I've since long came to the conclusion, that many that would refer to themself as geniune otakus which always have their retarded exceptions of Games, Anime and Manga are actually sort of hindering Innovations and Progress. I'm really happy that thought milking the franchise to death, they've choosed to make a quality anime, not a "fanservice" Anime in the literal sense (quite a bit with the implied one, with the swarming pool XD). I mean, isn't the endles 8 actually so much "Haruhi", so it's bleeding it already? It fit's incredibly, and is also quite the tease, with showing the watchers 5 basicly times the same, with you always getting excited if Kyon would finally break the infinite loop by finding out the "Leftover". Let's just you know, WAIT!

1st endless eight was good. 2nd and 3rd are virtually identical (I know, I ran both episodes side by side comparing scripts, they're the same bar about 3/4 lines). 4th was slightly better, but the latest (5th) episode is my fave by far. Better animation, awesome angles like the first series, definitely an awesome ep. With the conclusion a few weeks away (though probably next week) it's building up to something epic, I can feel it.
Yes, the 5th Endless Eight was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara /Haruhi S2 series director, who also directed 2 key eps in S1: TMoHS I and TMoHS VI). Note that Kyon's clock just reached 23:59:59 before screen went to ED.

Those are cheap figurines that come in parts in the first place so all he really did was dismantle them momentarily. There is one decent quality figurine in there that he actually did break but it doesn't matter much.
Not true if you look at the Top right the figurines hair accessory are ripped off, you can also tell that the glue marks left on the feet shows that it was forcefully ripped off. As well with the Max Factory Haruhi legs are broken at parts where it should not. Another fact is the Guitar is also broken in two. These are not cheap Otakus spend well over 10,000 yen for each of these figures, novels are about 2,000 yen each. Maybe it's a ploy from Kyoto to get Otakus to break all their figurine to find some orgasmic conclusion to force them to re-buy the hundreds of thousands yen wasted into these. . .

Those are gashapon figures. Chances are it didn't cost more than 1,000 yen. You can purchase full sets of a gashapon line for typically 6,000 yen. They're not the nice statues that actually cost the 10,000 yen you mentioned.

Aside from the guitars and maybe one leg, nothing there is broken. Gashapon figures usually come in multiples pieces in the first place, and you have to assemble them yourself.

Have you read the novel? it isn't supposed to be like this. IIRC the novel doesn't repeat. Yes, they were in a loop, but it's over quickly... Probably they can make it into 2-3 episodes, but certainly not 5. 8 is Endless and not 8 Episodes :)
And since they're doing the repetition, it would be nice to have other events instead of repeating the same events every time... they can omit the festival and replace it with something else, they can do some other part time job...

This season is a 14 episode run. We've had 6 of them so far, and there's at least 1 more accounted for. The first book was 6 episodes long, so assuming its the same length there's still 1 episode in hand for the fourth book. 14 - 7 = 7.
Not that I'm defending the way they're doing Endless Eight, mind. It does rather take the piss, considering it was a short story, and one published after the fourth book (so that story arc doesn't really need it to work per se - at least, not with this much focus). I think they should have cut it at the first three episodes. Four, tops.

Besides the Disappearance of Haruhi Arc, the rest are pretty boring actually, up until the last volume at least, where the author has left off with that cliffhanger.

Endless Eight is worth watching(or skimming) just for "observing" Yuki. It's a gutsy but creative move by Kyoani in that regard, though I'm sure one of their intention is to save some $$$.
For all haters of Endless Eight:
just let those who enjoy the show every week appreciate it.
If you don't like it, just don't watch it and wait for the next arc. But don't disrespect the work of KyoAni saying that it is crap. I don't know any other studio that would have the guts to air 5-6-7...times the same events.
You get bored the fuck off? So do the fans, me and anyone else, so do KyoAni (cause making the same episodes over and over and changing some details might be boring too), so do the Seiyuus and so does Nagato.
It's a way to put in shape her feeling of boredom that will be a key in the "disappearance" arc.
So don't disrespect also those who approve their idea: they took a risk that most of the studios wouldn't had taken, the episodes are still awesome quality compared to average anime etc...I approve it.
The only thing that would make me mad is that they don't adapt the 4th light novel this season. That's all we've been waiting for.

I believe to shape the feeling of boredom can be achieved by repeating it 2 to 3 times max. 5+ repeats only make most people annoyed.
They took the risk because they know they've got a good material in hand and people would still watch the series (because the novel is good) after this endless stuff ends combined with the fact that KyoAni doing it. Other anime doesn't have that luxury thus they don't dare to take the risk. Look at it this way... this is Haruhi + KyoAni, and people still hate this arc... Can you imagine what if a Gundam series pull this stunt?
I don't believe for one bit that they are doing this because of artistic stuff unless the original author+director+producer said otherwise.
Btw, just for the fun of it, imagine if they pull this stunt in the novel... you would have a whole book just for endless arc which contains 5+ repetition with some little difference in it. What would people think after reading it?
Having said that, I would still watch every episode of Endless Eight, but I wouldn't watch it for the second time. And if they keep this stuff for the DVD/Blu-ray release... what can I say? A whole disc that contains repeats and it would continue on the 2nd disc! Try watching that nonstop and you definitely wont be as calm as Yuki.
Of course every person mileage is different, so it's understandable that some like the approach and some just accepted it the way it is and some hated it. But I ask someone that like this Endless repeat... do you really need this much repeat to get whatever stuff they want to convey, or do you think it can be achieved with less repeat? Does removing some of the repeat will lessen your enjoyment?

Rather than the otaku rage over KyoAni's actions, I would report on how ridiculous those actions are, although there's already one article on it, the situation has escalated. Season 2 so far:
1. Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody
2. Endless Eight start (SOS-dan spend summer vacation as normal)
3. Endless eight mid (Kyon feels dejavu, Nagato looks depressed, Mikuru calls Kyon and it's explained that they're repeating summer over and over again. Kyon tries to stop it by calling to Haruhi before she leaves at the end, but can't think of what to say)
4. Same as above.
5. Same as above.
6. Same as above.
Endless Eight still has no conclusion. Even if next week finally ends it, that's 6 episodes, 4 with exactly the same plot, near-identical dialog, just with new animation and clothes on the characters. The rumor is 6 episodes, but another more frightening rumor is that they'll go for 8 for maximum troll factor just because it's called endless eight. Either way, KyoAni will spend just over half a season (or more) re-animating and re-voicing the same shit. I'd say that's much more interesting than a bunch of otaku breaking their merchandise.
And also, to the commenters here, if you're enjoying endless eight - lol.

i mean, i sometimes watch entire series which i don't like, just because i like some of the characters. for example i never really liked the setting of nanoha strikers, but in fact a damn beautiful 1/4 scale figure of the grown up nanoha is standing right before me on the desk while i'm typing this. and my heart screams when i think about seeing it broken to pieces.
also i don't get all the guys who only whine about the prices of these broken figures. if i would destroy a figure, just because it is cheap, could i really call myself a fan of the character? does it really matter how expensive or rare a figure is if i like the character?

All i know is that the "Endless Eight" Arc is annoying as hell.
Like it or hate it. endless eight is important to the over all storyline.
Yes they are draging it out.
Yes your watching the same thing over and over, but when (or if) they ever reach the disappearence story then it will be worth it.
If you've already read the novels then you'll know what i'm getting at. This is the story that is esentially the cause of 'the disappearence'.
So sit back, take a few deep breaths and enjoy. and see if you can spot the limited but essential character development.
(personally i thought the fifth one was the best of the new episodes to date. it had the feal of the old ones)
yeah its so important that they dedicated one whole book in the novel to it. Oh wait, it was only one FREAKING CHAPTER in the novel. Please stop making it sound as deep as it is, as it stands, the only way for them to redeem this anime is for it to have a different ending than that of the novel. If it follows the novel ending, then its 6 episode wasted. I am watching a anime, not some artsy film that i have to look for subtle changes every episode to keep myself entertained. If season 2 is still the 14 episode run, and they remove the sigh arc, that means the disappearance arc, which is a major story arc, at most 7 episode, which makes it only 1 episode over this stupid endless eight arc, which in the novel has only ONE freaking chapter.

Kyoto Animation should watch this episode and make the 7 episode (all bets are off and Kyon should anything he wants) Fuck mikuru, kill komizum, reap Haruhi, and finally reside from the SOS brigade then the last one is one more time normal and its over.

I worked at an amusement park one year where more than half of the other employees were from overseas. In the complex where I lived, there were quite a few Argentinians and other South Americans; and that summer, the World Cup was on. There were loads of Latin American workers from 18-25 in rec room of our complex watching a game, and I decided to watch a bit. At one point I made some kind of a joke about soccer, not a mean joke at all, and this one Argentinean guy started eying me. Afterward I shut up. I later learned from my roommate, another foreign national, that I was playing a dangerous game by making jokes about soccer unless I wanted to end up in a bloody pulp.
When I think of the look that guy gave me, I think what my roommate said may have been true. Now, if I try to imagine what some of these guys would do if they tuned in when a match was supposed to be on or actual bought a ticket to one, only to be greeted with some kind of teasing promotional stunt, I can't even imagine what would happen to the organizers. And if it happened more than once, I can assure you, there would be violence. So before one accused the otaku of being a whining child when his entertainment needs are not met, consider the alternative---the SOS-Dan Production Crew getting jumped and quite literally beaten whenever they appeared in public.
How can it be a series?? Except for a few differences per ep every one of them was exactly the same. Even the Director of the original apologized for it. Kyoto Animation is even back stepping from it.
Just because it's a Haruhi title doesn't make it a good anime. Get your headds out of your butts and see it for what it is

The initial episode was bland, but I would have been okay with them devoting three episodes to it provided they changed some things here and there instead of just xeroxing those first three like they did. Three episodes would've been enough to tell the story in its entirely. The fact that they're up to seven and still haven't stopped, though...
