Well shows what the current popular opinions is. And in those regards its very accurate. As far 2009 goes. But since it is titled without a time frame in mind it leads one to think that it should be an all time top ten and in that it fails to show truth.
Personally I quit subscribing to Megami even though its worth the overseas subscription for that art. All of soon becomes available in the form of scans anyway, which take up less physical space in the form of hard drives leaving more room space for true otaku items, figures.
I stopped reading after seeing #1.

K-On!'s showing was expected with it recent-ness.
Hinagiku is a good choice (Hell, ANY female char except Nagi from HnG woulda been a good choice to me. Though I'm mildly surprised Isumi didn't make the cut...)
I can't comment on Horo, as I haven't watched that series, but judging from Sankaku articles, she's fairly popular (both in the US and JPN).
Seitokai...How the hell did this show up already? While it worth a couple laughs, it's hardly worth a mention on a Top Ten list (but for the record, I woulda prefer Chizuru over Kurimu).
Nanoha's Chars are still alive...I love them, but didn't expect to see a showing here (StrikerS sucked compared to S1 and A's, plus it's been a while since the last airing.) Then again, as another poster mentioned, Megami does do A LOT with Nanoha, especially with the Movie coming out in Jan.
No surprise with Mikoto..Though way is is so low in the rankings?

Seitokai no Ichizon doesn't even make top 10 best fall anime yet someone from it beats the likes of BiriBiri and Senjougahara, makes no sense to me. Glad to see Horo in there though.

I have no idea how Kurumu from Seitokai got into that list. Seitokai, although not that bad of a show is just Lucky Star with less substances and more otaku references. Characters like Kiragi and Konata are much more interesting "otaku" characters thank Kurumu.
Apart from that, I can understand why the other characters are in it. Never watched Saki myself, but I do know its popular. Same deal with Mikoto - seen part of Index, haven't started Railgun.
Personally, the only two characters from that list that I like are Horo and Senjougahara because they they are playful, teaseful, witty and funny.
Characters that I don't like are Mio, Yui and Kurumu because they are just moeblob with no other redeeming qualities.
Most of these characters are interchangeable moe, that don't hold a candle to classic characters like Lum, Nadia, etc.
But this is a chart by Megami, not a magazine for last year broads.

Not caring for the rankings, I agree with the list as most of them are characters I like.
Half of the characters on this list are one-dimensional moeblobs. I should've stopped reading when I saw Mio at number 1.

Well, I've been reading Megami, and I'd kinda expected these sort of results should a poll like this ever happen.
Long story short, Megami is just a magazine full of bathing scenes, oppai, close-to-nipple-slip moments, etc.

Shurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari would kick most of these girl assess and all the other suggestion on the comments... heck, a lot of girls from shoujo/josei category is better in terms of depth.... But complaining about whether your favorite isn't in the list or isn't high enough thus make the ranking invalid is stupid. People just have to acknowledge that there are others with different taste than you. Obviously from the list people should know that moe rates high on the list... the fact that Hitagi and Horo can make into the top 10 is commendable. Would I like to see Horo and Hitagi higher? of course! but the list itself is fine the way it is (barring any cheating of course).
Kurimu inclusion is kinda surprising though, not because she didn't deserve it (considering the audience) but more because it's from a completely new anime compared to other characters on the list.

I see people are still bashing K-On! and the likes, and I still can't understand why does it bother others so much that they are ranked higher on lists. This simply shows what the majority of people (who were asked) like, and it's not like it has anything to do with your personal likes. People raging over the list are immature, and I think they know why.
If something has a high place on a list, it probably deserves to be there (in some way).

Any list for top characters is void. Everyone has different tastes, and I think it's obvious what Megami's taste is. This shouldn't be called a top 10 anime characters list, it should just be called Megami's top 10 favorite anime characters.
Is this only for recent anime? If so then I can't complain too much, except that Biribiri and Senjougahara should be much higher.

I have to say this is the most disappointing list I’ve seen! Nothing wrong with K-ON! on the top, to be honest I expected it, but DEFINITELY NOT over Hitagi! In fact, as much love as I have for Mio and Yui I would not have put them above Hitagi or Horo.
I’ve never really been a fan of Nanoha or Fate so I wouldn’t have put them anywhere near the list. And if this list really is only for 2009 then I’d leave Hinagiku and Saki on there, bump BiriBiri up a lot, drop Kurimu Sakurano, add Mugi, Ritsu, and Saki Morimi and call it a day.

I haven’t watched Nanoha, so I don’t know or care when it came out, you can hardly call someone dumb simply because they don’t know something they don’t know.
And as far as this being a strictly 2009 poll, well those are just words you put in my mouth. I said IF this poll was for 2009 since everything on here is from 2009 with the apparent exception of Nanoha. After reading several posts with comments saying this is/IF this were a 2009 poll, so I simply adjusted the list to my likings based off whichever characters came out in 2009 I thought were the best.
Jumping the gun and being too eager to troll on whatever post you disagree with without properly reading it first is far dumber than any brink I can imagine.

That wasn't the point. You're trying to justify Fate and Nanoha shouldn't be on the list, when you don't even know them. Watch first, then come to a conclusion. Have you watched already watched and were wondering if this was a strictly 2009 poll, then you would be dumb as bricks. As I'de imagine you'de know the the most recent series came out in 2007.
I already said I haven’t watched Nanoha, if you’re going to comment on my post at least read it first. I wasn’t trying to justify that Fate and Nanoha shouldn’t be on the list; I simply made a comment saying that I wouldn’t have put them on the list, it ended at that. You don’t have to watch a whole series or know everything about a series to know about a character from the series. I’m familiar with the characters Fate and Nanoha but as far as 2D designs or personality go I wasn’t really sold. They’re cute no doubt, but just averagely cute, and it’ll take a lot more than just being averagely cute to make a top 10 list in my book.
And since I haven’t watched the series Nanoha or kept up on it for that matter I had no idea when the last season came out. It could’ve been 2009, so I hypothetically said that if this were a 2009 poll (dot, dot, dot) and then went on with my version of the list including my favorite characters from 2009, whether or not Nanoha came out in 2009 didn’t matter. My reason for excluding them wasn’t “justified” by claiming this to be a “strictly 2009 poll” that's just something you made up.
I'm glad that Fate and Nanoha are still so popular even after their shows have been out of spotlight for so long. Other than those two, every other one in the top 10 is from a new(er) show.

Assuming a characters worth based on their appearance, doesn't work on a favorite character poll. They don't have a large following for nothing, especially when they don't even come from a massively popular series like most other characters on that list. You wouldn't understand what people like about them until you watch the series for itself.

True, you're free to make any choice you want, but that doesn't make them right. Sorry, if you did not watch the series, then you can't make a fair assessment of the character. Like it or not, It's true. They're not anywhere near your favorite character because you don't know them, not because they don't appeal to you. However, if you had some facts about the characters via. watching the series, and came to the same conclusion, I would have absolutely no problem with your opinion. But as it stands, I think It's a joke to not like a character based on the few things you know about them. How can you say you "know" their personality, when you don't even know the series.

I didn’t even say the list “could be” I simply didn’t feel like prioritizing ALL of my favorite anime characters, so I thought I’d make it easier on myself by narrowing it down to just the ones of 2009, since most of the list was 2009 and I did agree with most of the characters on there just not the position they were in. So that’s when I made the mistake of saying “IF” this were a 2009 list, as in hypothetically making this list 2009, as in not really but let’s make it one anyways, as in my list with my favorite characters on it now.
As a closing comment: I have read many blogs, reviews, and comments regarding Nanoha when it was out and stuff, I even seen small clips and AMVs. But nothing that I saw or read really compelled me to go watch a whole episode. I felt I knew enough about the show and characters to determine if I wanted to watch an episode or not. A few times in the past I had gotten into an anime simply because I read a review or blog and decided to follow up with YouTube videos. Elfen Lied, Elemental Gelade, When They Cry, Shana, these are all show I knew nothing about prior to Googleing. And after reading about the shows I decided to put them on my Netflix queue, I now own them all. It’s just a way that works for me and nobody else has to like it.

In my honest opinion, disliking a character before you get to know them totally lacks reason. Knowing them through other peoples opinion and the few AMV's you watched doesn't cut it. Whether or not the anime appeals to you should have no barring on the characters to begin with, not that you'de truly know whether or not it lacks appeal for you until you give it a chance. You gave the characters, and the series zero chance. Unless you're appaled my magical girls, I honestly don't see what you find appealing to the series you mentioned, that is lacking in the Nanoha series. You clearly enjoy action, and the second season has more action in it to put most series to shame. And perhaps you didn't watch well made amv's. Give "Lyrical on Fire" and "Ressonance" a try. I honestly don't give a crap whether or not you watch it, however, It's really annoying to hear "so and so" is crap when you never did experience the series or It's characters for yourself.
