The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi Movie Announced

A movie adaptation of the long awaited “Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” arc has been announced.

The “Shoushitsu” movie is set to be released theatrically in 2010.

Further details will doubtless be revealed in a series of tedious media stunts and viral marketing initiatives, unless Kadokawa has finally purged the production committee of those responsible for the previous debacle.

The story, which prominently features megane-Nagato and long-haired Haruhi, was previously supposed to have been included in the “new material” which took the place of a proper Haruhi second season, but Kadokawa and Kyoto Animation evidently felt including all eight episodes of Endless Eight took precedence…

I love how all the people are bitching that the movie won't be able to encompass what six episodes of the TV series could.

I mean, it's not like Evangelion took the first six episodes of the series, turned them into a movie that ran for 98 minutes, and then had said movie be well received by both the critics and the general public.

    Oh wait.

How appropriate for a Kadokawa teaser.
A still image with stupid effects.

I wonder if they really did anything more than that.
I wonder if the movie will be that static scene in slideshow with different bits for over 2 hours.

The disappearance Arc maybe is the longest in the novels but has a smooth and fluid story, if it's a 2hs movie could be adapted "full".

I'm amazed at how you can let some bad episode planning ruin a good show for you forever. I mean, the arc they did after EE was actually really good! So you should quit your whining and enjoy this movie..

When a sub finally comes out... grumble... stupid dvd release wait... eva 2.0... grumble...

If you're hurt because of EE, dislike Haruhi since then, and still complaining when seeing Haruhi-related posts, JUST SHUT UP, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME REPLYING TO THE POSTS, AND DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE. Isn't that sooooo simple? Don't say no but u will actually watch the movie if it DOES come. Even worse, posting worthless crap afterwards. Seriously, anyone who match the criteria above are no different from troller.

i have to break it to you but a movie doesn't fucking work for the Dissappearance of Haruhi. Kyon will have to go to that weird time loop twice for things to be settled. The second time is to prevent himself from being stabbed. GOD DAMN IT WAY TO GO JAPAN! fuck you! At least make it a tv third season! FUCKING GOD DAMNIT!

Alright Smart-ass. If you had really enjoyed the book, maybe you would KNOW that Episodes DON'T WORK for this part of the Series.
Yeah, so he has to travel back another time, but hey, They've been doing nothing for a while since the original airing in 2006, so who knows... This movie might be longer!

I've come from the future to tell you, yes, the movie is freaking long (161min) and also yes, it's still too short to work. Third season could have gotten 14*19min=266min and those extra 100min would have really helped. But whatever, we probably won't ever get an Haruhi related anime again. Ever.

Huh. well, colour me surprised. When they were talking about doing a Haruhi movie I thought they were just taking the opportunity to joke about Endless Eight again. On reflection, this could really work. Mind you, I don't have any faith in KyoAni any more after the Endless Eight debacle- they literally blew their ENTIRE credit in one gigantic fuckup.

Specially since anime features take a long time to be produced, almost one year and a half for a 90 minutes film.

Actually, I think a lot of us are more worried that we'll see this announcement again in 2012.

E8 was horrible, as is the Haruhi-On! style, but as long at the movie doesn't share the latter, I can forgive the prior. Ignoring the E8 situation, the season was okay. However, the three years it took to get so-said 'okay' season has me, for one, on troll alert.

    11:18 09/10/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Frankly, it's not a matter of being butthurt. It's a matter of trust. Fans expect entertainment. And given the quality of the source material, and the reputation of Kyoani, what Kadokawa did to their fans was beyond a breach of trust, it was just a plain insult.

If anyone felt that their stunt had artistic merit, then that someone is retarded. 3 times would have been enough to hit it home. Going a full eight is retarded. Had they went for 9, and totally forsaken their semblance of putting up an artistic merit, then their troll would have been set in stone.

In any case, I'd never forgive them for the debacle that was E8. Imagine wasting 5 weeks of your life wondering when it's going to motherfucking end. I wasn't one of those who watched E8 in its entirety, but as someone who anticipated the second season, I was disappointed.

How dare they air original episodes other than the ones I want to see, instead of reruns, for free! I'm so outraged I may lose my monocle!

Perhaps you should have been doing other things with those 5 weeks of your life?

All told, the 2nd season was pretty good. In some ways, it stayed closer to the books than season 1.
