You'll find two main age groups, preteen girls... and 20-40 year old men.

The former buy most of the cheap merchandise, while the latter is capable of buying the more expensive items. Both groups buy the DVDs.

Although it's not the kids buying it, it's their parents, they are still the ones with the consumer power.

This is why animation in Japan is so successful... they know how to produce a 'cartoon' with a split demographic.
