American companies won't resort completely to anime style graphics since they can't draw them properly and either merge them with the Marvel styles or overdo it.
It's also harder for an average american audience to accept, so they have to worry about sales.
Plus it's SO much easier to program the movements since they don't have to re-draw every fucking frame.
As a side thought, if they made a really good eroge, otaku would buy multiple copies. So there would be no worry about sales.

Not all 3d cg is bad but if you don't put a lot of money into making it then it will be bad. The videos for Final Fantasy XIII are examples of good Japanese CG but the only really good examples of american cg don't don't render human characters and are only used for background, effects, and non-human like creatures. (for example LOTR)

A business on some reality tv show (The Dragon?) pitched the idea of an English eroge. They managed to get to the finals but... my god, it was horrible.
The art was mediocre but passable. However, the writing was terrible. The main character was an English self-styled "otaku". If that wasn't bad enough, it was half-geared to stroke the niche-market (people here) but tried to draw in the normals as well. The result was a nauseous read for the niche-market and a confusing read for the normals, who wouldn't be able to get half of it, nor relate with the main character.
It also used a lot of unnecessary Japanese throughout.

Inspiration works both ways anywho, a lot of sci-fi anime in the 80's owed a lot to the likes of Blade Runner and Star Wars, and even the early styles adopted by Tezuka and his contemporaries owe to Western works like Disney, Max Fleischer, etc., so it's a bit close-minded to say it's just the US copying.

Speaking of katawa shojo, it was inspired by the rough drawings of some artist, isn't that artist responsible for the game even existing? his artwork led to the fan art that shows up in the game, which itself was pretty much created by fans, international ones at that... and of those fans, after the creation of the final version of the game, will they stick around each other and accept proposals for other visual novel games? therefore leading to a sort of, unofficial games development company... one that works for free by the looks?

U.S. artists have, with Western Traditions, striven for realism, rather than abstraction (simplification) such as the case with the Asian countries. That's why even in anatomy, for example, Asia depicts with the least features or really stylized features, while the West have ULTRA SUPER RIPPED MUSCLES as a way of showing off what they know about the human body.
And even so, in the U.S., the abstraction of the human figure only would make sense in context with exaggeration/caricature of realistic features rather than trying to exaggerate the abstract features. (In u.s., you wanna say someone has a big nose, you better damn well draw that feature larger than you'd expect. In Asia, you wanna say someone's cute, draw their eyes large, and remove their nose.)
My problem with Realism as an end goal for every visual artist? Why not just take a photo?

Well, considering the past comments on certain artists/china as a whole, this looks like a case of hypocrisy.
As far as source goes, the typical thing is to give credit where credit is due, even if it is some "random Japanese blog". This was not done.
And the fact that Kotaku may have ripped off this site many times before doesn't justify Sankaku doing the same. That's just unprofessional and sinking to their level.
The comment copied 5 links from a thread posted on 2ch a while ago, which it did not source either. There is no need to give credit in these cases, and as a rule we only credit 2ch in passing if at all (though we certainly don't take credit for their work). Most Japanese sites do exactly the same thing (as "hiroimono") so I fail to see any problem.
The only problem here is that a stream of mentally deficient anon couldn't work out that the Kotaku piece was actually indirectly sourcing Itai News, which itself is just lifts 2ch threads verbatim, so they erroneously started accusing us of improper sourcing. If the piece had come a month later they would all have forgotten about it.

Americans don't attempt anime style because it simply isn't as popular in the US as it is in Asia. Also, Western culture (Meaning Europe and the US) has an obsession with Machismo. This is part of why the visual novel style of game hasn't caught on in the USA and Europe. Because it's all romance, there is rarely any action therefor it is not Macho enough and "gay." Even though the object of the game is to have sex with women, go figure.
Also, Western gamers just expect an experience where they are an active participant rather than a passive reader. We expect fully interactive 3d environments and the ability to make meaningful choices that affect the outcome of the game. Visual Novels just can't offer that.

Katawa Shoujo is technically Japanese due to the original character concepts being from a Japanese artist.

Speaking in terms of history, Taiwan has a much longer history of H-game making than China...which to this day, still does NOT have any (marketed) H-games, due to *harmonious* laws on the banning of all lewd and "lowly" media.
The Chinese game presented in this post is a somewhat controversial topic BEFORE it was released, since it was a bishoujo-game done in a style VERY close to Japanese standards (loved by post-80's Chinese but abhorred by the old-timers), and because the Story of the Red Chamber was already made into an H-game by the Taiwanese 10 years ago...but after it was out it was a milestone. If only they can keep it up...
