China’s Beautiful Beaches

A Chinese visitor to the “dragon boat races” held recently on China’s southern island of Hainan was speechless when confronted by the beautiful beaches the tropical island is famed for.

Via Heaven.

Although China enjoys impressive rates of economic growth on paper, economists generally treat this figures with scepticism, particularly where the colossal human and environmental cost of China’s rush for growth is concerned; smog and disgusting sites such as these are the visible symptoms of such problems.

Adjusting for such externalities, China’s real rate of growth could be significantly lower, and it is certain that at some point in the future the cost of treating people and cleaning up the mess will be felt, and it will likely not come cheap…

Saying this site isn't racist to China (or any Asian country that isn't Japan) is ridiculous. Why are there never any articles with the GOOD points about China/Korea/etc.? (besides a rare "CHINA HAS HANDJOB HOSPITALS!!! :O")

I too am puzzled why almost every China-related article is negative. Is it because they and Japan are rivals, and this is an otaku website? That's a terrible bias.

And yeah, there are "less developed" areas than in some of the places of China, but most of them aren't nearly this bad. lol? china is in the hole right now because of a variety of reasons, and i highly doubt that this site is "biased negatively towards China" or "promoting Japan as better then the rest of the world". this is a site for interesting news, and this is an interesting story, and if youve noticed, there are a fair amount of horrid stories from japan as well, such as the one about the gang rapers getting off scott free and one of them even applying to be a teacher, only people that have the thought process equivalent of a Japanophile would think that this site promotes a Japanese superiority complex.

every country has its faults, just some have more blatant ones. plus its hard to get many stories out of China these days... ever since they started the whole crackdown on journalists in China for the 20th anniversary of the Tienanmen Square Massacre. oh, the chinese government is so predictable... just like a 10 year old bully... though im not saying that other countries arnt pulling bullcrap as well.

    From dictionary.com:

    "rac⋅ism

    1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
    2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
    3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."

    (see 3)

With articles like "Chinese government hates MMORGs", "China tracks ISPs", and "China's Beautiful *coughcough* Beaches" (this one), how isn't there racism here?

It's not so much racism as much as it is simply a cultural hatred of a country that doesn't conform to Western standards, which the Western countries insist are universal.

So there may be good places in China, there may be innovative Chinese products, but you'll never hear about it on TV or anywhere in "mainstream" websites because they feel a compulsive need to create and maintain a dirty, backwards, and generally inferior image of China.

Then again, this is a site mostly devoted to Japan, so the editors probably share some Japanese world views. I wouldn't be particularly surprised even if this site officially supported the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

Because the Chinese government is about as 'communist' or benevolent as every other authoritarian oligarchy that has ever emerged from human civilization?

I think this discussion in general is all besides the point. While any number of people might see these images and feel a twinge of nationalistic superiority, the real takeaway is that the Chinese have to live with that shit and it's terrible. As long as any nation is willing to defect from environmental regulation and accept being the world's garbage dump the location of disposal may change but the practice will remain. People in general have to pay for adequate waste disposal and a lack of cooperation on the issue just results in the can being kicked down the road.

    Putting things in context...
    1- Yes, it's a disgusting beach
2- It's ONE beach alone. And it's sad that some people would be surprized to know, most countries have places exactly like that one.
3- If China is in such a state, with all the environmental problems it has, all developed countries are to blame, because they are the ones doing it.

It's the corporations on developed countries that explore cheap work and spends nothing on the whole environmental issue.

Playing along and actually feeding a dictatorship that censors what's truly happening in China so they can keep exploiting the chinese labor and keep ignoring laws and the environment.

And in the end of all the chain, are we consumers buying cheap clothes, electronics, and whatever, financing such beautiful sceneries.

So maybe some people there sould think twice before judging the current state of China or it's beaches...

    Comment by Artefact

Sure, some people have a right to hate America. Every country is hated by someone, but generally...

    1. They're people living in different countries hearing biased news, and have never actually been here so they're uneducated about America.

    2. They live here, but it's lyke...kewl to haet America and Bush, rite?? ANARCHAYYY

Of course, there's people that don't find America for them, and they'd rather live somewhere else, but they have no right to bash America/Americans.

I live in America, in Maryland, and I think that it's beautiful. Where I live is clean, and we keep it clean. Of course any city big city will be dirty, like Baltimore, but everywhere else is wonderful. I used to live in Alaska, and when I moved, I took a trip to Canada since I was close to the border. The people there are wonderful, but their cities were more clean than American cities when I went there, and pollution in Canada is becoming a bigger problem than before.

TL;DR Bashing of America really isn't deserved, since every place has problems with being dirty.
