgive you:D
