Improbably good looking samurai anime Sengoku Basara earlier attracted attention for the inexplicable differences in the broadcast versions currently airing, but these now pale in comparison to the latest comparison showing off the various versions of the anime to have come to pass…
Never has a single title known so much variety in such similar scenes?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

roku henge!
WAT
lol DVD fail
FUCK THE DVD AND ALL OTHER SHITS I LOVE THE CBC
Have to agree with that sentiment.... the Blu-Ray thing has that NOSE.... UGH! Talk about square-nose!
CBC's got that piggy dot nose. the others make him look too messy or generic. I think the BD one makes him look the most mature and cleanly drawn...
it's just perspective, whatever you focus on. I didn't even think about the noses til I read your comment and looked back... but I stuck with my decision on BD.
DVD version looks like shit, VHS ..looks like 90s anime.
Ya the DvD looks horrible and the VHS... AKIRA!!!!
agreed!! XD
FUCK U FUCK U
agreed...I think the VHS is actually the best of these...
Damn you're right! That's TETSUO!!
He is 100% Tetsuo ..
I got the same impression as you did when I first checked this comparison!
funny!
the DVD's face looks strangely constipated and ugly
I believe I saw the non-shaded version, and I was thinking, "Good job guys, I like how you 'stylized' it to make people think you're artsy." Little did I know they weren't being lazy, they secretly putting in six times the effort. I'm impressed, though I'm not sure why.
Oh wait, yeah, it's shopped. I guess I'm thinking of a different scene.
lol the DVD version is retarded and the VHS version looks like Akira.
Exactly what I thought for the VHS
Hahahaha. As if they'd make a VHS or LD version in 2009.
What in god's name?
I like the TBS version though
is this shoop?
LD and DVD is abyssamal and for VHS i darn swore it use akira face!
Wait... VHS still exist?? 0_0
Quite obviously shopped.
Does LD still exist!?
I see. Arty made a funny.
I've been troll'd!
What? They still use Laserdisc in Japan?
sonna koto wa arienai...
shopped, but i think it's still MANLY
shopped , actually only the cbc and tbs are real
Heh I get the joke for the most part, except the DvD.
Wow, the DVD looks horrible in that comparison.
They still making VHS in Japan? Interesting.
These differences are ridiculous. Are they hopping people will buy multiple versions to see all the differences (well, I guess someone had to to do the comparison)?
I have to wonder if they are trying to confuse file sharers/fansubbers.
Fortunately, this isn't a title I'm interested in. I'd probably pass on it anyway with all this version stupidity going on.
They still do in Aussie but~
...they're all shops, genius.
They still do in Africa.
The answer is always Laserdisc. I love that ancient shitty technology.
Agreed. Optical discs the size of records = AWESOME.
Inb4 -
OYAKATASAMA!!
HIJIKATASAMA!!
I almost read that as hijack-sama...
It's like the creators decided to pit animation studio against animation studio, to figure out who the best was.
So six different studios made scene variations, knowing people would vote and digest and compare them.
CBC - looks like Eden of the East style, almost Ghibliesque
VHS totally made me think Akira lol.
KANEEEEEEEEEDAA
TETSUOOOOOYAKATASAMA!
@ VHS
FUCK CANNOT UNSEE
And LD look like Escaflowne.
gotta go with TBS on this one.
Are these really real?
BD looks like Ghost in the Shell movie with Ninja Scroll shadow style
LD looks like G Gundam
VHS looks definitely like Akira
I vote for BD and VHS for the late 80 or early 90-ish look...
Second.
DVD, VHS and LD can go to hell.
TBS
TBS
The Best Shiznit!
*refer to little nicky
This has got to be a troll of some sort...
LD version feels like something off Clamp (namely X and Tokyo babylon)
AS long as GG subs doesnt touch it i'm good , who needs a bunch of worthless trolls that drop series in the middle of a season.
LD, DVD, VHS > WTH! my eye~~~!!!
Now which one again is photoshopped? :P
I just checked the calendar to make sure I hadn't travelled back in time to April 1st.
No. I hadn't.
I lol'd, all the same. Quite the amusing shoop; it definitely tricked me for a moment. I wonder why they made the DVD version look like that, though..?
why?!!
why~? do they have to change their look anyway-??
i like teh blu-ray or tbs ..
err.. laser disc?? we still have that??
CBS and Blue Ray are both good
Blue Ray is much more realistic.
Gotta say like the. Personally oldschool vibe. Personallly though i really like the vhs and LD versions along with TBS. I think going back to animes oldschool styles might actually be a way to help deal with th boom so it may be interesting to see wich one sells more. Of course provided this isn't one giant troll
The LD and VHS should have given this one away...do they still distribute anime in those media?
Btw this is clearly shopped.
TBS > Blu Ray > Everything else.....
Those are the only two that matter.
But seriously... WTF is going on? Too many versions....
You do realise this is a piss take right, simply because certain scenes seem to vary between the TBS and CBC airing.
There is no Blu-ray, LD (lol) or VHS (lol) release of this series. Just DVD.
Fuck the faces...
VHS hair-lo ftw
This made me LOL
Mmmm, TBS version.
I'd hit that so hard.
How do you think about?
http://www.equalitynow.org/english/actions/action_3301_en.html
I saw it elsewhere. You should email me such things as I can no longer read all the comments - thanks all the same.
I didn't think anyone did releases on VHS no more.
The problem is.. every1 single one look hideous ;d
lol.TheDvd.
Oh U Artefact~ you made me LOL XDD
Why did they spend the time making different animations?
Only certain scenes look slightly different between the TBS and CBC version. It's not like the whole thing is different.
As to why they did that, probably because they were undecided as to which frames to go with for certain climatic scenes, so chose to send different versions to both stations.
This in turn would lead fans to watch the show on both channels, making the show more successful.
Looking at the description for the DVD release at CD Japan, it doesn't list anything about multiple versions, so we could either end up with something new and different of Production IG deciding on the 'proper' version to be used, which ever they class that as...
As for some of the people not realizing the artcile image is fake; lol!
VHS and LD haven't be used for donkeys years and this show isn't getting a Blu-ray release.
This can't be for real.... incredible.
Are you idiots?
That's a TOTAL FAKE, bad photoshop work!!
Vhs is Akira...
Headdesk for everyone who doesn't understand the pic/joke.
.... my head hurts.
Blu-ray looks too... Code Geassy. Going with the CBC version.
And what the hell, VHS release? DVD releases are already dying and someone is still releasing in VHS.
Wtf, how could people vote for BD when it looks so horrible =/
human psychology states that 1st is always best!
haha now i have trouble telling the fakes apart
Hmm CBC or TBS, there isn't too much difference, at least not so much I would give a fuck.
I'm going with CBC
the BD version looks as if he was a sand nigger
the TBS version looks as if he was a gay male vocalist
the CBC version looks as if he uses make-up
the DVD version looks as if he is a badly-drawn Chinese
the VHS version looks as if he is a 12-years-old kid.
i'll choose LD.
I'm disappointed in how few of us chose DVD out of general contrariness. :/
It always works for that girl in the background of the Kannagi pics.
there is no blueray, vhs or laserdisc release.
What's with people liking the CBC? It looks absolutely terrible. VHS had the best face.
lol DVD
looks like im gonna have to go and search for all the different versions to be a true fan
Forget about the graphic effect enhancements and look for the graphic itself, as the nose for example. Which one is better drawn?
Like Mike said, VHS looks like an Akira character design.
I'd add, LD looks like Clamp's work.
DVD... failed. Looks like a chinese copy.
BD looks good, but what's with the long nose?
TBS seems to be the original Charadesign.
M.
TBS, but they all look hideous ^^;
wat? is this real D: dvd wtf!!!!
Blu-ray Disk
It's a Sony!
DVD super fail VHS looks better.. but CBC and BD are the best looking
VHS looks like something Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) would create LOL
TBS looks the Best
I give 2nd place to BD
I am quite impressed how they used actually different styles of highlighting, shading, etc. extremely befitting the medium formats of the animation eras: VHS 80's, laser disc 90's, BD 2k's. Only DVD looks like utter shit, more like low budget late 80's.
In my opinion the TBS version still looks best but I'm also pretty interested in watching the laser disc version.
nice fakes
watched the cbc one
At VHS: KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
