The airing of Disappearance shouldn't be surprising. They should release Disappearance, because it's the main story they used in their announcements of the 2nd season. If they won't, well, that would be very unexpected. And too much, probably. :)

Wow I barely survived 8 viewings of the same crap but Nagato survived 15,527 loops or almost 600 years of the same crap. How she kept her sanity is beyond comprehension. Even Rei would malfunction or become emo. I think Nagato could do something and not merely observed. I've seen many instances in the first season to prove that.

I think the idea of endless eight is not a bad one, they just carried it too far and ruined it completely, leaving a bad after taste.
Had they only done four episodes, the fourth being the last one, this could have been epic, unprecedented in anime and very much in tune with Haruhi’s eccentric fashion of organizing episodes and storyline.
Second and third would have had to be more different from each other, with the third being close to ending it, (the one with the plane signs) but coming short for the fourth to finish.

But the episode title wouldn't need to change. "Endless Eight" as has been said MANY times, has multiple interpretations. The month of August is the eighth month - Endless August. The symbol for a loop, or "infinity", is a sideways eight. The title can still work. In fact, the meaning of "Eight" in the title is supposed to mean August if you go by the books.
I completely agree with Zetsubou. If done in only 3 or 4 episodes with more prominent changes, like the false finish in 3, this would have been a new idea and had a lot of suspense with an actual payoff that would have made it worth it.
There's no way KyoAni has a good enough payoff for this wait. Ryoko could come back and fight Yuki again and Koizumi could blow up 3 buildings and it not be a good enough payoff for all these episodes.

I was thinking of 4 because I don't think 3 would have given the full feeling they were shooting for with this idea, if I remember correctly people started to freak out after the third episode, so that was enough for the desperation and fear to ensue.
I liked the Endless 8 arc but it would be disappointing if the disappearance arc gets shorten because of that.

I just think 8 or more episodes was a little too much and I don't understand why people get so mad over it and complain all the time. I mean you don't like it don't watch it there's plenty of other good anime. They say it ruin the show: NO it didn't. It's Haruhi guys, one of the most particular, innovative shows ever made. It has allways been like this (remember episode 14 season 1: Yuki reading silently her book during 10 minutes, ain't that boring? And people said that season was perfect...).
Maybe if they keep the original chaotic order of airing of season 1, Endless Eight would have been more bearable. An Endless 8 every two weeks between a new episode.

~ I guess I am the rare one as I am (still) enjoying the series thus far... I dunno... I'm finding some interesting things in each Ep as it goes along.
I have been watching the series (actually) for the characters, story, and the artwork.. as I am keen on such things.
~(thus far and I know I am in a minority) I can feel for Yuki concerning the time loop and having to experience the same thing relentlessly repeatedly.
Many have complained about it - *just being a copy/paste affair* - but it wasn't actually because there are differences.
I guess, people just continually want a Quaker Oats resolution, meaning a an "Instant one" ~ its what people are so used to now-a-days.
If the series/franchise "fails" in the end... then it does... like I have been saying throughout all this...
What has been decided HAS BEEN decided and there's no turning back now...
We *just* have to wait and see what WILL actually occur afterwards and what the (actual) fallout will be.
Because we can't predict that, stranger things have happened, and the end result could be what we don't expected it to be.

If we were placed in the boardroom of the behind the scene(s) discussions and meeting about the Endless Eight, ALL (apparently) within that meeting would have a say, as to what will/would be (recommend) for released to the public.
Thats what meetings are (and should be) all about, and if they *fail* on that point. Then it was a one-sided meeting to begin with.
Anyway ~ who's to say that you (or anyone) wouldn't say... let's repeat that section of the manga/novels (as a joke) or otherwise and see what happens, let's irritate some people and see how far we can take it.

He never even said he didn't care if the whole season was Endless Eight. We all want it to end. He just won't get in a bunch over how it's gone and can wait for when it ends - and it will end.
We're not going to waster our breath screaming over something we have no control over. Not every person is retarded enough to waste their time screaming over things that don't matter.
You know, I too liked this idea, and went into each new episode with excitement and anticipation, however the last two installments (especially the last one) were painful.
I love Haruhi, I think it's not just another Kyoani moe show, it has some witty comedy peculiar to it, and until now, I was of the opinion that the producers were geniuses whose primary intention was to make of Haruhi a great show and not just make it a moe festival a la K-ON (which amazed me for how it's entirely about moe, lacked any substance and didn't care about the silliness of some of its quirks, like Mio's fear of creepy stories and faces).
But I have to admit they missed a great opportunity here, they could have used this loop thing to show many particuarities that could arise from little decisions, Yuki already says it on the ep, why didn't they animate one of these instances without the festival and gold fish scooping, or any of the other part-time jobs?
They could have used these 8th episodes in a way that developed the characters and was fun to watch, they could have uses an episoode for each individual activity of vacation (ending it the same way with Kyon not doing his homework) so it was something different to watch for the audience, but no, they chose the easy way out, and even though they re-animate, they saved themselves a lot of effort.

I'm finding some interesting things through this and I refuse to get my panties in a knot over all of it. I can just wait for the resolution and new episodes when they eventually happen. I didn't even think this second season was going to happen, so the wait won't kill me.
I'm not going to just blast Haruhi because this obviously isn't a fault with the original series, it's the direction of the adaptation. I'm getting tired of all the pissing and moaning over this because, like you said, everyone just wants and instant solution. This has gone on far too long and it makes no sense from ANY standpoint, but people are taking the whining to unbelievable levels.
I'm fine just waiting it out. It's not like there aren't other things to do or watch, either. It'll happen when it happens.
