Rise Kujikawa Persona 4 Figure by Wave

rise-kujikawa-wave-figure-001.jpg

The striking and distinctive character designs the Persona series of games has enjoyed have enjoyed equally striking figure incarnations, and this rendition of Persona 4‘s schoolgirl idol Rise Kujikawa, who happens to be voiced by tsundere queen Rie Kugimiya.

The figure looks set to become a favourite amongst Persona fans and beyond, both for its style and for the highly erotic attention given to her zettai ryoiki and coquettishly fluttering skirt’s contents…

The figure, by Wave Corporation, is in 1/8th scale and due to be released in October.

What a coincidence! I just bought Persona 4 last week, and I love it. Only problem is that I'm 32 hours in, and I'm probably not even halfway through the game.

I've always wondered what it's like to fit being a "superhero" into a high school schedule; this game answers that question.

Well it isn't THAT long. It depends on one's pace, you could easily be past half if you are playing at a faster than usual pace.

Oh, good. I'm still in early July. And I'm trying to save Rise. (Or rather I did save Rise but lost to the immediately following boss. Load game...) Just four more days until the rain hits. MUST... WIN.

By the way, am I the only one guilty of last-minute schedule cramming for boss fights? I haven't lost because of it, yet, though it pumps my RPG andrenaline.

Well, my objective isn't to finish it as quickly as possible, but rather to get as many social links as possible. I don't give a damn about the item-quests, though.

Is it pysically possible to get all social links in one game?

Also, isn't there also a romantic element to this game? Does it in itself offer any battle advantages?

    Comment by Anonymous
    05:32 02/06/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Yes its possible to do all social links in one game, but you have to keep to a rather tight schedule meaning if it's your first game, you probably will miss out on some.
Maxing social links gives you more xp for newly created persona and maxing those links of your party will unlock their final persona, which can be a big help (most of them lose their elemental weakness, sadly Yukiko does not). Last piece of advice: Don't go into the TV on December 23rd or you'll miss the christmas event with your favorite girl :)

-1: Being fluent in both English and Japanese and having played both US and Japan versions of the game. All else equal. Japanese voice job is just better. The English VAs just either seem to not have a passion for their jobs, or act way over the top like William Shatner. Not the worst dub game I have ever played though.

Chie certainly was the worst to start with but really grew into it and was well suited at the end. With a silent mc though Yoskue absolutley makes the game, especially as a familiar voice from 3, along with a few others dotted around.

All in all both dubs were superb and that not a phrase I often use

Persona had always a larger audience at mind, hence the high school, teenager group setting, and some simplification of gameplay (I'm specifically talking about Megami Ibunroku Persona, aka Persona 1, to be fair).

I've watched the first Persona to come by, and I can say, I've always disliked it (as many others).

They even changed Kaneko to Soejima at Persona 2, and from that point onwards. (It's not like Soul Hackers, where he was from the beggining) That speaks as to how Atlus sees the series.

    Comment by Anonymous
    01:03 02/06/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

That speaks some, not it all (never implied that). Still, there's an enormous difference between changing it from Trauma Center, and from a spin-off of Atlus' mothership RPG typically associated with Kaneko illustrations since from the beggining (that's speak as how Atlus see the purpose of this spin-off). So, don't make silly comparisons. The level of importance between Kaneko in both series is much different.

Still, that's just some, not all. (But still something)

You should also mention they changed Shoji Meguro after Second Opinion, in Trauma Center series.

And please, no comparisons of Soejima to Masuko.

The story of the new Persona games suck. If I wanted animu tripe with dating sim elements, I'd play Sakura Taisen.

Nocturne has plenty of plot, it just doesn't spoon feed it to you like you're a nine year old. The characters don't need to be focused on, for the battle of ideologies is the focus.

I don't mind animu. I love the Tales games, Star Ocean, etc... but my problem is that the original Persona, aside from the art, was more influenced by certain j-horror movies (Eko Eko Azarak). It had a neat atmosphere and a complex battle system, but they dumbed down the battles severly (in P2, actually) and started going for a completely different, more generic style. Understandable, but dissapointing.

Yes, I pretty much enjoy all the income the weeaboo game (which has a larger fanbase, obviously) brings to us, real Megaten players, of a smaller fanbase.

I throughly enjoy all the money being redirected at the main games, being leeched off weeaboos with their XDs and pairings by the money-maker spin-off. It is a shame to have such games in the franchise, but it must be done, nevertheless.

Persona fanboys aren't really hardcore Megaten players. It is a known fact that Persona is at the bottom of hierarchy. You may enjoy Persona if you wish, but if you are a serious Megaten player, then don't deny that Persona is worst than the main games (DDSses and SMTs).

Just because I was explaning how I used it, it doesn't mean I was really doing anything other than clarifying my use of the term (partially because someone said "What makes P4 more weeabo than the other entries? In the end they’re all Jap games"). Much to the same way I never said "bawww weeaboos ruining my hardcore".

I guess it WAS a mistake to trying to discuss this seriously...

Also, I understood that you play casually, by your posts. Correct me, if I am mistaken. In advance, forgive me for that, if you're not really casual player. Also, I have no stigma attached to casual players, so it wouldn't be a problem (although you seem to have, judging by your answer).

Did I just seriously get called a casualfag who doesn't understand the term weeaboo? For daring to enjoy Persona for what it is alongside the rest of Megaten?

I've played a little bit of most of the spinoffs and main series at some point and intend to go back and complete them all. Each one is different on purpose. I've played P2/P3/P4 (waiting for the PSP remake of 1 here) and honestly they're what got me interested in the rest of the Megaten universe. As much fun as I am having playing Nocturne right now, I am enjoying it for different reasons that I would Persona or even DDS. Persona arguably has the most well written characters and plotlines while Nocturne and DDS are darker and more demon/morals/ethics based with your decisions altering paths and such. I like negotiating with demons and knowing my decisions will affect my ending but I wouldn't say the characters are as deep as and well written as Persona's and I wouldn't say combat is as hard or the world is as dark/moral as the main series and so on.

You fail to see that each one is different for a reason and annoying fangirls and fanboys now pervade your precious series. Unfortunately, these annoying people are fans, as much as you or I would hate to accept this, they have as much of a right to enjoy it as we do. If I hated something based on how fans acted, I would wind up hating everything ever created.

You're jut whiny and snobby because bawww no post apocalypse for you this time.

My first comment wasn't that serious, the one about true men. Just used the chance to state what the majority of real Megaten players thinks, since most people on this site certainly didn't belong to this group. Rather, most people here only played Persona 3 and 4. Some people got too offended by it.

    You enjoy Persona. That's fine.

    It’s fine to like certain other spinoffs and such but going bawww weeaboos ruining my hardcore just screams snobby elitism;

I never said that. I said that Persona is inferior, and weaaboos plays it (and compose the majority of Persona's fanbase -- that's the point I was referring).

Obviously, I've let some of my feelings into the discussion, since I never thought I would really get any reply besides "NO U SUCKZ DIEE!!1 PERSONA HAS KAWAI PAIRINGS OK? >XD LET ME GO BAK TO MY NAOTO CARAMELLDANSEN VIDEO NYAA". Are these people real Megaten fans? Persona is aimed at a larger audience (both in Japan, and the West), hence the number of depressed teenagers, high school setting, some moe, and dating sim mechanics.

Like I said, I play all of them, and each spinoff/the main series has their own things to offer and their own strengths and weaknesses; I see none as better than the other.

That's your right, as well as your opinion. But don't try to say that Persona is technically (gameplay, customization, mechanics, systems, etc) better or equal than the other games. I could put story there too (since it's so blatantly obvious to most people who prefers less-teenagerish and more serious stories), but I recognize that's more subjective, and even though I may sound an arrogant asshole, I'm not that arrogant.

I see none as better than the other. It really just depends on what I’m in the mood for as to which one I play.

You play casually. There's nothing wrong with that.

Also, I don't mean to sound that casual players somehow can't comment which game is better than what, applying to the typical tourneyfag attitude. As long as you're logical, we're on equal grounds.

People like Persona. You like Persona. Fine. But Persona will never logically (due to its mechanics and setting) be able to be on the same ground as the other games (maybe a little close to the first Devil Summoner).

In the West, most people got to know and played Persona. Most people. But for us older players, Persona is that poorer money-maker games. This phenomenom happens in the West too, but with more popular series. Think of Sonic fans with games such as Sonic 2006. There are better examples, but that's the best I could come off.

Since most people got to know the series first by Persona, they weren't able to feel the impact as older players. Take, for example, Touhou fighting games. Most people who started on Scarlet Weather Rhapsody don't understand the criticism the game gets from IamP players. They have no base to. It feels like a retrocess to the series, and that's not something most people like (I'm not saying this is SWR's case).

That said, Persona has an audience to fill. Persona is important to Atlus. I recognize its importance to Atlus financial success. I don't wish to see game disappearing, alongside the rest of "casuals" who don't take the series seriously.

But, Persona (specifically 3 and 4) is not on technical equal grounds as DDS or SMT III. Although people may be able to enjoy them equally, or even more than DDS or SMT III (and that's a right everyone has), Persona will never be the top-ranked Megaten game for real, serious Megaten fans (casual or not).

That said (again), I mostly wanted to express my human frustrations at the Persona spin-off series rather than discussing the matter seriously. That's it.

Also, I'm not reviewing this text for grammar mistakes and such, so forgive me.

tl;dr = It's okay to like Persona, or hold it on personal equal or superior grounds to the other games of the Megaten series. But don't expect persona opinions to have validity over technical opinions, when discussing with real Megaten fans (not those weaaboos who can't finish one sentence without XD, and spend the whole day watching Naoto caramelldansen or dancing Hare Hare Yukai or cosplaying poorly at cons or other typical weaaboo behavior).

^ I know that's prejudice. But I'm yet to find one serious Megaten fan who does that... And the majority of casual Megaten fans seem to do exactly that.

Glossary: Weaaboo. I've always used it in the sense of "retarded extrovert otaku who only watches mainstream animes, writes using terms such as kawaii or sugoi, often grammatically wrong, etc". Not that there is a problem in watching mainstream animes, but rather only watching Naruto and Haruhi, etc. It's such a shame that I have to explain so many things.

    just cut this out, okay?
people see the world in their own ways.
    everything is simply relative.

"a good weeaboo is still good" or
"a good weaaboo is still a weeaboo",
    that's individual choice.

just play ur favorite game peacefully and say stfu to complainers!

I've never said you all can't appreciate Persona as much or even more than the other games (as I've said in my long post). Persona is inferior, gameplay wise. This is based on facts. And while you all have the the right to like it even more than the other games, it will always be inferior, when speaking of technical facts. Anyone stating otherwise is simply because of his or her personal opinion (i.e. they like Persona), since it's almost impossible to make Persona look comparable to the other games, when using, universal, logical facts.

It's relative whether you like or not, and it doesn't matter for me if you're a weeaboo or not. You can enjoy Persona more than the main games. You can be casual or hardcore, weeaboo or not, and enjoy Persona more. But serious Megaten (a small group, it's not just about how much you like it, it's how much you are into it) players will never say that Persona is superior or equal to DDSses, MTs or SMTs. They may even like it (not my case), but will never say Persona is better than any of these. Simply based on logical facts, not on personal tastes relating to the story or character development (which are still relative).

    tl;dr

No, thanks. The truth is enough, really. Thanks for the offer, though. I appreciate your kindness. You even offered it to me two times. Such an effort must be recognized.

You 'real Megaten' players make me sick - who cares who enjoys what parts of the series as long as they enjoy it? Persona was originally meant as a parody/funnier version of the main, darker games. Atlus themselves realized everyone needs a break now and then. The Personas have the most insanely detailed, realistic characters of any of the series as well, period.

It's fine to like certain other spinoffs and such but going bawww weeaboos ruining my hardcore just screams snobby elitism; you should be glad they like any part of what is already an insanely niche series to begin with.

Like I said, I play all of them, and each spinoff/the main series has their own things to offer and their own strengths and weaknesses; I see none as better than the other. It really just depends on what I'm in the mood for as to which one I play.

What makes P4 more weeabo than the other entries? In the end they're all Jap games. You need not feel superior simply because the games you like are darker, 'deeper' and more difficult.
