A man sliced off his own penis with a hot knife after he was denied a marriage with his sweetheart, due to her being of the wrong class.
The 25-year-old man, a resident of Egypt’s southern province of Qena, had earnestly sought to persuade his father to let him marry his sweetheart, who happened to be of a lower social class than their prestigious family.
Despite trying for two years to persuade him, he was denied permission by his obstinate father.
Apparently at the end of his tether, he took matters into his own hands; he heated a knife and then lopped off his penis.
He was soon hospitalised, but doctors were not able to reattach his member.

This wasn't a 'brainless act'. Doing something like this has historically been the ONLY way to get a marriage that the parents disapprove of approved by them, for fear of the male in question offing himself or showing that he will go to this extreme to keep from marrying someone else.

i believe the 'fear' of christians that you speak of is the verse that 'the only path to heaven is through me, Jesus christ, your saviour' or some regards to that.
