Azumanga Daioh Mostly Redrawn, Sakaki Bikini Upgraded

Kiyohiko Azuma’s classic school life manga Azumanga Daioh has recently received a special reprint, which is in fact more of a remake. Some 60% of the illustrations are said to have been redrawn, and Sakaki’s service bikini has received an upgrade.
All this is well received by fans, especially considering how easy it would have been to make only token modifications.

me and my adv azumanga daioh omnibus got nervous, but the new and old seem fairly equal in quality, which is a relief.
The old Sakaki in that picture has leaky boobs. They're all floppin' around, not attractive. Glad to see those saggy, underfilled bloatsacs have gone by the wayside.
And the boy on the bike has become a girl now! I wonder how he feels about that.

I wonder if this will be done for the later volumes as well.
It's understandable for this volume and maybe the next one, since Azuma's art style changed drastically early on and it took a while for the characters to take on their iconic appearances. But the third and fourth volume have pretty much the exact same look as the anime, and aren't all that different from his current style.
Do not want, especially the new design on Sakaki's panties. The old one was perfect and fit with the style of the actual cats; this one looks like a teddy bear.
Also lol @ replacing the one boy in the manga with a girl.

The most likely licensor for a re-translate (if any) would probably be Yen Press. They did Hidamari Sketch awesomely so they have the experience.
Tokyopop suck because they often can't be bothered to include colour pages, yet still charge more than the ones who do (Kodansha, Tanoshimi, etc).
Hmm, some of the panels look simpler (no shine on hair, less use of tone) and yet in others the backgrounds are much improved. Will have to see the reprint in whole before I really pass judgment.
