I believe that k-on was great, i am a muso, a bassist to be precise, and left handed, so i think Mio is awesome, plus unless you understand japan then you will of course not like this anime... its pure awesomeness

How could such a shitty anime be so popular? The characters just stand around and like they have air in their skulls.

Oh well it least this brings some interest in music.

Clannad genuinely surprised me. If I saw this anime on a shelf, I would probably avoid it. However, one of my friends showed it to me, and holy shit I loved it! The plot was really good, the characters were lovable, and it was genuinely funny. Overall, I consider it a really good anime.

But getting on to the main topic, I saw a few episodes of K-ON!, and I enjoyed it, just like Haruhi and Lucky Star. They weren't exactly masterpieces, but whatever they were enjoyable in my opinion. You see, I look at anime as the same as I do video games and movies: Not everything has to be as amazing Ocarina of Time or Kill Bill, but as long as it's entertaining, it's ok in my book.

K-On animation quality? Guess you need to watch it in 1080p HD, in good big tv before you say anything about it.
Most ppl here seems to be too young to understand how deep K-On really was. Wait 40 years, watch it again, think and write back. I am not waiting, `cos i am dead by then already. If you get rid of all brainwashing, you will understand that sex, erotics, moe and so on is the meaning of life, not some gloomy, inverted, introvert philosophy and pseudo-religious (and religious) bullshit.

"I guess I’m just stuck watching Bakemonogatari or Umineko, then. What a shame, you know? What a goddamn shame."

How odd then that I like both of those shows and still highly enjoyed K-ON! Is it really such a crime to like K-ON! and similar anime among all of the other (more serious) ones?

You cannot argue with people's taste. I've seen anime I didn't like that were adored by many (Code Geass sucked and I'm still not overly impressed with Haruhi), but the reverse is also true. Why would you be bothered by me not liking your favorite show and liking one you don't like?

If your sole complaint is that sales of these type of shows result in more of these shows being made, then I hate to break it to you but unless people massively start dropping these shows, this trend will last for quite some time.

you knows the person who has enough free time to insult people on the internet is the person that truely needs to get out more (and stop insulting people while fapping maybe gets a job too) so instead of insulting people for there taste in anime maybe you should try to watch it (begining to....as far as we are in the series) and hey without nerds the world would still be working with stone tools (hehe "stone tools") we are your boss, we are the guy that gives you power, we are even your landlord this is our world we just allow you to live in it

P.s. if you reply to this message i guess that means i win (if your to stupid to know how i won than you are below average intelligence)

K-on is STUPID and relies on dick-brained losertakus and idiot fangirls who idolize stupidity and "cute". It's not real anime, it's just way to capitalize on constantly masturbating live-at-home high school dropouts who couldn't get a real job if they tried, like the majority of Sankaku Oedipal Complex(If you have to wiki this to understand what I just said, you are below average intelligence and should be in a mental home). Grow up and stop crying in your basement, retard nerds.

Good! A cute, fun little anime has gotten a lot of fans , who decided to let Kyo Ani know they have a mega-hit. Cue the green light for K-on: The Senior Year. ^_^

This was not a suprprise for those fans in the know. K-on was on the cover of three, count 'em, three magazines back in May, and they are doing well in the Megami poster features too. The fans have spoken, and it is "Moe, moe, kyun!" ^_^

In case you haven't noticed, animation, no matter what it is or what country it's at, is BOTH an Art-form, AND a business. From wanting to make the most beautiful and compelling thing the world has ever seen, To making the most generic and profitable cashcow in history. You did it as both an art-form, AND a business (Name another art-form who HAVEN'T done the same thing). I'm sick and tired of assholes who say it's either or when it's both. It's how they did it is what matters the most people. It can be the most gritty and exciting anime with a thought provoking story and compelling characters or can be the most overrated, generic and wrong shit anime to have ever shoved down my throat in all my life with bad story, one-dimensional characters, moe, schoolgirls and ecchi, THE WORKS. HELL, it can be both. It doesn't matter to me. IT IS HOW THEY DID that is going to make me give a thumbs up, or a thumbs down. The anime fanbase or ANY art-form fanbase didn't grow the way they are today JUST because of the business. They like the way they do it no matter how good or bad it is. And what Jakejoe85 said isn't common sense annon. That's just saying "Every art-form people make or anything people made is trashy shit, so other people can eat the trashy shit up. That's what it's supposed to be. Deal with it." Then I'm sorry for seeing the World and humankind a little more than that. Remember, the Art-form MAKES the business. Not the other way around.

"No redeeming artistic value = cancer."

Ridiculous logic. A series that may not have any redeeming artistic value doesn't equal cancer. Attaching something like "artistic value" is, without a doubt, subjective, yet, so easy to be envision by fans and disputed by haters. What's more, there are series out there that don't have any real artistic values, but a number of them are good, are enjoyable and aren't cancer.

And were you implying that moe has no artistic value because...moe? If you are, I'll tell you now that you're terribly mistake. Moe is simply just reactions by the viewers/readers to character trait. It's essentially nothing more than traits. And whether or not a series have value should be decided based on an evaluation of its totality, and not just because of one attribute.

That sounds kinda like bullshit. Seems to me you're just generalizing. Otakus also like TTGL, Gundam, and K-ON. And they also buy the dvds. What now? Otakus don't limit themselves to just moe. It may be higher up on their list of interest or priority, but it's not everything. Hardcore otaku of moe or whatever is a different case.

Really, god forbids a series that's aimed generally towards otaku produced sales because otaku themselves buy it. They know what they want, and like, so they've become more aware of that. Buy what I like, pirate the rest. Sounds familiar, no? Of course, a series aimed towards otaku is not always limited by scope; other people of different age or "group can come to like such series as well. And those people do buy.
