I'd never heard of it and decided to check it's wiki. WTF is right. Or more like LOL.

"The short manga is a famous meme on the internet (Japanese internet forums especially), largely considered the representative work of Yamakawa and responsible for the revived popularity in his works."

That basically explains it. Never doubt the power of internet memes.

Honestly, I think you all hate these only because they're so popular. So it's inconsenquential if these are out/in, since all your hate is not determined by the manga in question, but its popularity and amount of retarded fans. The names would just change according to the situation. Other mangas would be being hated here, if Bleach and Naruto weren't so popular in the West.

Thank goodness Naruto and Bleach aren't in it.

No disrespect to the more decent folks who likes them (they're different from the more extremely rabid "tards" of all nationalities), but I'm just getting sick and tired with its ever dragged out storyline already, I'm amazed I'm still following the series, simply because I always insist on finishing what I've started, no matter how inadvertedly. Perhaps even this will change as I grow even older.

If I spend too long watching them in one go, a few brain cells would fry, which is why I totally avoid their fillers now.

No offence to their authors, who are no doubt hard working and talented artists who sadly has become the victims of their own successes.

Anyway, most titles on the list are pretty much expected, like FMA, Conan, Nodame alongside the likes of Dragonball, One Piece and Fist of North Star. Though I'm not too familiar with 9, 10 and 11.

I constantly see no. 10 "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo" in the Shounen Jump roster, is it a long running slapstick series. Wonder what's that about?

But honestly Gintama and SZS are the only ones on there I care about. I could care less about One Piece, personally, and I have tried over and over and over again to like it but I just can't. Oda's good at being goofy and creating detailed worlds, but not ones that can draw me in well enough.

only thing keeping me reading Naruto is cause I've been reading it for too long already. It's really bad, both plot and drawings imo. I don't even know why it became so popular here in the US.

I don't get HunterxHunter too. It started off with a really strong start, but now it feels like the author is half-assing it. I already gave up that one.

Surprised Yu Yu Hakusho isn't on the list.

Some of you guys don't get it, too. SLAM DUNK was HUGE! YEAH! Grew up with it, and I still love it till this day. JOJO too.

Naruto is popular in the US because the fangirls think the male characters are, and I quote, "smexy".
The male characters usually have at least one trait that fangirls love.
    1. bishounen good looks (even the non-bishounen ones are somehow morphed by a fangirls "bishie vision")
    2. a tragic past (so common in Naruto that it makes me wonder how certain characters think they're more special because of it when most characters had it just as bad, if not worse)
    3. emo (most likely cause by their tragic past which should be called an average ninja childhood)
    4. wears make-up (a ninja needs to look fabulous at all times)
    5. has a very strong emotional bond with another male character (usually a little too strong if you ask me)

It's sad that good anime series have only 1 or 2 seasons while Naruto/Bleach etc. get to be 100,200,300..episodes. It's like "Bald&Beautifull" being aired for 20 years and Futurama being cancelled after 4th season. Crap sells better and longer, maybe it's because crap isn't going to get worse or burn out. You can add new opponents, allies, techniques and stuuf almost forever, but it's hard to keep a good humor and plot quality for many seasons.

    Naruto has a decent plot/story.
Bleach is alright too... Story wise.

And Futurama was actually a stupid cartoon with no plot whatsoever... So I'm surprised you even mentioned it.

And yeah... opponents/allies/techniques etc. can be endlessly... but you're forgetting that both naruto and bleach have a main enemy, though naruto's story isn't even so much based on their opponents but on the story between sasuke and naruto (imo).

Naruto started like a total rip off of One Piece in the "tragic pasts" and the "I wanna be the most important known in my world!" but it got more interesting in his own way. But now is getting way to slow for some fans, and I agree... The desings are kinda messy some times. So I think it's ok if it isn't in this list.

Bleach was great at first as well... Now is getting a lot of action and shonen fights... Awesome fights, boring plots. xD

Death Note IS awesome, but when you see other "Intelligence" series (GITS in example) you realize that Death Note was nothing but a teenager logistic battle.

One Piece is right to be there 'cause of this:

1.- It started a "Dragon Ball" type of protagonists WITH emotional things...
2.- It makse you laugh if you like the characters.
3.- It has VERY original and out of the lot desings.
4.- When you think that it can't surprise you anymore... It surprise you.

Away from this. JOJO's rlz. So does Hokuto No Ken. And the all time loved Kochikame!

Yea that's a very good point. I was thinking why isn't the Negima manga in the list there when it is definitely more entertaining than a few titles up in the list there...but 10 years old won't understand why it is entertaining or interesting.

I remember I used to love shonen stuff like Dragonball and some robot anime, and there was about it. I only became interested in romance, drama type manga/anime title when I became older...

To be honest, I think the manga of Negima has grown a lot in terms of the plot...it's really amazing how much depth it has became from it's initial inspiration of Harry Potter to now a world of its own.

It's good to see plot becoming better and better, unlike titles such as Bleach and Naruto which the author don't even know what they are doing or should do with their stories anymore...

    02:16 08/05/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

Was? Negima is still going on and constantly getting better unlike most long lasting series. While Negima started out as an ecchi harem manga, the mangaka was able to successfully transition it into a shounen (though still very ecchi). Negima isn't the best but it's also not over yet.

    hail One Piece!!!

negima was good...no doubt...but to put it in a top ten list kinda asking too much...there's too many ecchi harem manga already...choosing "which one is better" depends entirely on ur choice/taste in genre...so to say "negima is the best" entitled to ur opinion....at least IMHO...

    03:36 08/05/2009 # ! Neutral (0)

I think Akamatsu did a great job the way he transitioned Negima into a shounen. I started reading a manga that was like Love Hina mixed with Harry Potter and before I knew it I was reading Dragon Ball mixed with Tenchi Muyo. I liked Negima when it was an ecchi harem but I love it as an ecchi shounen (though I do wish that it would focus a little more on previously established harem elements).

And anyway, there is little historical evidence that the "Ninja" class existed. There were Japanese assassins, sure, but there were assassins in every country through the world's history.

People love to point Mansen Shukai (1676) as evidence. However, just because it was written in 1676 doesn't make it historical proof. The Mansen Shukai (万川集海) is not history; just read the table of contents and you can tell that much. It's a compilation of "ninjutsu" techniques, kind of like a martial arts manual. Considering that the term "ninjutsu" wasn't even really coined until after the Edo period started, that makes it suspect to start with. Remember, specialized martial art "schools" in Japan with their "kata" and "waza" were quite rare pre-Edo, and barring a handful, didn't exist--people trained in overall military matters (horsemanship, spearmanship, riflery, etc) like modern "boot camp" instead of specializing in one "jutsu" exclusively. It wasn't until the peace of the Edo (and hence, the lack of a need for any "ninja" in the first place) that martial arts changed from pure military training to the kind of strict codified martial arts we see today. That doesn't make the Mansen Shukai useless--it's valuable in learning how the Sengoku/Momoyama equivalent of "special ops" would be undertaken, but it doesn't make a single step towards proving the existence of ninja clans training in the mountains and hiring their services out to whatever samurai would take them. Nobody denies that ninja in the form of "regular samurai performing espionage missions" existed; it's the "separate" clans of "ninja" that focused solely on training in "ninjutsu" and hiring themselves out like mercenaries that is highly suspect.

And the sad part is: We will never know if Artefact was being ironic (like usual), or serious.

I dunno. I read the manga and I give it like a C-. The plot has been doing irrational backflips for a while; it started out with, gasp! Stereotypes! However, the main characters started to overcome their adversities. Sakura accepted her weakness, Naruto overcame his anxiety, and Sasuke started letting people into his life.

Now, flip ahead a bunch of chapters. Sasuke hates everyone again for no apparent reason, Sakura has gone back to being totally useless and devoid of any character, and Naruto can't stop b'awwing long enough to move on with his life.

Skip ahead a ton more chapters and we have a ton of DEM, crappy fight scenes and general bullcrap.

Narudoh is a good manga the only thing wrong with it would be the anime. The filler are rather toxicating, not the greatest plot but still interesting with time to time awesome battles.Read the manga rather than watching the anime.

    I read it and couldn't get past the first chapter. (Like Negima?!) The drawing style is pretty bad, and it seems to go on and on forever. >.>;;

And, ninja's do not wear bright colours.

The retarded fans aren't the reason why people don't appreciate the drawing style and plot. I don't see how anyone can hate the drawing style because of the fans, but IMO the drawing style was better in the early chapters. People don't appreciate the plot because it's a bad plot. It's not a good and entertaining series, it's an OK series that had potential but got ruined by bad writing.

The plot probably got lost in translation, because from what I read it's pretty good.

And why can't ninjas wear bright colors?
It's just bias and hollywood brainwashing.

It's kind of difficult to sneak around and assasinate people when you stick out like a sore thumb. Back in the Edo period, they wore the same sort of clothing other people wore, especially japanese peasantry. Naruto is the first show I've seen where ninja were depicted as having dressed like electrical workers.

Fine work indeed. And I have to agree with ash_ka_chan. Infact no I don't like the drawing style is too mixy it's not old nor new and it changed too much, it looks like the author is only doing the characters and the assistants are doing the rest.

And no the plot was interesting. WAS, now it's just a mess, sorry it has some things interesting but lack of any depth in the plot at all.

Modern day? I have to disagree, it's like modern day mixed with uhh isolation? I mean it's like China when they closed themselves off from the world. it completely matches the drawing style which I dislike. I rather old style ninja like Basilisk where the powers are just as absurd but it has depth.

Well dont you see lots of electrical workers working out on the streets fixing telephone wires, cables, etc, etc

As far as I can see Naruto is a modern day ninja, no one is stupid enough to think a kid in a orange jump suit could be a deadly assassin :P

Naruto is fine in my opinion. The story is constantly moving along and the plot is going somewhere. It aint perfect but still pretty interesting really. I hate the anime because I think a fair bit of hate is due to that. The nature of it being a long running series means there are tons of fillers and most of that are shit.

I can't say the same for Bleach though. Started off quite well but now it is just... sad. I call it posing and bleeding manga. 5 pages of actual stuff happening and lots of standing around and posing... with blood running down. Yeah, intriguing stuff -_-

Yea, i fukken love HxH too but the extreme number of texts and explaination is simply a turn off.. No need to mention that the recent chapters have unecessary blocks of texts floating around panels what which makes HxH look like a light novel instead of a manga.

The unexpected twists saved it all though.
