You know, I thought Final Fantasy was like the only one with a bunch of games + Roman Numeral.

Final Fantasy suffered a slump after VI. FFVII was good but it was a far cry story wise from VI, V, IV, (never really got into II/III) and I was pretty generic.

Both FF and DQ are good games,but I can't help but feel DQ being a bit repetitive just like pokemon. However I want to play different RPG like Skies of Arcadia once in a while.

Dragon Quest is the shittiest RPG series out there. Not even trolling. It is quite honestly the worst thing that Japan has ever produced.

I also dont get it. After I played FF VII, VIII, IX, Xenogears and Chrono Cross, I did try to play Dragon Quest series, and I even finished DQ VII, hoping it would hook me up, but alas, it had a REALLY poor story and characters, and I put thoose things far above anything esle. I just cannot spent hours on a boring dungeons and grinding if I wont be entertained but some awesome plot twist afterwards, and DQ just dont make it happen.

I certainly wouldn't say it's the shittiest, but I also fail to see why the franchise is so popular. I was more enthralled by the Phantasy Star series than either Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior, as it used to be in the states) during the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, as I felt it had a deeper story and more engrossing gameplay (at the time).

try playing the original, assholes. then compare it to your precious final fantasy 1. note how one doesn't make you want to fall asleep, much like all your characters start to do when you reach the marsh cave. not even they can stand it

Grandia 3 had a great system, pity that the writers were probably high when they wrote the story.
Or they didn't hire one. I couldn't tell the difference.
If they revamped the system, and produced a more epic story, I'd replay it any time of the day.
Plus, using the tele-boots together with shining wind had the same effect of making your hero dodge everything using teleportation. It was awesome.

can somone please tell me what so great about Dragon Quest series. I've played DQ VIII, i cannot even finish it.....So Boring......
I also started with VIII, and just got bored out of my mind.
But I thought I'll give the franchise another chance and tried V on the ds, and I must say I really really enjoy that one. Especially spamming the talk to party button all the time ensures enough fun to keep playing ( <3 Debora ).

You mean Illusions Eroge will be popular because of Dragon Quest right? No one is going to buy the new Dragon Quest game because of the Eroge. Everyone in Japan already has two copies by now anyway even though the game is a pile of shit.

DQ IV was so good they renamed it DQ III.
DQ IV was so bad they went back and played DQ 3 to forget about it.
Number 3 was so good, they made it twice.
I can understand 3 and 5 scoring so high, but why would 8 be so low? It's leagues above the others.
they're all great games (despite what some faggot trolls are saying on here) so the difference between a high DQ game and a low DQ game isn't much.
The fact that it got overshadowed by Final Fantasy XII.

Still, they had to put a ff12 demo in dq8 to help sales, DQ is not big business outside japan...
