Another bit of info you may probably ignore; the Japanese gaming market is quite unique when compared to its neighbours in that PC gaming is rather weak. There has been an increasing tendency/ move to console gaming in the west for quite some time now, and Japan has known almost nothing but consoles throughout all their gaming history starting with the Famicom and having but scarce exceptions here and there (namely H-games for MSX, PC-FX and IBM PC). But China, South Korea and the other countries are almost entirely PC centric, there's still very little room for a console gaming market there.

So, quite frankly, I don't see how they're gonna save the PS3. Sony even promised it'd "last 10 years", and I can almost smell a PS4 announcement for holiday 2010, in the same vein of Windows 7 replacing Vista even though they're almost the bloody goddamn same thing (hey, now I see the connection! :D ).

Look, kid. Every single system in the history of videogames that ever managed to win a particular generation's console wars absolutely had to win over at the American market. Ever wondered how the Mega Drive/ Genesis, even though it bombed spectacularly in the Japanese market, managed to beat the NES and the SNES during 1992, eh?! The American market moves about double the amount of consoles and three times the amount of games that the Japanese one does, do you understand?

They won't reintroduce it, ever. They will continue to sell the PS2 until it isn't needed to subsidize the losses the fat PS3 generated, then they will recode their best games in HD with trophy support -- they are already starting to do that with the God of War 1 & 2 Collection and time its release with GoW III. Perhaps ICO / SoTC to follow suit with Last Guardian.

Why should they offer BC if they cannot get money for it? It will only keep the used game sales market alive and they don't want that, they want to sell "new" games to people, and what better way to do that then by offering remakes!

It's obviously not just because of the games, but also because of its blu-ray capability!

Compared to other blu ray players on the market, the PS3 is the best investment in a Blu Ray player since it was basically the CHEAPEST blu ray player around; other standalone players sell for much higher and do nothing else. The PS3 can play blu ray movies AND play HD games. Now the PS3 slim is MUCH CHEAPER than the fat, AND can start playing PS2 games. It's a definite win there.

Xbox owners should consider investing in the PS3 because of its blu ray capabilities and ability to play exclusive PS3 games and PS2 games.

I can see a trend that Xbox fanboys demonise the PS3 just because they can't own it, and by doing so they are justifying their own mistakes and doubts in purchasing the Xbox instead of the PS3. HDDVD is already out of the picture, so why bother to flock to a system that supports an outdated format? The Xbox can now only play DVD9 games, and no HDDVD as promised. Unless it switches to Blu Ray, the Xbox will not last that long. It's only lasting long in ASIA because DVD9s can be pirated while Blu Ray can't.

Any system that "sells out" in Japan (even moreso when its population is, for some unfathomable reason, battling its competition themselves, perhaps out of national pride or some other xenophobic crap) doesn't mean anything at all; the one market that "makes or breaks" systems is the American one. In fact, if it wasn't for both the Japanese generalized aversion for the 360 and Europe's overall preference for the PS3, the latter would be already dead by now.
