The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi Movie Announced

A movie adaptation of the long awaited “Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” arc has been announced.
The “Shoushitsu” movie is set to be released theatrically in 2010.
Further details will doubtless be revealed in a series of tedious media stunts and viral marketing initiatives, unless Kadokawa has finally purged the production committee of those responsible for the previous debacle.
The story, which prominently features megane-Nagato and long-haired Haruhi, was previously supposed to have been included in the “new material” which took the place of a proper Haruhi second season, but Kadokawa and Kyoto Animation evidently felt including all eight episodes of Endless Eight took precedence…

The disappearance Arc maybe is the longest in the novels but has a smooth and fluid story, if it's a 2hs movie could be adapted "full".

Actually, I think a lot of us are more worried that we'll see this announcement again in 2012.
E8 was horrible, as is the Haruhi-On! style, but as long at the movie doesn't share the latter, I can forgive the prior. Ignoring the E8 situation, the season was okay. However, the three years it took to get so-said 'okay' season has me, for one, on troll alert.
Frankly, it's not a matter of being butthurt. It's a matter of trust. Fans expect entertainment. And given the quality of the source material, and the reputation of Kyoani, what Kadokawa did to their fans was beyond a breach of trust, it was just a plain insult.
If anyone felt that their stunt had artistic merit, then that someone is retarded. 3 times would have been enough to hit it home. Going a full eight is retarded. Had they went for 9, and totally forsaken their semblance of putting up an artistic merit, then their troll would have been set in stone.
In any case, I'd never forgive them for the debacle that was E8. Imagine wasting 5 weeks of your life wondering when it's going to motherfucking end. I wasn't one of those who watched E8 in its entirety, but as someone who anticipated the second season, I was disappointed.

All told, the 2nd season was pretty good. In some ways, it stayed closer to the books than season 1.

huh... so they were just using endless eight as an excuse just so that they would have more time to animate disappearance... well all i know is that if they want to do this right then the movie itself would be over 2 hours long... which i highly doubt that would happen, in any case they would most likely rush, or they might just have a sequel? like how they did with the end of a new evangelion movie.

I was thinking the exact same thing. 5 episodes is roughly 2 hours 5 minutes at 25 mins per episode, so it's obvious that they won't go into as much detail as the Melancholy saga. We won't know for sure until it comes out in 2013 (another 3 year wait). So wait and see......
That's why television is superior compared to film. With television there is a bunch of episodes released which exceed the time of that of a movie, with a film there is about two hours, thats it, and with that they usually cut out many things.
An example would be to compare the Air & Clannad films to the animes, the animes were a bunch of episodes by 24 minutes each which added up to a very long run time when watching all of them, they also stayed much more true to the source material do to that fact, while on the other hand the film versons were shorter, cut sections and characters out and had almost a rush type feel to them, do to the nature of films.
You're forgetting that Air TV have multiple arcs and the movie is like a summary of those.
Haruhi movie is only one arc! if on TV it needs 5 episodes, they'll probably only needs 4 episodes worth of time in movie form (although. You must remember that they wouldn't be as restricted compared to TV. In TV format they'll need to slice it into 22min... how do you think they achieve that perfectly in every episodes?

Actually, only yesterday there was a huge furor on 2ch over a blurry set of photos of an unreleased magazine allegedly showing the Disappearance "movie" - it turned out to just be an introduction of the novel (apparently)... When I first saw the pictures here my first thought was "Photoshop."
Perhaps the 2ch activity was instigated by Kadokawa?
And of course, there would have been no "point" to introduce the Disappearance novel, as it is hardly a recent release. The use of the two page NewType spread on advertising an old novel was vexing, until today.
It was a disguised advert for the Disappearance movie all along.
