Haruhi has been subjected to a number of dire manga cash-ins; the Makoto Mizuno version illustrated above was thankfully canned, but the Tsugano Gaku version visible below is inexplicably still underway…
It is easy to see who he spent all his time drawing.
Although the quality of the source material is unfortunately a given, both light novels and anime were famed for the high quality of their illustration, so it is surprising that this situation has been allowed to persist.
However, all is not lost: Puyo’s excellent Haruhi-chan manga is both original and charmingly illustrated, possibly making up for the lacklustre quality of the other manga titles.

kyon using geass is still funny as hell.
The Tsugano Gaku's manga version might not be visually beautiful, but I love the handling of view angle in the panels, new original story and the dialogues interacts.
Tsugano Gaku did a 2 volumes version of 'The girl who leap through time' and I know the art style might be the same traditional hand drawn effort with no little digital help, but the whole books story flows is nicely done, IMO.
I will give the artist another room to improve the art style, as this is still a fresh artist. She show good skill in handling scripts and panels, might be she have experience in doing behind a work scene in drama or something close to it.
I have bought 3 volumes of Tsugano Gaku`s Haruhi manga, and i think it`s not that bad. Story flows quite nicely, and his drawing is improving all the time. I hope he keeps his style close to that in vol.3.
If you want Haruhi manga look like in KyoAni anime, then KyoAni`s key animators has to draw it. I doubt they will have time for it.
Err, I have brought till volume 6 of the Haruhi manga, because I usually don't mix novel, anime and manga story together, I treat them as separated franchises. But I do feel the disappearance arc have the weirdest Kyon facial reaction.
Even though I hate the series, Haruhi has at least always looked nice, till now. >_<

Don't forget about Puyo's other Haruhi themed manga, The Vanishment of Nagato Yuki-chan. It's also done quite well.

I think it's the expectations of "how it should look like" that automatically is engraved into everyone's brains that causes one to say "Hmm, this looks wrong!".
