I always thought non-americans called us *insert insult here* americans. Also, I was taught there is north america and south america, you know 2 different continents, and since when do people say "I'm from *insert continent here*" most people say "I'm from *insert country here*" using a continent instead is too vague and pointless. Which usually leads to people being identified as whatever is the most well-known country of that continent which in turn pisses people off (Ex. New Zealander identified as Austrailian or Japanese identified as Chinese,) people don't like being identified as the wrong nationality so they say what country they are from you arrogant twat. So if you don't like being called american say you're canadian (the word america isn't in canadian) maybe you're just pissed that the U.S.A. is better than your country.

You forgot Central America, dumbass. And no, America is ONE single continent, not two (it's not a country either).

There are different models of dividing the continents, so maybe this is an issue of miscommunication. A lot of people learn the 7 continent model, which divides North and South America, meaning there is no one "American" continent. Aside from that, our full title is the United States of America, which is logically shortened to America. I'm sorry this bothers so many people. It seems quite trivial to me.

How is america one continent North and South America are barely even connected you twat (Panama is how small with a canal running through it) and central america is too small to be a continent where as North and South America are two different continents. If India is considered a sub-continent, which it is, North and South America are definitely separate continents. They are too large and barely connected, unless you're going to say Europe and Asia are one continent (which would be even more retarded) just STFU. I can break it down for you to understand NA (commonly used in every country) = North America. Meaning not south but North America as in two different continents. I'll give an example FF XIII NA/EU release date is 3/9/10 as in it won't be released in South America on 3/9/10 only the NA/EU is 3/9/10. Also, if you really want to say you're from the American continents say "I'm from the Americas." Not "I'm american ." U.S.A. stands for United States of AMERICA. So were are called americans.
