Certainly a superficially strong performance from Nintendo, but some cannot help but notice that most of the releases come from 2008, with Wii Fit actually a 2007 release, which does not inspire much confidence in Nintendo’s 2009 prospects; how long can they go on selling 2008’s lineup?

Well it is a fact that the Wii has the lowest games to console attachment rate. This chart is just another piece of evidence to support such.
That's nice, but irrelevant to Nintendo as a whole. Their handhelds have been their flagships for over a decade and that won't stop. The Gamecube and Wii are just playing around as far as their bottom line and development goes.
Every other console also loses money, as much as several hundred dollars. Wii + 5 games is still more profit than another console + 10. The market favors Nintendo, and the people playing the games favor Nintendo. Every other attempt at measuring brands is irrelevant.
Sony is going to be the final winner anyway. All hail PS3!
Another misleading article on the videogames industry. There is nothing wrong with "evergreen" games tat continue to sell months after release, heck in the UK Brain Training lasted a few years on the chart and Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii are still selling.
Around here a title has to involve hitting things, making levels go up, or shooting at things to be considered a "game." Hardly anything on the Wii fits the bill.

Oh yea, not to mention that Nintendo turns a profit on their hardware. Every other company needs massive software sales just to break even. Nintendo still trumps. They make more profit just selling games than all of Sony does.
I like games from all sources, so I'm no fanboy, but Nintendo makes great stuff. They also happen to be an incredibly tightly run company. Every attempt so far at the prediction of their downfall has been hilarious, and this one is a stretch even by those standards.

I really haven't been playing Nintendo games this year at all. I think Nintendo needs to take a good hard look at my little sister for an example: she likes to play her DS in my bed in the evenings, usually just wearing one of my T-shirts. She says "Oh, it's hot in here" a lot while she plays Animal Crossing.

About interface they will be getting there. No amount of setup you can compare or customize a pc to handle a power of a next gen console.
There are just some things that are built for speed. For power. and for Editing. Pc is for editing. Precision? you can still use Xbox 360 with their new precision remote that they are trying out.
It far surpasses response time of a mouse and a keyboard a lot if you knew about their new project they are working on.

Like I said, PCs have infinite potential when it comes to performance and functionality.
Besides, games, be it for consoles OR PCs, were made ON PCs. You can't make a new game on a console, unless it has homebrew and an OS like linux installed. But even those games are pretty simple, since no one bothers to make complicated games for consoles, on a console and then expect it to be distributed for free.
When you buy a console, the only thing you can upgrade it with is a bunch of accessories and maybe it's memory module. However, when you buy a desktop PC, you can buy accessories as well as internal hardware to make it run even faster.
Functionality wise, you can use a PC to do many more things that can only be limited to an extent, when you do it on a console. Homework, projects, video editing, art, music, drawing up blueprints to a new apartment building that won't fall to one side when it's half finished...I'd like to see you guys run windows XP on a PSP, or run Vista on an xbox360 without significant glitches.
Performance wise, PCs can be customized in so many ways. For example, one can buy a cream of the crop motherboard and install two Core i7 Extreme microprocessors, then put 8 gigs of ram, a few SSD in RAID config, 3 1GB nVidia graphics cards in SLI config, and you have a gaming machine that has enough firepower to even overpower an xbox360 or PS3, countless times.

Well, as much as I love my PSP (my DS is collecting some dust for over a year now), when it comes to sales charts, you can read it another way:
The sole fact that Nintendo products dominate the chart regardless of how old the games are also states that Nintendo is far stronger in keeping their games selling, and having a stable income of new clients.
And I'd risk saying that even if Nintendo doesn't release too many games this or the next year, the chart will probably still keep that way.
It's not a matter of which console or games are best, it's about Nintendo being a more successful company when it comes to marketing their games and consoles.
That aside, I guess my DS will continue collecting dust... playing too much Pangya and Steambot Chronicles on the PSP...

Lets see, Nintendo is leading in hardware sales everywhere again.
They are likely coming out with a HD version of the Wii in 2010.
Nintendo + Sega = a very large selection of good games no one else will have access to.
Third party producers will happily fall over themselves porting their games to the HD WII if it is close to the 360/Ps3 in hardware.
