Visual Arts isn't really a company per se, but is kind of like a circle made up of three companies. Key, RAM, and one other one I think. Of course, Key largely overshadows both of the other two so you don't hear much of them. Hell, RAM had a several years long hiatus and only recently released another game from them called 5. I guess the Visual Arts shares labour and stuff, since Maeda Jun helped work on the soundtrack for 5 even though he's usually associated with Key. On a side note, 5 isn't too bad. It's the only game that 'almost' turned me into a siscon.

K-ON is one of the many overrated shit this decade. That, and along with Haruhi, Lucky Star, Bakemono, and whatever other moe show that was famous.

Your point doesn't make any sense. They're not voting for shows, they're voting for CHARACTERS. Even if the show sucks (or so you think), that doesn't make the characters suck (or so they think).

and in before "crappy shows can't have good characters" : Lucky Star. Characters are awesome, but despite being a Lucky Star fanboy myself I can name many shows of this kind waaaaaaaay funnier than it (and K-on is one of them, actually)

Um, yeeee...you see, the thing is, while Rena and Rika are awesome characters, the drawings in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel are rather bad, and the creators themselves even said so, which is why they have dubbed it a "Sound Novel" rather than a "Visual Novel". as the focus is more on sound. And as you know, with the lack of eye-candy, female characters will not get the fame and attention they deserve. It's sad, but true. I bet Rena and Rika got alot more popular after the anime and manga adaptions came out.
