Final Fantasy XIII Pre-Orders Open

Pre-orders for Final Fantasy XIII are on the verge of opening throughout Japan.
The announcement comes indirectly by way of a Lawson convenience store, which indicates reservations are set to begin September 9th.
The terminals indicate the game can be reserved for a staggering $83, and will likely be released on December 17th.
Optimistic attempts to reserve the game ahead of time meet with failure…

Yeah with a title like 'Final' Fantasy, you think it would have died after the first game. Thankfully, it hasn't. Least, ignoring all the fanboys/girls here, both PS3 and Xbox360 fans will get to enjoy FFXIII. Unfortunately it comes out in Spring 2010 at the earliest and I have to study during summer and fall! ARGHHHHH!!!!

actually, the first final fantasy was ( i forgot who's) but it was their last attempt at a game, hence the title 'final' fantasy, but the game did so well, more games came

lol I guess you didn't know that Square was going to go bankrupt many years ago, but Final Fantasy saved the company, and now the company is keep spawn more and more non-final Final Fantasy and they ain't gonna stop.
Not matter how bad the new and future Final Fantasy games are gonna be, it still got too many loyal zealots buying the games so the sales would still be way higher than average games in general.

When will FF7 get its own remake for the current generation console? FF7 was the best I have ever played and set the bar for me. 8,9,10 etc aren't just as epic
Eugh, ff7 fanboys are worse than naruto fanboys, because naruto fanboys know naruto's not getting remade. Seriously ff7 was a let down to the final fantasy fans, accept this and take it for what it means; it's not good.

This last Anon is out of line here. Although i have an innate antipathy for FF7 there is no doubt about it being one of the best games ever made. Yes, plot holes, silly developments, weird balance, Hollywood exploits and rampant nihilism are still not enough to justify calling it a "let down"
After final fantasy 4 we all waited in anticipation, and they released ff5, the story was lacking compared to the last and it had it's flaws, but the interesting job system and sense of humour (almost parodying the older games) made it one of my favourite final fantasy games, from expecting 4 to be the peak it became the peak of story, where 5 became the peak of gameplay. I accepted it was a good game, not the same as before, but in it's own right it was great.
Then 6 came out, after final fantasy 5 everyone expected the series to let them down again, 'cos we couldn't see anything being better fun than 5; we were again prooved wrong. The characters were less interesting than 4, the gameplay less fun than 5, and the humour the same as gameplay, but what ff6 had was a great balance, it's own sense of style, and alot of interesting abilities that kept the characters feeling defined even in combat. It created a nice balance, but it excelled in style more than anything else.
Then came 7. We had been pleasantly surprised by the previous installments, so this seemed sure fire to be good, we had seen final fantasy cross over consoles before, and they did it exceptionally well; we accepted there's be a shake in graphics, and accepted it in 7, but expected it to wow us with gameplay and story rather than graphics. Then we played the game, and all went downhill. They attempted style, and created some great mini-games for the time, but when I prefered the mini-games to the main game shows just what's wrong with it. The humour was tagged in, and was way over the top for what essentially isn't that funny, the system was cumbersome and boring, while making all the characters a bit samey, the characters had very little definition, and the story was ultimately whiney. The nihilism is not my problem, infact that's probs the only redeeming feature, it had interesting philosophy, though explained in a fairly lack luster way, and maybe that was it's excelling point, but the previous FFs took good parts of previous games and balanced them while adding a new shine; FF7 took the poor characterisation of 5, the create what you want aspect from 6, and the everyone's the god-damn same aspect from 3. Maybe if 6 wasn't quite so good then I'd've accepted it as an okay game, which it is, but for final fantasy, a series we trusted so much, to make a just ok game was a massive kick in the teeth, and thus it was a let down; not a bad game, just a let down from an awesome series.

Fuck FF7. Its a best seller only because its the first FF for the PSX, and the first in 3D form.
Fuck best story. You played them thousands of time you never even touch other game which has a better story.
When we grow tired of the click-a-bunch-of-menu-options type of gameplay we are familiar with in console RPGs. Unless they take the franchise in some other direction. In which case I don't see it dying without an overt plan by Square Enix to move onto something else.
Except that this is what fans want, there aren't enough of these games out these days for the current gen, I for one am looking forward to an actual RPG, as are many others. This style will not die, and at the same time, Square is taking RPGs in other directions as well. They put out games like Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts, and 13 Versus that are action RPGs (Dissidia is a bit more kin to a fighter but it still has RPG elements). They experiment with other game types with overwhelming success so far.

We need more games like dirge of Cerberus. It was a bit lacking in the shooter category, but it managed to be fast paced with a decent combination of genres. It was good considering it was a first attempt, and likely contributed greatly to Dissidia and versus XIII.
If "game" genres like visual novels are still here, you can be sure that final fantasy is going to be here for a while.

Actually they've stated they're going to be the exact same in content. only difference will be that PS3 is on one blue ray which means nothing really. Maybe a mandatory install too but not confirmed.

and I'll admit FFX-2 wasted itself, the battle system is fun to play, but with the characters (or lack there off), story (or lack there of) and unnecessary and stupid quests that take up like 70% of the game (there was no lack of these) they completed wasted all the time they spent on that system.

There was a Final Fantasy anime TV series that was awful (not Advent Children).
+1 on FF8 being terrible. Final Fantasy is the Kyoto Animation of video games: great production quality can rescue lackluster, repetitive games.

i want a HD remake of Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1), released on PC, Xbox Live, and PSN for 10$. Regarding the Valk. Chron. like graphics in the cutscenes of the remake for PSP, that should be the art concept of the HD remake too. It will be the best game this generation.

There are no japanese voices because they are lip synching the english track, a damn good decision as only 10% of people buying it at most care about playing the game in japanese, a language they don't understand.
If you care that much about playing it in japanese learn the language like I've done a long time ago, import it and stop fucking crying.

I could care less about the language, I just want the experience to sound natural, even if I have to read subtitles.
Even if they have black people or what not in this latest game, the characters' essences are still Japanese, their behavior in the cutscenes would mirror the culture of their creators. So it's but natural to expect them to speak Japanese as well.
Now you listen here. FFXIII's producer, when asked about an option to choose language, said himself, like "What? Is there a need for it? Oh.... well, I'll consider it." And since they already HAD lipsinked vesrion to Japanese, why not INCLUDE it on par with english sync version. It just the matter of few extra gigabytes.

Seeing as each Main title in the franchise (can't really call it a series) is a stand alone title unrelated to all the others, one could argue that each game is technically a fresh idea. After all, Final Fantasy XIII looks and plays like no other game in the franchise. Just saying.

If the stories are good, who cares! This is a franchise and it has withstood the test of time.
Yeah, as others have said... FFVII definitely needs a remake and is pretty much the only FF that needs it, being as its the only one to not age well, have a script that's utter crap, have horrible graphics, etc., but is still a good/decent RPG.
And, I think there's more than just TWO good FFs. Sure, some were meh, but there's at least three from the main series that I'd deem epic... VI, IX and XII, with IX being in the top spot. My absolute favorite FF, RPG and game of all-time. No other FF really holds a candle to it, outside of VI which influenced it a lot, though.
As for remakes, FFIVDS is a great example of a remake done right.
Can't wait for FFXIII, though.
agreed, there are definitely more than 2 good ff games out there, my favor of them all being the epic ffXII(the expressive graphic alone is epic). can't wait for ffXIII wither, just too many bad thing about the game being said recently made me worry a bit.
didn't think too much of ff7 when I played it, the crappy graphic really did the game in for me, but after playing crisis core I now pray for its remake to happen.
