If you're going on stage for a media tech demo, you should have tested every aspect of the thing way in advance. In a way, you have to treat it like a stage play, including a final rehearsal with all the actual actors and tech. And there needs to be a backup machine, so there's an immediate fix in case something goes wrong. Otherwise you may end up in the nasty situation that factors out of your control (broken hardware, dim ceo, ...) end up making your tech look bad. He's only got himself to blame.
