A father has been charged with sexually abusing his eight-year-old daughter after being reported for kissing her in public.
He faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years if convicted.
The man, an Italian businessman on holiday in Brazil together with his Brazilian wife and daughter, was reported by a suspicious Brazilian couple, who apparently saw a white man kissing and touching a young brown skinned girl at a pool and assumed he was a lolicon with one of the nation’s multitude of loli prostitutes.
Police soon arrested the man and charged him under draconian new laws designed to discourage men from buying child prostitutes; the law stipulates sentences of 8 to 15 years for sexual activity with girls under 14.
His wife and hotel staff all report his actions were entirely innocent, and that he was arrested solely on the mistaken testimony of onlookers.
Despite repeated intercessions on his behalf, police refuse to release him, now having held him for a week.
