It's forgivable in a cartoon; it takes a lot of effort to duplicate the guitarists' hand positions and exact drum hits to a believable level, but few will pay close enough attention to notice. So they mostly just aim to make the broader movements in time with the beat.

When you've got live-action actors miming the instruments poorly and not even on the beat, it's beyond obvious.

The chick playing the teacher is ugly and Mio isn't moe moe enough. also Ritsu doesn't have the right feel to her and their acting needs to be more dramatic. If they could improve that it could be enjoyable.
