Cuz that's how her parent's wanted it? Or that's how she writes her own name? Mio Ritsu Mugi and Yui write down their names in hiragana cuz they're just names, they don't really have meaning, although their last names do, which is very common in Japan. There ARE people whose last and first names have meaning. I dunno if Azusa has a meaning though... but its "lilly" in arabic.

This seems oddly realistic. I love it but I think Mio is more of a slender type but Tsumugi is much cuter with some meat. It also shows the effects of eating ten pounds of cake every day instead of practicing.
It turns out, in the dramatic conclusion to K-on!, that the entire series was about how five cute girls got fat by eating pounds of cake every day.
Except Yui who doesn't gain weight no matter how much she eats. This will cause the other girls to kill her out of jealousy.

Non-chronological? or KyoAni style Quality Assurance? This pic depicts Azusa in 1st year Class 2 with the rest of the cast with Yui as odd man out. Though the rest of the cast should be in 2nd year with Mio odd man out. Unless I missed something and Azusa isn't in fact a year younger and is actually a same age as the rest.
I think what i hate the most in the moe thing is not even how the characters behave like retards but how high school girls look like they are 10 years old.

As a teenage girl, I think the realistic proportions are refreshing to see. Yui and Ritsu's bodies are really the only ones that aren't quite right. The torsos are a tad too long and the legs a tad too short. I'd say Azu-nyan's body is my favorite.

Lol, what are you guys saying?! Chubby this, short-legged that. Their women and therefore its ideal that they have wide hips (wider than shoulder length) and display youthfulness. And the length of their legs are fine. That said, sukumizu is definitely an imotou item, which is why Azusa looks best of the group in this picture. Try bikinis and the result will surely be different.

Wow, big props for realism. None of the girls are fat, but even normal sized girls who wear swim suits like that usually look heavier. They're much better suited for little kids or real petite stick figures. But still, nice to see an anime girl who looks human AND cute.

uhhh... i know this thing is "blobbed" in some ways, but i find it somewhat very realistic compared to most art styles out there.
honestly when i saw most japanese girls, i've always been thinking "where are the long legs, slim figure etc? those animes are all lies"
and now this: the big boobed ones are somewhat fatter, shorter legs, less voluptuous figures etc. from the view of body proportion, i think this style is quite good. ah, of course the fingers are still total goddamn failure, as always, as expected from horiguchi yukiko.
