Where are more traditional RPGs like Mother 2 and Secret of Mana... Chrono Trigger got on the list at least. Although I enjoyed FFX... I'm kinda disappointed that it got number 1... Ten represented the begging of the end of square... at least for me.

Isnt anyone just suprised that persona 4 is on the list not that it isnt a great game- its fucking fantastic- its just that its such a young game compare to most of em i mean what persona 4 is bearly 1-2yrs

No FFTactics? It has a very epic plot. Nice graphics(at that time), though younger players won't understand the plot. The downside is Square made so many imbalances in the game like Orlandu, Calculator Job, Bewoulf, etc., which made the game a piece of cake.

Chrono Trigger should be ranked higher. And where are Xenogears and Final Fantasy 6!?

The problem with this list is that no RPG gamer will have this exactly list. Sure, most of the games on that list are good, but most of them are also very very similar. The top 10 fruit list does not have 7 apples in there - RPG games have variety too!

This is at most top 10 popular or just well-known RPGs. Everyone RPG fan has his own list, and it's not going to be anywhere near the same. So yeah, let's not attack the list and just say what our own top 10 or top 7 or top 5...

I'm really surprised by this list. Fallout 3 seems out of place on this list, and I'm not sure why its there. Its the same fucking game as Oblivion and all the games that preceded it. The only difference is the setting and some minor game play changes.

RPG gamers like some innovation, but mostly the same shit works over and over again. Still, I would think Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect would have represented the "newer" generation of RPGS. I guess Western titles don't penetrate the Japanese market too easily, considering it is an XBOX creation.

FF X was somewhat enjoyable to me. But the voice acting was horrendous, and the characters were essentially all the same as far as combat is concerned, with a few exceptions. I think the fans love of Yuna and Rikku, coupled with songs like Suteki da ne and Zanarkand are what made this top the list.

No mention of Suikoden 1 or 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Star Ocean, Chrono Cross, FF IV or VI, the first Dragon Quest......strange, very strange.

The two big surprises for me were a) seeing Fallout 3 (or ANY western RPG) on the list, and b) seeing Persona 4 on there instead of Persona 3 FES. I know 4's probably a better game, but I was under the impression that it was simply overshadowed by its predecessor.

Surprising to see FFX beat out FFVII as well.

Wow I'm amazed that FFX beat out FFVII; not because FFVII is a better game, but because it's fan base is rabid. I should know one of my friends is a FFVII fanboy and he annoys the hell outa me with his FFVII shit. I played FFVII and it wasn't anything special, it had an interesting story and whatnot but it was still an average RPG. I liked FFX better, good story, nice visuals, innovative battle and skill systems.

Anyways, I'm not that much into DQ or KH. My list would include FF9, FF6, P4, and Tales of Symphonia and Vesperia. The lower 5 would just be fillers.

Final Fantasy VI on Super Famicom was a classic master piece, there're noobs who did this list, and no Xenogears too!

i'm so happy that FFX made the top of the list. i wasn't expecting that at all. it was MY FAVORITE entry in the series but out of all my nerdy ass friends i am the only one that shares that opinion.

This list is Gay, and what demographic of "RPG FANS" compiled this list, and is this a specific type of RPG top ten? Half of this list is bogus and Jesus crist! Final Fantasy 8 was hot garbage! Who are these idiots praising such a boring/Broken game. FFX was ok but it duesn't even belong on the top 20. And yes there are allot of Girl characters there but there are allot more "Androgenous " characters than any other FF game which Validates my theory as to why this list is Gay, FFX at #1.. no wonder. lol

Meh this list will be constantly changing depending on when it's polled. Though I have to admit to being surprised that Chrono Trigger and Fallout 3 made it this time.
Also, everyone asking for Suikoden 2 is a fucking idiot. Just because it was popular in the US doesn't mean it was popular in Japan.

FFX at #1 is no surprise to me, although I'd just finished playing it & found my overall enjoyment greatly reduced from my personal & compulsive time-hogging need to constantly level-grind to master the game (DAMN YOU, PENANCE!), it was pretty ground-breaking during its time. Never-before-seen gaming features were introduced. I'd say, each FF series is great in its own way & I've enjoyed them all (VII - X).

Still, in my RPG list, Planescape: Torment still sits firmly at the top of the game.

There is a distinct lack of Final Fantasy VI on this list. And there is no way in hell Final Fantasy X is better then Chrono Trigger.

I just found it atrocious that there isn't ANY of the Suikoden series on there. I mean...all of those on there are wonderful, but FFX is definately not everyone's favorite, just ask.

As for the rest they are all good games; but not in my top ten!

Chrono Trigger and Persona 4 should be much higher on that list. And at least one of the Suikoden games should have made it up there.

Final Fantasy X shouldn't be there at all. I mean, come on people!? How stupid do you have to be to think that it was a good game? I will admit that aesthetically, it was a beautiful game and it had decent gameplay, along with the exciting opening sequence but, that does not cover up its terrible characters and story. Listening to Tidus and Yuna talk at all was so bad that I was tempted to turn off the game and stop playing right there.

FF X IS the best rpg. it's the only game which has an over arching theme. each chara sacrifices something for the greater good.
the main link between these games is great charas.

I'm convinced that the mindless, endlessly repetative grinding offered by DQ games is some sort of soul-crushing training for the office work that awaits most japanese.

most on the list are pretty decent, though the order is debatable...ff8 is my personal favorite, but i understand why some people dont like it...chrono cross is majorly underrated in my opinion

I'm glad Tales of the Abyss least made it to the list, but seriously, FFX as 1#? Hell no. The game was over-hyped and it sucked. The characters were annoying (especially Tidus), the plot was kinda bland, and most of the game was clip after clip -.-.

Imo Tales of Vesperia is a great rpg. So is Legend of the Dragoon, FFXIII, FFIX (though no one else likes it, lol), Xenogears, the Star Ocean games, and many more I'm too sleepy to list atm >.>.

it's offensive how Fallout 3 was chosen over Fallout 2, or even the original. Fallout 3 isn't even really a fallout game.
