who except hardcore fans buy drama cds anyway? how can someone be convinced to buy one anyway since it's impossible for the cds to contain more ecchi than the covers, given the fact that they are drama CDs. lets consider the covers just service for those fans
Part of the problem, in addition to the high cost considering the content (2 characters songs and ~35 minutes of radio drama for around 3000 yen?), is that the CDs keep getting delayed. The fourth volume is finally coming (probably) in a few weeks. It's sort of the three strikes of otaku merchandise: plain, costly, and late. The first drama CD was sort of fun in its own way, though (Index becomes a mommy! Sort of... ^^; ).
Makes you wonder if they ever consider, I don't know, making things cost less.
It's like music CDs in Japan compared to the rest of the world. Japan: 3000 yen for an album. U.S.: $18.

They waited too long to release it.
The only thing this series had going for it was the "moe" of two characters. As soon as K-ON aired, it pretty much demolished all other rivals: Kannagi, Index, etc.
Had they released this before the onslaught of K-ON they might have had better results.
I don't know about that. Last Order, Komo-Sensei, Index, they all were much more moe than the K-on characters.
Something about K-on just makes you feel like you already had too much of it...
to be fair kannagi didn't really need any demolishing at that point, the fans already imploded by then.
Index had moe, but it was like wallpaper for a pretty good story.
K-on WAS moe wallpaper, but it should have had a story too.
