X-Men East vs West

x-men-misfits-cover.jpg

Marvel Comics classic X-Men was recently adapted into a shoujo manga of all things, not inappropriately titled “X-Men: Misfits” – a comparison is visible above.

xmen-misfits-shoujo-version.jpg

Although the artist responsible are apparently small-time shoujo mangaka, the title itself is written and published in English for the American market, probably explaining the extremely awkward mismatch of genres – an equivalent Japanese version might be expected to fall firmly into the shonen demographic.

Perhaps fortunately for fans of both shoujo and Marvel, the title appears to have sunk without trace…

so is marvel behind this? i guess since it is their trademark.

Perhaps they wanted to reach a broader audience... like: "hey how to we get female customers?" "Dont the japanese have some sort of comics for them, lets get some japanese artist do the work for us!"

Obviously, that guy is a trolling fag, living in his own world, speaking his stupid Wapanese and walking around with Naruto Headbands.

Ever thought of the possibilities that there are good super hero comics? Batman? Watchmen?

Pfft, not ALL of it's good, like anything there's the good ones and there's the crap stuff. Not everything from the same media has the same quality.

OF COURSE US Comic is GOOD, that's why people like them!

But don't insult people just because they don't read US comics.

This isn't even a US comics site. GTFO

Doesn't even look like god damn X-Men, wtf was this woman thinking when she drew this? At least get the costumes and character personalities right...

On the other hand, the Shonen version of this MIGHT be kick ass.

You mean the guys drawing it. Artists are Anzu and Del Rey, both indonesian artists.

The heck. Del Rey is a publishing company, not a person. And Anzu is a girl.

That is sure why they wrote "Art by Del Rey, Anzu" there.

I guess you miss the cover where there is no "Del Rey" to be found. Or the spine having the Del Rey company name and logo. Or the concept that a company could be credited for minor artistic tweaks its employee makes.

    Tsk tsk tsk...

X-Men wouldn't be X-Men without the trademark characters, especially Wolverine (and his gruff personality). If the Japanese manga wants to enjoy the same popularity as the American comic, then it should keep the original formula so that it's at least recognizeable. The manga is more like the equivalent of the Marvel/Madhouse Wolverine trailer, if you remember it at all.

I just want to quote the word "American." Who makes and buys American comics? The Americans. Who makes and buys anime/manga? The Japanese. Nothing ventured nothing gained thus will all those who commented earlier that it fail and all just shut the f*ck up and don't buy it. Geez Anons are always like these... Anons who have nothing better to say just stay out of this you anon pieces of trash ^ ^

Ahahaha! This is great stuff right here. Personally I prefer the east but most people feel negative about this is because the west made a staple about this. There might be an equation in your head that might go something like Marvel=Rigid Western style art form. It reminds me of the first episode of Seitokai no Ichizon about the difference in media either way it's all about preference.

    P.S.
Some of you might find this as slander but I never the Marvel franchise except for Iron Man. As for the rest... I regret ever encountering them from my childhood till now.

How do you know the artist is an Indonesian? Do you have a source?

Btw, I agree that this version of X-Men fails. Marvel's illustrations are godlike in its own way, so they really shouldn't bother...

hehe, i like how the authors/artists go from totally bullshit people, Raina Telgemeier (seriously, she must be jewish or something) and Dave Roman (he could be a pizza delivery guy); and then there's Anzu. He's the badass of badasses who takes this comic to epic status. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't all be reading HIS comic as we speak. [/sarcasm]

"the title appears to have sunk without trace" \(^0^)/

From what i hear, this Anzu is some doujin artist(if you can call her that)from Indonesia.
A good X-men manga adaption is possible, but this is SO not the right way of handling it. Just another piece of crap trying to exploit of the manga wave. The project was doomed the second they decided to hire that amateur loser.

oyi... Shoujo style does not work well for X-Men at all. If they are going to alter the style, they need a stronger design.

I can see Oh-Great doing a version of X-Men... since his style is rather masculine.
