You guys do realize that he said it was conspicuously incongruous that they were on the list with all the eroge people. That means that's kinda weird (and that k-on ISN'T an eroge) so he's not taking shots at k-on unless you think it is an eroge.
Tamaki ranking #9 is a travesty, Kyou missing form the list is a fucking tragedy.
Actually, since Clannad isn't an eroge, Kyou shouldn't be on the list, and neither should Nagisa. Same goes for the K-on! girls. It is indeed weird.

It is not an eroge because it doesn't contain any hentai, ecchi content/scenes, or even any fan service(except one scene I think). It is a visual novel, but not an eroge. And while it is a popular misunderstanding among those who know little about the genre, not all visual novels are eroge. There are plenty others that aren't.

Yes, and that is because they don't know better, and/or because it sells. I don't care what how many otaku use the term, or if developers misuse it and call visual novels eroge, it's still a fact that they aren't, and Clannad isn't an eroge either. You can look the term up on Wikipedia if you want, and you'l see.

Damn, I must be tired. What I meant was that not ALL visual novels are eroge, even if most are, and Clannad isn't one of them.
hoh. otaku know full well how to use the term. There is just no double standard that seems to be so misunderstood in the west. In the english vn community, it seems that eroge equates directly to game with ero content, while everything else is vn, no? This makes little sense. Take LB for example. Released all ages-->LBEX 18+. Does this mean LB is not an eroge while LBEX is? LBEX was the exact same as LB with exception of ero and new routes. What about all the all ages console ports of various eroges? Or even look at minori's eden. I still consider it an eroge, with or without the 18+ mosaic patch, because for all intents it is. I'm sure most eroge otaku agree. For the most part, 18+ and all ages eroge are the exact same, save for hardcore eroge, such as atelier kaguya stuff,norn stuff,etc. eroge more refers to the gameplay/format than to ero content. eroge usually contains ero, but it isn't a must.
There are these things called dictionaries. Read them.
bishoujo games, eroge, galge, visual novels, etc etc.
They all have their own meanings and etymology. Use overlaps just like tags because they contain similar but differing aspects (whether they be thematic/content, purpose, target audience, etc etc).
That being said. The readers of Dengeki G's are by the majority GALGE players. It's about the GIRLS not the ero (ever wonder what the G stands for?). The reason why k-on is in the list, is because Dengeki G's caters across the board Anime, Games and Manga.
Long story short. The list was never called 'Top 10 Eroge caracters'. It's the same old character (medium unspecified) ranking list they have in their magazine every month (voted by the readers) which hardly ever changes.
There are these things called eroge. Play them. :3. There is a difference in reading wiki entries of bishoujo games, eroge, galge, visual novels, etc etc. and actually playing them. What is in the dictionary as a definition doesn't always match up with its actual usage. And yes the meanings overlap, but the english vn community needs to stick with 1 term. Like visual novel. That's fine. None of this switching back and forth of terms because a dictionary/wiki entry said so. Companies, eroge vets, vendors, don't differentiate. It is eroge. They always clump all ages and 18+ versions of eroge together, because they are eroge. Check getchu and the like. The confusion over eroge in the west is quite amusing.
And yes, you are correct about the list being a character popularity contest.

Huh I feel like lucky star will outlast K-ON, and I think Lucky Star runs on its own merit greater then just moe. I feel the psychology of Konata runs the show. The way her mind works around her friends is very similar to the mentality I had around my friends back when I was in highschool. I feel that the series offers a lot more to otaku then moe and I hope and believe that It will keep its mark in anime history, and not be judged on its moetasticness alone.
It's not lucky star 2.0, its not as funny or memorable as lucky star, on the other hand I appreciate the hot girls for a change.

Oddly enough, even though I couldn't stand watching Lucky Star, I still like the fandom that surrounds it (mainly Nico MADs).
To be honest, despite being a fan of K-on!, don't ever compare it with Lucky Star. Lucky Star is one of the fewest anime that actually made me realize that watching random stuffs that i did in RL animated is extremely hilarious in a priceless way..
So in other words, fans of K-on just spam their favourite characters everywhere if there is at least some kind of competition, fitted the subject or not... That's actually pretty sad.

Go and read about it on Wiki, and you'l see. And at that note, as Ayu is suggesting without saying it directly, the Clannad characters(in this case Nagisa),shouldn't even be on the list.

Rance is the main character in the game series made by AliceSoft. I only played Sengoku Rance, and.. It's a superb.
He's a rapist, abuser, evil, crazy for women, but super strong~ The best main character amongst all eroge I have played.

I'd love to see a Little Busters anime too, but I don't know, I don't want to see it get fucked up by bad episode planning and timing like they did with Clannad. Plus I'm pretty sure the usual 24 episodes a popular series gets will be enough to cover all of the stories in Little Busters AND the Refrain. Not to mention Saya.

Who said I'm dissing Clannad? It's just that in the original Clannad they couldn't time the character stories they ended up having to remove one character story altogether (Kyou)and cut another one's (Tomoyo's) short. To make ends meet they had that awful tennis court scene where Tomoya rejected all the other heroines at once for Nagisa. I'd rather have Little Busters saved from this kind of butchery.

Yeah, I think it's probably worth mentioning for the unaware that this isn't some special survey -- it appears every month in Dengeki G's, and is just a generic "favourite heroine" poll. Doesn't have to be from any particular type of property. (And the fans of certain franchises tend to rally to keep their favourite heroines in the rankings, so it's probably not exactly to be trusted. That and franchises like Da Capo and Little Busters have had manga run in the magazine, so they're perennial favourites among readers.)

If only I could find a place near me that sold the Dengeki Hime magazine. I only have like one issue of it and I bought that at a convention. I want to be able to just go buy a magazine in update myself on the latest eroge instead of having to hunt the internet for information. Well least I can still go buy the Dengeki G's... (the November issue came with this awesome mini alarm clock of Saya ^^. If only I knew what battery size it uses...)
For what it's worth, that mini alarm clock included in Dengeki G's comes with a battery, but I want to say it's probably a CR1025. The clock certainly is a pretty unique pack-in, anyway. :)
And yeah, even on the Internet, Dengeki Hime is a bit of a pain to collect... but well worth it to keep track of what's out there.

Your point doesn't make any sense. They're not voting for shows, they're voting for CHARACTERS. Even if the show sucks (or so you think), that doesn't make the characters suck (or so they think).
and in before "crappy shows can't have good characters" : Lucky Star. Characters are awesome, but despite being a Lucky Star fanboy myself I can name many shows of this kind waaaaaaaay funnier than it (and K-on is one of them, actually)
K-ON is one of the many overrated shit this decade. That, and along with Haruhi, Lucky Star, Bakemono, and whatever other moe show that was famous.
again, you're talking about overrated show when K-on is all about its characters. Unless you're implying that Mio, Yui, Ritsu, Mugi and ultimately moe Azunyan are overrated characters.
As for the show itself (and the ones you mentionned), you need to realize someday that some people has given up on robot/ninja/fighting/(supposedly) "OMFG AWESOME PLOT" anime, and that they prefer having nice time watching soothing slice-of-life shows with light humor and service (and very light plot sometimes, but rarely)
well, when you'll be in your 20's you'll eventually get it
Just go watch Naruto, which is still running. You'l get more than enough ninja and fighting, and a really deep, complicated plot(before you protest, make sure you watch far out in the series. the story gets quite epic towards the end of Shippuuden).
Yea, but half of the episodes are still filler. And they butchered the plot from the manga. Plus, not much development, Characters seem way too superficial. It also creates a bad image of anime as a whole, which is probrately Naruto's greatest impact

Also if this list includes visual novels in general and not just eroge, a lack of either Rena Ryuugu or Rika Furude saddens me.
Um, yeeee...you see, the thing is, while Rena and Rika are awesome characters, the drawings in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel are rather bad, and the creators themselves even said so, which is why they have dubbed it a "Sound Novel" rather than a "Visual Novel". as the focus is more on sound. And as you know, with the lack of eye-candy, female characters will not get the fame and attention they deserve. It's sad, but true. I bet Rena and Rika got alot more popular after the anime and manga adaptions came out.

Visual Arts isn't really a company per se, but is kind of like a circle made up of three companies. Key, RAM, and one other one I think. Of course, Key largely overshadows both of the other two so you don't hear much of them. Hell, RAM had a several years long hiatus and only recently released another game from them called 5. I guess the Visual Arts shares labour and stuff, since Maeda Jun helped work on the soundtrack for 5 even though he's usually associated with Key. On a side note, 5 isn't too bad. It's the only game that 'almost' turned me into a siscon.
Scratch that about there being just 3 companies. I did some research (the japanese wiki) and turns out a LOT of companies make up Visual Arts. But Key is still pretty much one of it's biggest names.
