i doubt anyone will read this since its such a late reply, but this happened in bonita CA a few years ago
we had shad fingerlings falling in peoples backyards
(shad is an anadromous species) brown pelicans were flying out to sweetwater resevour and scooping up mouthfulls of the fish and then dropping some of them on their return flight back to the bay.
