Tekken 6 PS3 vs Xbox 360

tekken-6-ps3-vs-xbox-360-2.jpg

Top fighting game franchise Tekken is due to receive a multiplatform release of its sixth incarnation, uninspiredly named Tekken 6, on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

With detailed imagery of both versions now available, a thorough comparison of the two is possible:

tekken-6-ps3-vs-xbox-360-3.jpg
tekken-6-ps3-vs-xbox-360-4.jpg
tekken-6-ps3-vs-xbox-360.jpg

Console fanatics may wish to latch on to clearly invisible minute differences between the two versions in order to demonstrate the superiority of their chosen platform.

Should that prove too much effort, the fact that the PS3 version is apparently set to display only in 1024×576 resolution with 2xAA whilst the Xbox version displays at a mere 1366×768 with no AA should be sufficient to establish the superiority of one version to the wretchedly inferior competing version.

The game is due at the end of October for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Look to all you fanboys of the 360 let me break something down for you. Tekken 6 and Tekken 6 BR are both built on the PS3's cell processor technology. The game looks amazing in the arcade. But in order for namco to make an equal product for both console they had dumb down the graphic engine for the PS3 port and make the X360 port slighty better. It's simple fact you can't deny it. Both look pretty much the same it's just shitty that they couldn't take full advantage of the processing power the PS3. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter. Noobs will get it on the 360 and hardcore Tekken players will get it on the PS3

    Comment by Anonymous

Any reliable source for your two claims (the watering down of the PS3 port and the fact that hardcore Tekken players all own PS3s)?

Why doesn't this shitty fighting game series get non-flat, realistic stages already? Dead or Alive has them, Virtua Fighter 3 (and only that one, sadly) had them... plus, the floor textures look like ass.

Oh, and it's better to wait for some real performance comparison on these, like Digital Foundry's. With, you know, something better than useless artifact-filled low quality JPEGs...

Aaaand Tekken 6's original arcade version runs on System 357 hardware, which itself is based on PlayStation 3 hardware (as has always been the case with Namco games since around 1994), so the PS3 porting should be a breeze... no excuses this time when it comes and looks better on the 360. ;D

Oh no, I do get it: that the differences are so minute, so imperceptible, that there's literally no point in arguing about which one looks better since it's all the damn same.

Of course, we'll see if that's the case when the game is finally released and DF does its magic. There's a chance that they're both technically identical in motion albeit having a great resolution discrepancy, though (as was the case with SoulCalibur IV: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/xbox-360-vs-ps3-face-off-round-14-article?page=2).

    ok, lets sum it up.

    3DVDs.
estimated playtime each DVD 20 hours. More or less.
Takes 20 seconds to switch the DVD before you can go on.
Because you only have to switch twice (Disk 2 and 3) we come close to a minute waiting time.

    Now...
    1 Blue Ray DVD.
Since it's the PS3 and it's a big Game, we prolly have to install quite alot before we can even think about starting the Game.

    Estimated Installation-time.. 20~30 minutes.

Even if its just 10 minutes. I prefer switching Disks every 15~20 hours for a few seconds instead of having to install the game on a CONSOLE before i can even play it.

Why do people still think that it is such a disadvantage to have 3 game disks instead of just 1?

    butthurt fanboi much?

Multiple-disc spanning games' bitching coming form a PS3 "defender" is pretty lulzy, they always "forget" that many of their most beloved and all-important, almighty titles were multi-disc: Final Fantasies VII through IX, Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve... way to go with that double standard!

i'm bringing up installation time as a disadvantage because consoles were always Plug and Play.

and well, why is it a disadvantage to have more than 1 Disc? When i think about my old FF7 on my Playstation, i was happy that i had more disks. A friend scratched the 1st cd so bad that my PSX couldn't read it anymore. I was glad that i had a savegame which started at Disc 3. Even if i couldn't start the game over again, i was still able to play.

Thank god it had more discs than just 1.

See, i don't think having just 1 disc is a HUUUUGE advantage over 2 or more, like everyone seems to think.

I'm truely neutral when it comes to the 360/PS3 wars but, in this case(drum roll please)........................the 360 version pretty easily comes out on top.The frame rate ought to be better on the 360 version as well if the devs of the game use the extra video memory and the stronger gpu to their advantage.

how can you tell that when one is lit and the other isn't?

i also wasted a minute for each one to spot differences and i can only spot them on the second picture, in the 360 version the environment at the center of the image is darker than the ps3, if you notice in the 360 version the tree blends with the mountain because of the darkness while in the ps3 version you can see the branches... if thats good or bad i don't know

to me they look the same, both bad that is... probably because of the jpeg compression...

SF was getting somewhere amazing with SF Alpha and SF3 progressing it, but then they decided to go back to SF2. SF4 is pure SF2 fans' fanservice from top to bottom, plain and simple.

Not every single one, but most of them either have higher resolution/ better graphics, a higher/ more stable framerate, or have less glitches/ bugs on the 360.

The Internet is chock full of research on this subject (and porn, but that's beyond the point), so it isn't necessary to own either of the two systems to have an extensive comparison.

THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO GRAPHICALLY and is not worth my time thinking about it.I do believe that the xbox 360 is a better system at the moment and i spend more time on it. Tekken is a good fighting game but I prefer the real legend that is SoulCalibur.

Tekken still feels old and outdated compared to the games that use the 8 way run with analog sticks.

You still have to hold back in Tekken to block where every other fighting game uses a button.
Holding back to block should stay in Street Fighter and only Street Fighter.

Also when you get knocked down in tekken it's a hellish experiance when facing cheap ass characters like Lili to get back up.

The recovery response is horrible in tekken games.

SoulCalibur IV may not have been the the best in the series but the previous games I will remember and cherish forever.

I don't believe that still shots can show the difference in gameplay or graphic quality on systems either - the 360 or the PS3 might run a little choppy.

"A mere 1368x768?" That's a higher resolution than the PS3 is running at - the difference is the PS3 is using AA. AA is pretty taxing, which is why they're running at a lower resolution and upscaling. To me, it looks like the 360 is using blur AA at normal resolution and the PS3 looks like it's using real AA and upscaling.

You're not going to be able to get a positive quality difference 2560x1440 full capture of identical benchmarks. Two separate 1280x720 identical benchmarks played simultaneously would also suffice.

There were definitely problems with the Xbox 360 before, fortunately even though I was an early purchaser I never experienced a true RROD. I did, however, get one of the ones that etched circles in to your discs. RMA'd it and got a new one that is a little louder, but no issues at all. The most recent Jasper chipset that is making its way to becoming the majority of the stock of retail stores pretty much doesn't RROD because it runs so much cooler.

    Ok...

When I was a wee lad, I dealt with strong differences between consoles. Try Atari 2600 vs Intellivision vs Commodore 64 vs Colecovision vs NES vs Sega...

I didn't hate it, I found it rather interesting how you'd have a super popular hit, like Q-Bert or Frogger, and so the big company would commission a port for every major platform, failure is not an option... And what was included or done better or worse really painted a picture. Does anyone remember the print ads on the back of comic books that actually show 12 or so screen shots?

The only suckage was when they tried to do something that simply couldn't be realized due to the technology at that time, like Pac-Man on the Atari 2600. The "Movie" category fell especially into this game system. Indiana Jones and the Lovecraft level failure of "ET"...

The 2600 got most of the horror stories, due to it being very popular a lot longer than expected and being "Obsolete" but still selling newer and newer games as the arcade and competing technology improved. It triumphed over the much more advanced (and expensive) Intellivision and the later ColecoVision, but eventually was erased by the video game crash and the NES...

Overall, even the "Flops" were amazing works of programming. Imagine if you had slightly less available data than one of these square "Thumbnail" images, and it had to be all in machine language and you had to mix drawing the image with the very slow processor which had to also calculate which sprite was doing what or what the controls were doing... The classic hit "Adventure" for instance was made because it was impossible to port or make a game like "Zork" an all-text adventure.

Now, the only part of the modern "Console" debate I agree with is where some part is "Censored". Wish we had Ero games in the states, I bet Idol Master would sell like mad, but... Well, I've raved my thoughts on "The Pig ladies of the UN"...

That is a horrible lack of detail on the PS3 version. The PS3 version looks fuzzy and lacking of clear lines exactly the same way the PC to TV Plextor device sends any computer game to the VHS tape.

If its the PS3 version, we would expect that we could see tiny sweat droplets around the side of the face and the divisions that make up the legs on a female. Not trasposition graphics conversions which the PS3 seems to be using.

if they look exactly the same and the ps3 is said to be the god machine compared to the noob x360

    then ps3 is failing

Cause it's clearly the PS3's fault for not being able to magically create quality in a game to compensate for the game designers' inadequacy.

Which seems to account for every single designer/ developer ever... so it's totally not Sony's fault for designing a server-movie player hybrid and trying to sell it as a console, definitely not.

And before you try to come with MGS4 and all that crap:

    1. Kojima himself declared that it's more tahn possible to have it on the Xbox 360.

    2. He's developing his next big game on both systems, since (if you care to read and understand both consoles' specs) they're capable of the exact same games, chump.

Looks pretty same-y to me! Good for them! Regardless, I'm sure it's a matter of time before someone with fanboy-vision puts one of 'em on the same level as the PSP version, looks-wise.

The only major difference is in the texture resolutions and lighting. The xbox version has slightly, and I do mean SLIGHTLY, softer shadows.

    Examples of differences in lighting:
Screencap 1, Alissa is standing in front of a broken pillar. You will notice that the shadows are darker in the ps3 pic while it is lighter in the xbox pic. While I would have thought that the PS3 would have better lighting due to it's multiple processors, it seems that they decided to go with SLIGHTLY better detail on character models rather than world environment.

In this first screen, the xbox shows better diffuse lighting over that post.

Examples of difference of texture detail:
Let's examine the third screenshot. You'll notice that the pants on Kazuya show a little more detail in the fabric on the ps3 than it does on the xbox.
Because the ps3 is running at a lower resolution, it's got 2xAA going on to reduce the jaggies. The xbox is running a much higher resolution with no AA, but the effect is virtually the same. The real benefit of running at a higher resolution is evident in the detail seen on the background textures. Take a look at the break in the wall. You'll notice that the broken concrete looks more defined on the 360 than it does on the PS3. Take into account the better lighting effects from the 360 and the end result is that the 360 is able to render the world environment slightly better than the ps3, whereas the ps3 has put more detail on the characters.

    Final thoughts:
In the end, the differences are so small and minute, you're not going to notice it while you are having fun playing the game with your friends. There's no point in trying to have a virtual E-cock size match between Ps3 and Xbox 360 because you're never going to notice the differences anyway. Both systems render the game beautifully and both produce a very good image. What it comes down to is which system do you own? Buy it for that system. Do you own both systems? Then buy it for the system you play the most.

Everyting is the same . Where did you see more details on characters ?? xD The main diffrence here is the resolution. PS3 with hi lowres with aa for more blurry picture and x360 with higher res than 720p for really crisp and sharp picture .

There is the framerate to take into account too... Maybe one of the 2 consoles won't have constant 60 fps while the other will. >_> To avoid trolling I won't try to predict which one. :-P
