Bakemonogatari Best Selling TV Anime Blu-ray Ever

The Blu-ray edition of Bakemonogatari’s second volume has sold in excess of 39,000 copies, making it the best selling Blu-ray TV anime ever, and the second best selling Blu-ray anime of all time, easily beating K-ON! and only surpassed by Evangelion 1.11.
Including normal DVD sales of 18,731, the volume has managed a staggering 58,000 copies sold. The first volume, which itself managed at least 56,000 copies, seems only to have whetted the appetites of fans…
Shaft, already rather notorious for airing incomplete episodes of the series, has made good its implied promises of a completed DVD release – below you can see a comparison of the two editons, with the BD/DVD version on the left:

Of course Bakemonogatari deserves to achieved this record (and I'm damn happy for it) but... seriously, these "Haha! Now take that, *name of anime/characters that scored the 2nd place* !!" kind of comments are really getting old and annoying. It's like a poor homeless hobo going to Donald Trump and tell him that Bill Gates is richer than him.
Agreed, the sales is a おつかれさま to Shaft for a job well done. And Bakemonogatari might have won by default, if it wasn't for E8 it probably wouldn't be selling quite as well.
I'd have to disagree with that. Even without E8 Bakemonogatari is tons better than Haruhi. Bakemonogatari is a show that I end up anticipating each week while Haruhi season 1 is just one of the shows I watched and never really impressed me that much.
That wasn't quite what I meant. Of course Bakemonogatari is so much better than Haruhi its an insult to put them in the same sentence (oops). I was thinking of the sheer fanboy inertia that the Haruhi juggernaut had pre-E8. If Haruhi's second season had been halfway decent Bakemonogatari would have had a fight on its hands for top spot.
The charm of Bakemonogatari really stuck me in ep 3, I've never been so interested in two people sitting in a park talking. In contrast E8 had me writhing in misery by ep 3.
This anime is entertaining and fun, but god damn the fanbase is retarded.

Bakemonogatari is one of the best animes I've seen this year in terms of being a short story anime. I hope there's a season 2. and I can't find the rest of the episodes, they stop airing them or something?

I already know Im alone in this, but I didnt like this anime at all. Sure it looks great but the dialogue is complex just for the sake of being so. Its ridiculously over the top for no good reason than people being able to feel good about themselves for sitting through highbrow anime dialogue.
I had to call it quits when I watched an episode that comprised of a playground setting and the two main characters talking nonsense nonstop for 30 minutes. Some people may call it witty, enthralling, creative, breathtaking humor, but I call it boring.

Euh? The dialogues are hardly complex or highbrow. They're just long.
The most important part is how they used these long dialogues as banters and conversations. One of the greater joys of this series is how the characters interact with each other.

Worst anime I have seen this year so far. Endless Eight was ultra boring,but this on that other hand could have been good if it wasn't ruined by all that abstract random stuff in it, so it even made me angry. What's up with showing an empty black screen with "Black" written on it or similar stuff like that about 30 times in an episode? And seeing the same director ruined multiple anime the same way, I'd say if you didn't like his previous works, stay away from this as well. It's a lot worse than those were.
(No, I don't like "art" like this. I prefer normal anime, thank you very much. Stop ruining them with this insane style, go and do it on something else. If I want to see art of this kind, I'll go to a modern museum or something, I don't want it in my anime.)

Wait, did you write this comment without even reading the whole article or at least look at the comparison pics? You might also need to be aware about Shaft's problem when they were working for the TV release.

I have to say, I prefer the tv version in some of the pictures over the dvd version.
i also heard that they aren't broadcasting ep 13 ~ 15 on TV, but only streaming is offered on the official website, or else DVD/Blu-Ray, and [gg] has subbed ep 13, i was watching it just an hour ago.

They changed some of the close-ups and made it far-distance. Not sure of the relevance of such a thing. Not to mention some of the new backgrounds still look cg animated...

But why did they change the date of mothers day from 10 (tv) to 14 (bd).. i checked wikipedia, japan celebrate mothers day in 5/10.. hmmm..
because the anime should be set in 2006, whereis may 10 is wednesday, yet they mistakenly set it in 2009, in which may 10 is sunday. thus they change it to may 14, which is sunday in 2006.
