Nintendo didnt make it's characters based on any kind of market research :) and because when those other character designers tend to try and make "badass" character designs (as they usually tend to do), they almost always dont come out badass, just as stereotypes.

There's a reason why Nintendo holds the most recognizable and popular characters in the world as far as games go (and mario even beats mickey mouse in some polls that have been done).

it's just the way gamers think i guess.. whenever they see something like this, like a "best heroes of all time" list, they immediately think about who could win as far as killing each other goes, or who looks cooler. These people would make poor character designers, just like the majority of actual character designers out there, especially in video game development.

What I meant by saying ugly, is that they all look the same. Beacuse it's the easy way. No one has the balls now to create a plumber who eats pizza or a pink ball who sucks everything, and it's reasonable, partly, they don't want to take risks.

Anyway, whether they are ugly or not, what makes a hero a hero, is what they've done, and what most of these guys above have done is... Wait, what is it?
