CLANNAD is a game, but Yume Miru Kusuri is not? I have nothing else to say, FAIL.
While YMK was a good game, compared to the other eroge that's actually out there, it's not as tear-jerking as you think. While it certainly had excellent drama (like that moonlight rooftop Aeka scene) I think it also fails in terms of popularity compared to other more well-known tear-jerkers like Clannad.
Clannad wasn't a eroge btw.

This, Kana made me cry far more than FFX and FFVII.

Admittedly I was young when I played it, but FF7 is the only game to have made me cry. Agreed about Key though, I want to play the air visual novel after watching the anime and movie. Air is the only tv show to almost make me cry, for those who aren't fans of Key, begin your obsession with it ASAP, you won't regret it (until you are crying lol)

I know Clannad isn't an eroge (the only Key game that isn't now that I think about it other than something short like Planetarian), that's why I just said it's a tear-jerker.

I fricking fell asleep throughout the time I played Final Fantasy 7, wonder why it is so damn popular. With an emotic story which includes a stupid main character going into depression because his memories are altered.
IMO the Suikoden Series deserve more praise than final fantasy fricking 7.

Indeed, Earthbound was more like a "WOAH, YEAH, AWESOME" game for me.
The tearjerking came from the mentally scarring Giygas fight.
I really have to play EarthBound, i've been pushing it aside for to long now.
It's an amazing game. Pretty funny, but I didn't find it sad.
If anything Mother 3 (Earthbound 2 ) should be there instead seeing how I heard it's ending is pretty sad.

I totally agree. FF7 had way more sad moments taht FFX. But most of all I don't get it why Kana Little Sister isn't mentioned.

Hahaha, that's a good one. Srsly FFX is a very good game, but way overrated compared to 7 & 8.
FF7 & FF8 are two of my all time favorite games, and maybe it's because of that standard that FFX wasn't so spectacular (still good though).
For those of us with PSP, play Crisis Core right to the end, another tear-jerking ending. Crisis Core has got to be the best Final Fantasy since FF8 in my opinion. (for story that it, which is what is really important)
FF VII's tear-jerker parts were admittedly okay....
I also shed some manly tears while playing the end of Super Metroid, when the baby Metroid (now a big metroid) sacrifices itself to help replenish Samus. The asskickery which followed helped heal the hurt a bit.
you got to think about it for a second. what kind of people like ffx. pussies. and since they are pussies they are bound to cry like babies at the stupidest things. for example, when tidus goes to the other world for the first time and can't go back home. all the titty babies and momma's boys broke out in tears at the mear thought of an adventure. that is my analysis.

Yeah Kanon is pretty good too. If only Jun Maeda had a hand in it too. If you're familiar with Key then you should also be familiar with the 'Maeda magic' effect. He justs adds a special something to the games he works on.
Of course. Kannon had multiple arcs all with bawwwing moments. Clannad was MUCH more lighthearted, until the very end.
I still liked Clannad better due to how the story was presented.

yeah I guess one of the reasons why people are in tears is because they spend most of their hours leveling aerith and she died on them.
Am I the only one who celebrated when that fugly bitch Aerith died? I never used her and hated her from the start so when Sephiroth impaled the bitch I cheered him on unfortunately I was hoping a boss battle after the cut scene that never happens. I wanted Barett and Cait Sith dead too.

In my opinion Galuf's end in FF5 was more tear jerking than Aerith's Death. The only reason I cry over FFVII is because it's my second least favourite final fantasy (Final Fantasy 2 is hard to beat for that title), but that's another matter.

i was more shocked by lavitz's death in legend of dragoon actually,and it wasn't THAT big..
same for FFX,the only scene that i find to be sad is during the al-bhed home assault,when tidus learn the truth about summoner.

I have to agree. Tales of the Abyss made me cry for some time because of the sad truth and situations Luke has to endure.

Tales of the Abyss was a bit grim, but if I was a bit more emotional, I might have cried for some of the characters. I usually just end up getting angry at some of the things that happen, particularly with the God-Generals. They really played that death card in Tales of the Abyss....
Yeah, I just loved how unlike the goody-2-shoes characters Bamco usually offer, Luke came off as a Tsundere jerk, but changed( even though he was as emo as Cloud while in short hair mode)and succeded in saving the world by himself. YES!!! By himself, then come back to hump Tears.
Seriously, Yuri was cool and all but I would rather have another guy like Luke or Emil( well, if he was less of a pussy like green-eyed Emil) in my Tales game any day since that would make the story more interesting, and please Bamco, spare me the dumb generic Lloyd character please, even Zelos is better than him as MC, and Regal is the BEST.CHARACTER.EVER!!!

Ryu ga gotoku kenzan had one of the best tear jerking ending I've seen in a long while, that gets my vote.

I definitely agree. The whole thing was an example of what they COULD'VE done to make the game cool, but just about everything they tried to do fell flat, especially the overall length of the storyline. Made no sense it 80% of it was a bunch of unexplained jargon and "Okay, raise your hand if you really fucking care!" moments.

The only game I ever cried while playing was Phantom Brave. When you have a sweet girl who is treated like absolute shit every step of the game, it makes you feel absolutely awful. And when she finally makes her first actual friend with a terminally ill girl, I actually started to cry. Great game that was terribly overlooked.
The ending was sad too...but at least everything ended in a good way.

Anyways it used to be popular to kill off characters.
They did it in Eternal Sonata, but the character they killed was so incredibly underdeveloped that her death scene was just kind of like, "Oh okay, stop talking. We get it. You loved him. Cutscene over...PLEASE...." Pff. Claves...>.>

Hmmm, I would probably rate Clannad higher than FFX. I don't know, FFX was sad alright at the ending, but Clannad had so many moments where it makes you wanna cry. -Sigh- I need to find one anime that can make me cry. Clannad was almost there, but it wasn't enough...
The only time a game made cry was when I beat Kingdom Hearts then it wouldn't let me save and there wasn't a new game+ I got every fucking thing 100% yet no reward nothing. It just goes to a static image after the credits and movie. I tried everything it wouldn't change and reloaded my game and beat Ansem again but THE SAME SCREEN I WAS PISSED OFF TO TEARS

I definitely agree w/ clannad being there. I'm not so sure about FFX. It was kind of sad I guess. I laugh at aerith's death. Good riddance. She was weak and I'm a cloti shipper anyway. Besides, aerith's death means she gets to be w/ Zack. Now crisis core, there was a good tear jerker. That should be on the list. Though I'm not sure if it's counted in w/ VII.

Chrono Trigger isn't that sad IMO, however some of the scenes in FFVI really do get me, especially the suicide scene.
I'll admit that in the Japanese dub FFX was fairly sad, however I remember playing it first in the English toilet soil of a dub, so I can't really see it as sad anymore, simply laughable.
Mother 3 not being on the list really surprises me. FFVI I'd also include, as well as Terranigma and maybe Megaman X3, but only because I can't think of a 5th game. But I guess I'm not the majority of Japanese gamers. CLANNAD however is a deserved top 5, and the only one on that list I agree with.

Xenogears. There's a point where you go to a floating city with an ancient ruin of a town on it. You've just recently met the angry little orphan girl pilot who lives there. A sad instrumental plays in the background, like a music box. While searching the ruins, you do the typical item looting that is so tried and true in RPGs. In the ruins you find a doll amongst the ruins, and the game prompts you to take: "A child's precious memory... I can't take this." It really tugs on your heartstrings.

It's an embarrassing admission to make, but the significant omission from this list, to me, is the first Metal Gear Solid.
Kojima's played his hand since then, and the later ones don't get me. But the Alaskan desolation of the original, the perfect theme, and the fact that by the end you feel just as betrayed as the guys you just killed did not go unnoticed.
I didn't necessarily make me cry, but it left it's mark, al the same.

Although Clannad is obvious because of its popularity I didn't cry near as much as I did playing Crescendo, especially when I played the hidden story you get after you play through each story-arc for the main characters.
