Just how much of the superb cosplay turned out by the likes of Kipi is due to liberal usage of Photoshop? And can such manipulation allow even the most ugly or inept of cosplayers to emerge as colourful cosplay butterflies?

Although obviously intended as a rebuke to cosplayers who are dependent on heavy Photoshop to achieve their looks, those who are fans of Kipi and company can at least rest easy knowing that video or third party photographed appearances do demonstrate the Photoshops are not entirely fanciful…

Maybe I'm a little biased since I do it, but a little color and spot correction certainly shouldn't be a big deal.

Actually you can do the pretty same with fake lashes and circle lens, that is what kipi always does so that she doesn't need to use photoshop. Also it doesn't costs any time.

There is no need for photoshop. Ok she might does it for the color of the eyes inside but that's because she can't have the color of every character and i see nothing wrong with her natural color.

I sort of don't get it, unless he's somehow trying to prove that all Kipi pics are Photoshopped. Somehow I don't see why anyone would go through all the trouble to Photoshop THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of pictures. (Including pictures from multiple sources, such as camera phones etc.) Even the "official" shoots have dozens of pics each. I have 2633 pictures, and honestly it never seemed to me there would be such a heavy use of 'shopping.

photoshop or not kipi is still probably the best cosplayer around. about 80% of the photoshop is working on the eyes, which is understandable since eyes are important, like in manga and anime tho I think the dude kinda went overboard with the eyelashes thing...

Shopped, not shopped, they're pretty either way. Photoshopping is just putting makeup on a photo. The photos of her DO look a little shopped to me (Note: This isn't to say 'ZOMG ZEY R SHOPPED LAIER!', simply that to my untrained and uncaring eye they appear to have minor modifications), and if they aren't? Congratulations to her. It doesn't change my thoughts on her photos seeing as how the photos I've seen have an 'in character' quality to whatever she's cosplaying, the costumes are good, and her body type fits the image of the character. The ability to pull of the costume is what matters (to me, at least) in cosplay, not minor blemishes or the amusing practice of making eyes bigger.

News flash. 90% of all promotional photos, such as portraits were retouched/enhanced before photoshop. Now its up to 99.9%. All photoshop did was make it easier to do. Before it was almost exclusively for Hollywood. Now everyone with a month of photoshop practice can do so.
Even working with film it was "easy" to remove imperfections. The eyelashes is why you'd normally hire a makeup artist. Saves you from adding eyelashes to every image you want to use. Good makeup CAN enhance bone structure. Add high cheekbones for a photo. etc...
PS. Photos CAN be used as evidence. They can check if a photo has been altered or not. There are even cameras made for law enforcement which has a system to check if the file has been altered.

i think the "initial photo" looked fake too. theoretically it could have been altered to ephasize the difference the eye size and shape. who's to say it wasn't made smaller then just brought back up to size later in this video. afterall, where would someone get uncut/edited pictures like that? i really don't give a shit either way, but i don't like the idea of someone's solid proof being the same thing as that which they are trying do disprove. She doesn't use photoshop, you can see that if you open her photos in a HEX viewer where you can still find at every photo the stamp that a photo gets if it is a raw file made by a cam.

That video is fake. The guy there photoshopped the photo at the beginning to make Kipi look ugly, then photoshopped it again. That's why the photo doesn't look like the original one he shopped first.
Plus Kipi doesn't have that big eyes, her eyes are normal and she wears circle lenses, mascara and eyeliner to make them look bigger.

The video seems like wayyy too much effort was invested by someone with wayyy too little skill. A lot of the effects used can be achieved just by make-up alone.
I have to wonder about their motive in uploading this video. It disturbingly reminds me of a certain Negima doujin series by STUDIO KIMIGABUCHI where Asuna was getting more popular in ranking than the net idol girl (forgot her name already OTL) and made her even more desperate to ruin Asuna's good name - in the end she has a complete nervous breakdown including several identity crises, and battered several people into hospital.

Video is fake. Original photo was shooped anyhows. a Raw pictures does not look like that.
I am a cosplayer that uses the same brand of contact lens as Kipi, and they do turn out the "circle" way in photos. They are also slightly bigger than the diameter of your eyes, so it makes your eyes look bigger (this is fairly popular in korea). The use of makeup and eyeliner also gives the "illusion" of bigger eyes
I'm not sure how many people outside of the photography or cosplay community know, but there is raw files and processing for photos, which is not airbrushing (I post process my photos through raw). It enhances the colour, lighting etc, and unlike airbrushing, there is not a loss of detail. When airbrushed, people tend to shop out any sort of imperfections and make themselves thinner etc (Like Arisa) but you can tell, from the improportionate photos, the fake "blurring" result from airbrushing (which you can tell from the video) but does not apply to the rest of her photos which are so high in detail . If you look closely, Sometimes you can still see hints of her moles that are not covered entirely through makeup in some photo sets. If people say they can use sharpening, sharpening does not always work that well.
And yes, there are normal videos of her talking and photo pictures AND pictures from other photographers/sites and she looks completely the same, and cosplay makeup etc. so there's really no point for this massive shopfest?

I use Photoshop for a living and I can tell you this shopper is actually quite amateurish. The biggest fuck up was to alter the eye shape so much that the irises weren't perectly round anymore, dead giveaway of a shop. Also he seems not to know that a very important part of eye-enhancing is to make brighter the white of the eyes. 5/10

I was well aware of the omnipotence of the Photoshop, and how it virtually transformed every fugly camwhore to somewhat real-world incarnation of 2D beauties. But this is my first time of watching a girl re-hashed, and that is beyond imagination.
For anyone that uses photoshop prodigiously for any purpose, it still was an interesting video from a technical standpoint.
Although really any of the effects done in this video can be done with make up and a person that's not a retard. How the 'shopping was dugh was really interesting for me to watch. Copy a few techniques and whatnot for other pictures I work on.
