wiimote-strap-failure.jpg

An apparent case of strap failure ends in disaster for overly rambunctious 2ch Wii user, although the effect is at least interesting to look at.

Of course, whether the fault lies with the user or with Nintendo’s made in China strap is an open question, perhaps best settled by a class action lawsuit, some might say…

More obviously a Sony failure for not installing ballistic front glass on their TVs.

    Or a Nintendo-Sony compatibility failure.

Seriously though, he had to break the TV that was more expensive in name only.

I believe if they didn't ship with straps AT ALL, people would thrash it about while making sure they had a better grip. The strap gives them a false sense of security, so they swing like crazy idiots.

I dunno about that necessarily. I certainly don't think it's that much less infrequent with the strap unused, considering that I've not heard many cases of the strap being prone to failure.

    This happened to me too.

I was playing Wario and my hands were sweaty, and slipped out of my fingers. The band snapped, and it flew a few inches past my widescreen and into the wall and broke.

I had a small stroke during the slow-motion watching of it flying through the air.

Plexiglass shielding is significantly cheaper than a new 1080p 40+ inch LCD screen.

But my Wii's been gathering dust for a very long time, so it's pretty harmless.

I have never used the straps (or even attached) on my Wiimotes and I've never come even close to losing grip of it (also without the Wiimote "condom")

There's absolut. NO game that needs that amount of trashing to play properly

Agreed, I can't believe the people who've actually broke things or hurt themselves with the remotes. It only takes a small amount of movement to perform actions, and swinging harder doesn't make it work better. Plus, the remote shown even had the wiimote condom on, how the hell did they manage that?

Why the fuck are these guys using force to play Wii? You can basically play every game by just making short (but fast) movements, no need to play Wii Sports Baseball and use the same force you would if you actually played Baseball. The strap is basically there to protect you from *dropping* the Wiimote, not throwing it.

um, i never use the strap that comes with the wiimote cause it cuts off circulation for me but never once has the wii mote slipped out of my hand, let alone got thrown across the room. i think the problem is not the strap but the idiot user for not realising that your not supposed to be swinging your arms around full force with playing a wii game. it does not take much for the wiimote to register your movement.

You've got to be retarded to break the screen when Nintendo actually gives you 1) a strap (too bad this one broke) 2) this Wiimote protector. People have also see tons of videos of flying wiimotes, then you'd better watch out.

I've got sweaty hands, but I've NEVER EVER experienced something like a slippery wiimote. It didn't even fell off my hands for once; and I'm quite the agressive guy.

And if you take a look at the controller, you can obviously see that this guy gave a swing when loosening then controller, making the strap the only contact with his hands. Congratulations to the retard.

that appears to be one of the old straps that Nintendo offered a free replacement program for some time ago. I find it humorous that its user sought to get the "wiimote" pad but never replaced the actual strap.

Nintendo signed off a while ago that those old straps were too thin for 'excessive force'.

Miyamoto probably didn't expect the sheer hulklike strength of its mostly retarded fanbase and their wildly frantic flailing.

    a) Didn't use the strap

Either is a fail option which puts the blame on the user itself rather than the product - even in the most frantic games, you never need to swing too hard or fast.
