Gantz Live Action Movie Announced

Hiroya Oku’s popular ero-sci-fi manga series Gantz will be adapted into two CG heavy live action movies, starring Kazunari Ninomiya as Kei Kurono, and Kenichi Matsuyama as Masaru Kato.
The films are set to premiere in Japan in the winter and spring of 2011. Both actors are said to be in training for the action sequences, with filming set to begin shortly.
The adaptations will be directed by Shinsuke Sato, while Watanabe Yuusuke will be adapting the manga’s storyline.
Just who will be playing the various busty female characters the series is well known for is not clear.
The series has previously been adapted into an anime, though it remains to be seen whether the drastic change from sexually tense surreal science fiction horror to bloody special powers battle manga the series underwent will be reflected in the adaptation.

Yes, DB:Evolution was terrible, KoF will be terrible, original SF was terrible(But I love it) and second one was probably bad as well.
This is pretty much the entire basis for "American version Bad, Japan version Godly, Hulk Smash American version!" Attitude that is so annoyingly common here.
Casshern was pretty terrible. I love the movie, but it was pretty terrible.
If the "No Violence/Sexuality/etc" thing is true, it will be a horrible movie. What is Gantz without violence death and nudity? That girl at the start was naked up until they went on their first mission.

If, assuming this won't be a massive failure, any more movies are made, I really hope they end it before all the Vampire "Author forgot how to add dialogue" arcs start. Have not read a chapter since then.
But, unless you live in Japan, and are going to go pay to watch this movie, opinion really doesn't matter much. You are not the target audience.

Live Action movies from Japan (quite often) have bad acting, and bad effects.
I think the issue you're not recognizing here is that Gantz sucked... Like.. it really sucked. badly. Manga or Anime adaptation, doesn't matter. The real stars of that series should've been the Onion Aliens from the start.

The anime sputtered out at the end with the producers trying to tie up the plot.

Unless they get a director that knows how to combine horror and action. This will be yet another sentai flick with stock explosions popping up behind the actors backs.
hollyweird has always Fucked up anything foreign to American so their track record is plain to see. In regards to Japanese, ALL those fighting games and Dragonball are the obvious examples.
Although the anime ending is kinda weak, it's not like the manga is perfect. At first they have rules that aren't meant to be broken, but when thing start to blend into real world, it felt like the author suddenly want to expand the world beyond what he originally intended.
Not that its bad though... I just felt a bit disconnected there.

Ninomiya was in Letters from Iwo Jima though, and his acting there was actually pretty critically acclaimed =/ If it was any other Johnny'sbrat, I'd be scared, but he'd be good for this movie.

Go watch 20th Century Boys. It's made of full epicness due to it's being both epic and staying true to the manga's storyline that it's mindboggling X2 epic

Those movies have huge potential. But I bet they'll just scrap it and make another 3rd rate live action. The mangaka sucked as well. It takes some tallent to bury such a GREAT, ORIGINAL idea full of epic plot possibilities, and pee on it to top it.
I mean... srsly.... I'm so pissed. The story has started to pick some pace recently, but nothing will save it already.
