I wouldn’t so much say that Welkin is stupid as that he has psychological problems when it comes to forming relationships with females.

If, I were a Freudian, I’d attribute it to him growing up without a mother. :P

But seriously, we’re currently at episode 18. About the only normal relationship with a female that Welkin has been in, that we’ve been shown is/was his brother-sister relationship with Isara.

I mean, there was the babe at their university that everyone was after, even Faldio, and she went after Welkin and he turned her down. I mean, he’s still in his physical prime, his hormones should be screaming at him to hump some lady, yet he doesn’t.

So his reluctance to admit to Alicia that he cares about her, isn’t that odd in that light.

Also he’s not really the confrontational type. I mean, Faldio has usurped the command of Squad 7 on a number of occasions. Most professional officers would’ve had words with Faldio about this already. Once, might be tolerated, but not twice or more. And especially, not when it gets civvies killed. (Then again, iirc, Welkin didn’t really want to be an officer either, but automatically became one, due to his university background.) *shrugs*
